Chapter 514: 498 Wenxiu indulges in delusions of a sibling romance

Meng Shuyan fluttered his big eyes, then sat on Jiang Jinghuai’s lap, slowly holding the large bowl. He took a sip of the beef noodle soup, and then a few more gulps. Slurp, slurp, the little guy seemed a bit thirsty.

The ice cream from earlier had melted after only a few bites.

Truth be told, in summer, normal people don’t have much appetite for anything and just want to be idle watermelon eaters. The little guy was no different; after enjoying a taste of the soup and nibbling a piece of beef, he stayed quiet.

Of course, Tian Sangsang was not a "normal person." She was pregnant now, so she had a very healthy appetite.

Jiang Jinghuai didn’t even touch the noodles, his gaze fixed on the door, lost in some unknown thought.

Tian Sangsang paused for a moment, then pouted indignantly. She suddenly noticed that every woman in the noodle shop was staring at her husband. All of them had that dreamy, infatuated look. Judging by Jiang Jinghuai’s expression, it was obvious he might’ve been enchanted by one of the shop’s little demons and tried to mask his embarrassment by staring out the door.

Who? Who was it!

Tian Sangsang swept her gaze over everyone sharply, her eyes glinting faintly with a hint of murderous intent.

Under the scrutiny of the rightful wife, those women quickly averted their gaze in embarrassment.

None of them had better attributes than her—or maybe it was fairer to say all of them had better attributes than her. Their faces were slimmer, their stomachs flat, and their figures quite enviable.

Tian Sangsang put down her chopsticks, feeling annoyed. She stared at Jiang Jinghuai for a while, but the guy just kept looking out the door, completely oblivious to the sharp, knife-like glare she was throwing at him.

"Yanyan, call over your distracted, daydreaming, emotionally stirred father," Tian Sangsang muttered, her lips pursed, almost crossing her legs in her irritation.

Meng Shuyan pursed his little lips and shifted in Jiang Jinghuai’s arms. Looking up, he called out softly and sweetly, "Daddy."

"Hmm?" Jiang Jinghuai seemed to snap out of it, leaning down to inquire.

"Daddy."

Facing his mom’s predatory-like gaze, Meng Shuyan explained, "Mommy says you should eat your noodles and stop sneaking peeks at the pretty big sisters or handsome big brothers outside~."

Pretty big brothers? Big sisters? What kind of terms were those?

Well, well. Tian Sangsang snorted coldly, lowering her head to eat a piece of beef, knowing full well her man was pretending to be innocent.

Jiang Jinghuai looked puzzled, then suddenly understood. He glanced at Tian Sangsang, who had bowed her head, and sighed helplessly, realizing she was overthinking things again.

Raising his distinct sword-like eyebrows, he sighed lightly and explained, "When we left earlier, someone started following us. I’ve been waiting here to see if they’d make a move, but so far, there’s been nothing."

"You’re saying someone’s following us?" Tian Sangsang was momentarily startled, losing both her appetite and her trivial suspicions. So, it turned out he wasn’t mentally straying after all.

Jiang Jinghuai said helplessly, "Yes."

"How dangerous is that person?" Tian Sangsang asked. "Is it a criminal, a martial artist, or just an ordinary person? What’s their motive?"

Jiang Jinghuai, used to her odd phrasing, shrugged. "Zero danger level."

Tian Sangsang: "..." Zero danger level and still dare to tail us? Hah, wait till this grandma teaches them a lesson.

Having Jiang Jinghuai by her side gave her unshakable confidence.

"Alright then, let’s pay and confront them. If the mountain won’t come to me, I’ll go to the mountain myself," she said cheerfully. "My danger level is way higher than theirs."

"Don’t cause trouble," Jiang Jinghuai frowned slightly and said flatly, "Your danger level is negative."

Tian Sangsang: "...!!!"

Jiang Jinghuai paid the bill and carried Meng Shuyan out. Meng Shuyan was now brimming with curiosity about the stalker and insisted on walking himself, worried that staying in his dad’s arms would tire him out.

