Reborn as the Villain's Wife, I Shine in 80s-Chapter 487: Super cute 471
On the large high-definition screen in the center of the restaurant, an advertisement was playing. Xia Danhui was holding a luxury women’s perfume as its endorser.
Sangsang picked up a napkin to wipe her mouth, lowered her eyes in silence for a moment, then cautiously looked at Xu Zhenxing’s expression. "Dad, Mom... what kind of person is she?"
Xu Zhenxing stiffened. "Sangsang, are you missing your mom?"
"My impression of Mom is really vague... I haven’t seen her since I was very young. I..." Sangsang often saw Xia Danhui on TV, but in reality, she hadn’t seen her in over a decade. Sometimes she wondered, was that glamorous woman really her mom? She was an outstanding actress, but she...
Xu Zhenxing took a sip of the drink on the table and said, "Your mom has a break next month in the middle of the month. She’ll come home to stay for a while."
"Really?" Sangsang’s voice carried an excitement even she didn’t notice.
Xu Zhenxing nodded. "Yes, I’ve kept in contact with her. I even chatted with her over text yesterday. She knows you got into University A and told me she won’t be busy next month, so she’ll come back home."
Sangsang pressed her lips together, staying silent. Her heart was both elated and uneasy. Was she really going to see Xia Danhui?
After the university acceptance cutoffs were released, Tian Sangsang applied to the Foreign Language Department at University A. To be safe, she also applied to a few other schools. Now, all that remained was to await the admission notice. During the summer holidays, many classmates, bored at home, went out to find part-time jobs. Sangsang, after getting Xu Zhenxing’s permission, also found one through his introductions.
Qingxiu was quite satisfied with the part-time job, which perfectly matched her...
Zhong Shuyun returned from buying groceries, carrying a supermarket bag filled with various household items, vegetables, and meats. The face of a young lady walking toward her gradually came into view. That young lady was stunning, in the prime of her youth. She had shed the immaturity of her younger years, now exuding a unique blend of purity and allure characteristic of her age. Her features were exquisite, her skin alabaster, and the most captivating aspect was her pair of dark ebony eyes, which could make anyone feel as though they were gazing at rare, precious gemstones.
"Sangsang!" Zhong Shuyun called out.
Sangsang looked up in surprise and delight, skipping over in excitement. "Auntie Zhong."
Zhong Shuyun beamed warmly, studying her kindly for a moment. "You’re finally back. Didn’t your dad come back with you? Auntie heard your college entrance exam results were out—did you get in?"
"Yes," Sangsang nodded. "I got in. Dad’s at home doing experiments. I came back to pack some things to take back, and to visit you, Auntie."
Zhong Shuyun sighed, a bit disgruntled. "Your dad is always so busy, constantly working on those experiments of his without a care for his health. It’s truly worrisome."
Only you, Auntie Zhong, would care about him.
Sangsang didn’t say this aloud. She pressed her lips together and smiled affectionately. "Don’t worry, Auntie. I’m keeping an eye on him. But you should look after yourself, too. Be careful when you go to the supermarket, and try to come home early in the evenings. Didn’t the news say that walking at night is risky? You never know what might happen."
Zhong Shuyun put her hands on her hips. "An old woman like me has nothing to fear. You young girls are the ones who need to be careful, got it?"
Sangsang nodded quickly. "I got it. But Auntie, you still look so young—how could you call yourself old?"
That remark made Zhong Shuyun laugh for a while. She said, "If you need help packing, Auntie can help you."
"No need," Sangsang said hastily. "It’s just a few things. I can handle it myself."
"Alright then," Zhong Shuyun didn’t insist. She raised the bag in her hand. "I made some buns today, and later I’ll make dumplings. Once you’re done, come by my place and take some back for your dad."
"Alright, thank you, Auntie Zhong!" Sangsang didn’t refuse.
She had known Auntie Zhong for a long time. Auntie Zhong used to be neighbors with her dad. Not only that, but it was said that the two had grown up together as childhood friends, attending school together. However, Auntie Zhong’s family encountered difficulties back then and couldn’t afford to send her to college. Later, she stayed to look after the family’s convenience store.
Auntie Zhong wasn’t a particularly beautiful woman, but her fair, plump appearance gave her a look of good fortune, as the elders would say—a quality suited to bearing children. Unfortunately, her marriage was unhappy. Her husband passed away early, leaving her without children. Auntie Zhong never remarried and had lived alone all these years. She had built a decent life for herself, saving up to open a supermarket. She kept a peaceful life, staffing it when she didn’t feel like managing it herself.
Auntie Zhong was especially attentive to their family. When Sangsang was little and lacked a mother’s care, Auntie Zhong filled that role halfway, always looking after her and showing concern. She was just as thoughtful toward her father. If Sangsang harbored anticipation and longing for Xia Danhui, then the affection and dependency she felt toward Auntie Zhong were completely genuine.
This neighborhood was an old district, and the buildings were rather dated. Tian Sangsang took a rusty key from her pocket and opened the padlock on the chain. The room from her childhood through high school days was square and cramped, with only a bed, a wardrobe, and a desk, leaving just enough space for two people to move around. Yet, it was filled with all the memories of Tian Sangsang’s youth.
Sangsang sorted her old clothes, intending to find a time to donate them to impoverished areas. As for the old textbooks she no longer needed, she packed them into a box. Some foreign language books she had bought before were still like new and could still be useful, so she set them aside on the desk to take with her. Her home had a shared study for Qingxiu and Xu Zhenxing that hadn’t been properly packed when they rushed to move.
The navy-blue bookshelf was very old, with ten tall shelves. Spider webs filled the corners, and dust covered the pages of the books.
On the fourth shelf, Sangsang selected a few books to take with her: one was Diana Gabaldon’s *Outlander*, another was Thomas Kenneally’s *Schindler’s List*, yet another was George R. R. Martin’s *Game of Thrones*, and there was also the *Harry Potter* series she had once loved.
On the top shelf was a book titled *Night Banquet*. It was too high. Sangsang tiptoed, stretching her fingers to reach it. Her slender fingers brushed against the book. Gritting her teeth, she managed to pull it down, and a photograph fell to the floor.
"Huh?" Sangsang crouched slightly, picking up the photo.
It was an old photograph, its edges yellowed with age. It showed a man and a woman leaning against each other. The man was refined, the woman gentle, both dressed in the blue-and-white school uniforms of that era, giving them an air of youthful innocence and ardor. Their young faces bore smiles, and their eyes sparkled with harmony. The man in the photograph was her father, Xu Zhenxing, but the woman wasn’t her mother, Xia Danhui. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Who is this woman? Why is she so close to Dad?" Sangsang couldn’t help but voice the question clouding her mind. They even appeared together in a single photo, looking so young. Anyone seeing this for the first time would think they were a couple—but why? Sangsang’s first impression was exactly that.
