Chapter 546: 530 raised by a mother without a father’s support

The door slowly opened, and time stood still as if frozen in eternity. The daylight streaming through the hospital room spilled into the dim corridor.

Hua Jun squinted uncomfortably and wanted to raise her hand to shield her eyes.

The blinding halo gradually dispersed, and the figure became clear. The same sharp eyebrows, dark eyes, high nose, thin lips, and chiseled features.

Suddenly, her pupils contracted, and her heartbeat drummed as if it wanted to leap out of her chest.

She murmured in a trembling voice, "Ye Jiang?"

"Hmm?" A deep, familiar voice responded to her.

Hua Jun’s eyes warmed, and tears streamed down uncontrollably.

Early the next morning, Ye Binyi directly took Meng Shuyan to the cultural palace without informing Tian Sangsang.

They rode in the driver’s car, and upon arrival, Ye Binyi carried Meng Shuyan out of the car.

Today, Meng Shuyan was dressed impeccably.

His curly hair, sharp brows and starry eyes, vibrant lips, and pearly white teeth made him unbelievably adorable. Especially since his outfit was brand new—a clean light blue top paired with small black pants, personally chosen and dressed by Ye Binyi.

Meng Shuyan furrowed his little brows, wanting to get out of the car on his own, but his grandmother insisted on carrying him.

He was already four years old, wasn’t he?

To Ye Binyi, her grandson was fair-skinned, soft, and cuddly—no amount of holding was ever enough.

Like a tiny sweetheart, or a little quilted jacket keeping her heart warm.

She took a bag from the car, tucked it into his backpack, and lovingly instructed, "Yanyan, this is what Grandma prepared for you. There’s a bottle of milk, a boiled egg, and a small bread roll. Eat it when you’re hungry."

Meng Shuyan blinked blankly and nodded. He wasn’t a mom, nor was he pregnant, so how was he supposed to eat all of this? He’d just eaten breakfast; eating more might make his belly grow into a little sister!

"Alright, bye, Grandma." The little guy turned back every few steps, waving softly.

All morning, Meng Shuyan seemed a bit out of sorts. He was reminded of last night at Grandma’s house, where she kept asking him strange questions. Questions like whether his mom gave him food at home, what kind of food, and what she and Chun Zisu usually did together?

The confusion lingered. Lately, his mom, grandma, and Chun Zisu had been incredibly nice to him—so nice, it started to make him uneasy. Not that they’d been unkind before, but something about this warmth felt... off.

The bottle of milk was finished in the morning. Even though Meng Shuyan only wanted a couple of sips, he hated wasting food, so he drank it all because he had to save it.

After school, a kid stood in Meng Shuyan’s way.

"Jiang Shuyan, why hasn’t your dad come to pick you up today?"

He thought Zhao Chun was his dad.

This kid was stocky and called Qiangqiang. He was four years older than Meng Shuyan and a head taller. He practiced Taekwondo next door and often enjoyed troubling Meng Shuyan. The more Meng Shuyan ignored him, the more persistent he became.

Sometimes, Qiangqiang even used his size to bully the younger boy, though Meng Shuyan always managed to find a way to escape.

Meng Shuyan’s face remained expressionless. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Qiangqiang, who are you talking to?" A delicate female voice sounded as Jia Wenxiu walked gracefully over.

Qiangqiang turned and saw his newly introduced aunt, courtesy of his dad.

Auntie Jia treated him really well and bought him anything he wanted.

Feeling wronged, Qiangqiang complained, "Auntie, this guy won’t pay any attention to me."

Meng Shuyan glanced at them, kept his little face serious, tightened his grip on his backpack straps, and quietly moved forward on his short legs.

Jia Wenxiu pulled Qiangqiang to her side and sneered:

"Who do you think you are, and who does he think he is? Don’t play with him; he’s just a stray mutt."

Qiangqiang was confused, "What’s a stray mutt?"

"It means born of a bitch," she replied.

"Not a person."

"Has a mother but no father to raise him."

"Isn’t worth anything."

"He’ll end up a little beggar someday."

Jia Wenxiu spat out these cruel remarks one after another.

Meng Shuyan stopped in his tracks and turned his head slightly, calmly asking, "Who are you talking about?"

Jia Wenxiu snorted, "Who else but you?"

Meng Shuyan gave her a cold glare. "I have a dad." This woman was vile.

Jia Wenxiu smirked proudly and jeered in a tone as if speaking to a peer, "You do have a dad, but your dad is already dead."

"You don’t have a dad."

"Your mom is about to run off with someone else. Nobody wants you anymore."

"From now on, you’re just a little stray no one wants."

"Not even fit to carry Qiangqiang’s shoes."

Meng Shuyan’s eyes widened. "You’re lying."

Jia Wenxiu laughed. "Why would I lie to you? Don’t you already know?"

"Your dad has been dead for a long time. Otherwise, why hasn’t he come back yet?"

"Don’t believe me? Go ask your mom!"

Meng Shuyan pressed his lips tightly together, tears shimmering in his eyes, as he lowered his head in silence.

Recalling the strange changes recently, the sensitive little boy couldn’t help but sense something was wrong.

Frustrated from issues with her parents, Ji Wenxiu took this chance to vent her anger on him. She didn’t care if this counted as bullying a child. Once her goal was achieved, she beamed at Qiangqiang, saying, "Qiangqiang, wait here while Auntie talks to your teacher."

Qiangqiang wasn’t paying attention to her and nodded carelessly.

"Stray mutt Jiang Shuyan."

Qiangqiang clapped his hands and grinned as he looked at the younger boy.

"No wonder you look like a little girl."

"Actually, no, more like a doll."

"An imported one, huh?"

"Turns out you aren’t even human."

"You’re a tiny stray mutt."

The more he looked, the cuter he found him. Qiangqiang reached out with a little hand, trying to poke him on the cheek.

To see if it was made of tofu—would it feel as soft as dog fur?

Qiangqiang was taller than Meng Shuyan, and his finger reached downward. But just as Meng Shuyan angrily tilted his head upward, he didn’t notice Qiangqiang’s hand already outstretched. Their positioning mismatched, and Qiangqiang’s finger accidentally poked into Meng Shuyan’s eye.

A sharp pain shot through the little boy, and he let out an anguished wail.

Qiangqiang was startled and quickly withdrew his hand, stepping back nervously.

No matter how strong, a four-year-old was still a small child. Pain overwhelmed Meng Shuyan, and his right eye couldn’t even open. He burst into heart-wrenching sobs as tears streamed helplessly from his closed eyelid.

At just the right moment, Tian Sangsang and Zhao Chun, who had come together to pick him up, rushed over upon hearing his cries.

Meng Shuyan’s entire right eye was red, and tears flowed in a torrent.

Zhao Chun crouched down and looked at his eye with concern. "Yanyan?"

His eyelashes were wet, and his little face was streaked with tears.

The little boy opened his other eye weakly and murmured softly, "Chun Zisu."

"Let me check it. Does it hurt? Can you open your eye?" Zhao Chun gently held his small chin.

Meng Shuyan whimpered, "It hurts. Mommy."

Tian Sangsang glanced at it, and her heart nearly broke.

The single word "hurts" from her son felt like a knife stabbing into her chest.

She glared furiously at the other child on the scene. "What’s going on here?!"

From a distance, they’d seen the two kids tugging at each other, but as they approached, their son suddenly broke into tears.

Qiangqiang stammered nervously, "I accidentally poked his eye. I didn’t mean to~~~"