As they exited the noodle shop, Tian Sangsang glanced to the side. Spotting the person awkwardly shifting before resuming their composure, she shivered—it was her.

Talk about the mountain coming to her. And yet, what arrived wasn’t a mountain—it was an utterly nauseating pile of something rotten.

Last time Tian Sangsang had seen Jia Wenxiu, she could still muster some curiosity. This time, she wasn’t even remotely interested.

But it had only been a few days—how time changes feelings.

With Li Yibai’s downfall, Jia Wenxiu was no longer the same person.

So why had she come? What did she want?

"Brother," Jia Wenxiu completely ignored Tian Sangsang and Meng Shuyan, focusing her attention solely on Jiang Jinghuai with an intensity that seemed fueled by desperation.

Tian Sangsang’s expression shifted. What was with the way she was looking at her husband? Did she intend to spark some sordid sibling romance here? Narrowing her eyes further, she noticed that Ji Wenxiu had dressed to impress. Her usual sweet style had been swapped for a sharper, businesslike aesthetic since becoming a journalist.

Her hair was curled—not in large waves, but in soft, layered curls.

She was wearing a black bodycon skirt paired with a short white blouse. She had both the figure and the looks, topped off with the spritz of perfume.

But the perfume’s scent...

Tian Sangsang rubbed her itchy nose and distanced herself a little.

Jiang Jinghuai had no interest in exchanging words with Jia Wenxiu. He frowned deeply and said to Tian Sangsang, "Let’s go home."

Jia Wenxiu’s expression shifted, but after being rejected and ignored countless times, she had grown shamelessly thick-skinned. She put on a cautious yet sweet smile and said, "Brother, may I visit Mom at home?"

As she spoke, she even subtly thrust out her shapely chest.

Jiang Jinghuai remained silent, neither responding nor sparing her a glance, his lips tightly pressed.

Meng Shuyan sulked, his pout so exaggerated it could practically hang a lantern.

Tian Sangsang grew irritated. Was Jia Wenxiu unaware that her blouse’s buttons were about to pop off?

Eyeing her provocative outfit, Tian Sangsang smirked sarcastically and said, "Miss Jia, if you want to visit my husband’s mother, you’re free to go anytime. Why would you need to ask my husband? Isn’t that unnecessary?"

Jia Wenxiu laughed awkwardly and replied, "I did some things that upset Mom, and you’re aware of them, Sister-in-law."

Deep down, Jia Wenxiu wanted to return to the Jiang Family. They were her last lifeline. She had tried earlier but hadn’t even been allowed through the door. She deeply regretted her earlier stubbornness; if only she had left herself some leeway back then, things wouldn’t be so dire now. It was the folly of her youth—she hadn’t understood compromise, hadn’t yet faced the harsh competitiveness of the working world.

Which was why she thought of Jiang Jinghuai. Military men were full of passion and vigor. Now that Tian Sangsang was pregnant, there was surely no way she could fully satisfy her brother. Without blood ties between them, who knew—perhaps there was a chance to make something happen? Looking at it through a "brother-sister" lens, she knew her brother was disappointed in her; but from a "man-woman" perspective, the spark was still possible.

Tian Sangsang, seeing her shameless flirting, felt nauseous. How was her brain wired? If she wanted a man, there were plenty out there. Why aim for hers? It irritated her to no end.

She didn’t plan to be polite about it.

Fortunately, Jiang Jinghuai remained steadfast and ignored her entirely. Otherwise, Tian Sangsang would’ve slapped her long ago. Was this woman out of her mind, even shamelessly coming onto her own brother?

"Jinghuai won’t help you anyway," Tian Sangsang sighed theatrically, letting her gaze glide playfully. "You should look for Mr. Li Yibai instead. He’s such a talented scholar, with his amazing eloquence—he’s even been featured in the papers, such a celebrated figure. He might be able to help you fulfill your wish!"
