Chapter 515: The mother-in-law checks up again, a virtuous husband should be like this

Jia Wenxiu’s face turned pale, then she forced a smile and said, "Li Yibai is nothing but a fraud living off an empty reputation. I was deceived by him too. Who doesn’t have moments of youthful ignorance? Don’t you agree, Sis?"

"Actually, you’re not that young anymore." Tian Sangsang teased, glancing at her, "Young people wouldn’t dress up so... uh, seductively charming like you."

Jia Wenxiu replied, "It’s precisely because I was deceived that I changed my style. I’m bidding farewell to my past. Sis, now that you’re pregnant and have gained some weight, you definitely shouldn’t dress like me. Be careful not to squeeze your belly too much."

This was her way of indirectly calling Sangsang’s waist a barrel! Tian Sangsang curled her lips, "Pregnant women indeed shouldn’t dress so provocatively. Since Miss Jia is saying goodbye to the past, then don’t go looking for your foster brother and foster mother anymore. Why not simply turn around gracefully and bravely strike out on your own? Ultimately, life is a personal journey; relying on others is no match for relying on yourself!"

Tian Sangsang found it somewhat amusing. Why bother with verbal sparring here? The struggles between women—her current narrow-mindedness—really made her unwilling to back down, even if this rivalry felt utterly senseless.

Who told Jia Wenxiu to flaunt her tiny waist in front of her? And even plan to sway that little waist to seduce her husband? How about flying to the heavens? She wasn’t even worried about twisting her delicate waist and breaking it!

When it came to banter, Jia Wenxiu was truly no match for Tian Sangsang.

Her eyes widened, her chest heaving heavily, her curves utterly apparent.

Tian Sangsang waved her hand cheerfully, "Miss Jia, don’t look at me like that. I’m a married woman, and already a mother. No matter how sentimentally you gaze at me or how alluringly dressed you appear in front of me, I could never be interested in you. I like men; I’m not into women."

Jiang Jinghuai hadn’t intended to interject, but now, hearing this, his brows twitched forcefully. Women? Surely she didn’t mean what he thought? Be careful not to mess up the baby’s reception of this nonsense.

"Sangsang, time to go home." He gently yet firmly turned her shoulders, "Standing here doesn’t tire you?"

With her mood lightened, Tian Sangsang took her son’s hand and turned to leave.

"Brother!" Jia Wenxiu shouted behind them, "After all these years of being siblings, even if I made mistakes in the past, I’m truly remorseful now. Won’t you give me just one chance?"

"How I wish we could go back to our childhood!"

Hearing such words, Tian Sangsang couldn’t help but feel Jia Wenxiu was delusional on Jiang Jinghuai’s behalf.

Jiang Jinghuai’s face remained cold; his deep-set eyes carried no emotion: "I would’ve preferred if our family raised a dog back then instead. At least a dog has more humanity."

Jia Wenxiu visibly trembled, unwilling to concede as she said, "Sis, then I want to talk to you about something! Can we find a different place to chat?!" If her brother wouldn’t work, maybe his wife would!

Who on earth would go to another place to talk to her!

Tian Sangsang didn’t even turn her head, nor did she answer.

Jia Wenxiu thought she cared and continued, raising her voice, "This matter concerns you, concerns my brother, concerns the Jiang Family. Don’t you want to know?!"

Clearly not well. Tian Sangsang turned her head indifferently, word by word: "I don’t want to know."

Jia Wenxiu instantly crumbled, grinding her teeth as she stood in place.

Just wait—she’d make them all regret this!

Tian Sangsang was exhausted. Turning her head, she asked Jiang Jinghuai, "How did you tolerate her all these years?"

Jiang Jinghuai replied, "She used to be quite okay, not like this."

"Looks like she turned out all wrong." Tian Sangsang sighed, "It’s all about personal choice; no one else can be blamed." Determined, she resolved to properly educate her children in the future—she couldn’t let them grow crooked. Appearance missteps weren’t terrifying; a warped character was.

Back home, Tian Sangsang tidied up the items she bought today while Jiang Jinghuai carried Meng Shuyan upstairs, placing him on the bed in the bedroom and covering him with a thin blanket. The little one treated this as his afternoon nap and showed no signs of waking.

Jiang Jinghuai went back downstairs to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

Just as Ye Binyi and Aunt arrived.

"Aunt, what brings you here?" Tian Sangsang was quite surprised, showing a smile, "Come in, please."

"It’s so hot today, let me pour you some water."

Aunt placed the gift she was carrying on the sofa, looked at Tian Sangsang’s pregnant belly, and said, "No need, take care of yourself. We’ll stand for a bit and say what we came for, then leave." Aunt had heard about the young couple moving out to live on their own and supported the decision. It was better this way; living under different roofs meant fewer conflicts.

Still, Tian Sangsang poured the water and handed it to her, "What’s the matter? Please sit down and talk."

Aunt took a sip of water, "Tomorrow’s the Mid-Autumn Festival. Your uncle would like your family to come over for a gathering. The second and third families will be there too, so we could all have a reunion dinner."

"Sure." After a moment’s hesitation, Tian Sangsang smiled as she agreed.

From the moment she entered, Ye Binyi had quietly taken in the entire living room.

She hadn’t wanted to come ask in person. As the one managing household affairs, she would usually decide directly. Yet Aunt had insisted on coming to ask, making it seem as if the master of the house was her daughter-in-law.

"Where are Yanyan and Jinghuai?" she asked aloud.

Tian Sangsang replied calmly, "Yanyan is upstairs napping, Jinghuai..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Jiang Jinghuai walked out of the kitchen upon hearing voices. He was wearing a dark apron wrapped around his lean waist, paired with his striking features and sternly handsome face, which made for an oddly amusing sight.

Aunt smiled knowingly.

Jiang Jinghuai’s lips twitched; his reputation for being domestically capable might now spread to the extended family.

Ye Binyi frowned, "Jinghuai, what’s with this outfit?"

"Mom, Aunt. Please sit with Sangsang first."

Undeterred, Jiang Jinghuai spoke warmly, "Stay for lunch."

Ye Binyi shot an annoyed glance at Tian Sangsang before briskly heading to the kitchen, inspecting him thoroughly.

"Son, what are you doing? Step aside and let Mom take over!"

"Mom, I’ve never cooked for you before." Jiang Jinghuai swung the spatula, "Today, I’m the chef."

"It’s enough that you think about it!" Ye Binyi said sharply, "You’re a man made for greater things, not the kitchen! Is this where you belong?" She felt incredibly pained. Her wonderful son had been turned into this!

"Mom, don’t overthink it. Sangsang is heavily pregnant—I cook so she doesn’t get tired."

"It’s because of you spoiling her. Watch out, you’ll spoil her entirely!"

Jiang Jinghuai avoided further argument, smoothly changing the subject: "I’m not home often. It’s rare I get to do this."

They didn’t end up staying for lunch. Aunt didn’t want to impose, and Ye Binyi feared she might get so upset she risked her health. On the way home, Ye Binyi kept venting to Aunt: "Look around Beijing—among families like ours, how many daughters-in-law are like mine? My son is busy cooking in the kitchen while she enjoys herself in the living room. Who uses their husband like this? Pregnant women act like they’re worth their weight in gold, but she won’t even step into the kitchen! I’ve never seen a pregnant woman like her!"

Aunt chuckled, "That’s why Jinghuai is such a rare find. You should be happy."

Ye Binyi pursed her lips.

She thought to herself, this is about marrying a wife, not giving her son away. What’s there to be happy about him being treated like a servant?!
