Chapter 56: A sacrifice.

Once he was close to the woman, he monitored her for a while.

Oh, how gorgeous she was.

If he didn’t know better, he could easily mistake her for a giant doll.

Despite being stuck in this tunnel for years and losing all her body fat, her beauty still remained.

Admittedly, she looked nothing like he expected.

Still, this was a good time to finally free her from her bondage.

’I guess commanding her to wake up won’t work if her eyes are closed.’

And according to what his father told him, Layla fell into a deep sleep because both their star blessings caused a breakdown in her magic circuits, which then forced her into a permanent hibernation.

In order to wake her up, he would need to heal her magic circuit.

A feat that was considered impossible in this world.

’I guess there is no other option.’

Luckily, he had gained some karma points a while back; he was now eligible to purchase a divine blessing from the Karma shop.

Ding!

[Would you like to access the Karma shop?]

He stared at the screen for a while.

’Yes.’

Suddenly, his entire surroundings went dark, as though he were drifting through space.

Each star shone as brightly as it could.

To people on the outside, he was merely standing still.

Quickly, Sylus took notice of the three giant screens.

[Summons.]

[Weapons.]

[Divine blessings.]

With a single motion, he clicked on the divine blessing.

And as expected, he found himself floating inside a different location, where cards were flying all around, like coins in the deep ocean.

Soon after, something strange happened: multiple cards formed in front of him.

Their backs were facing him, so he couldn’t exactly see what was written on them.

Until...

[The system has sought out the divine blessing you seek.]

[The divine blessing of Eternal Healing.]

Description: Grants you the blessing to heal anything you touch, including yourself.

[Do you accept?]

’It knew what I was looking for before I could speak, just like last time.’

That was quite impressive.

’Yes.’

[Request confirmed.]

[You have chosen the divine blessing, Eternal Healing.]

Mana flowed around him like fluid, coating the single card and slowly pushing it toward Sylus’s chest.

Making contact, it slowly entered, incorporating with Sylus’s body, until eventually, it was gone.

The world around him faded, and he was back in the cave, standing in the very same position.

His eyes automatically fell on Layla.

’Okay.’

He clenched his fist.

Now that he had the divine blessing, all he would have to do was touch her, and that should repair her magic circuits easily.

Sylus could already feel himself losing his footing, his eyes blurry and scarcely able to make sense of his surroundings.

The reason for this was that his father’s star blessing allowed him to make commands just like Martin would. But since it was only a copy, that also meant a downgrade.

Unlike his father, who could use it as many times as he wanted, Sylus could only use it once, on a single person.

As such, he needed to make an order that would last longer.

An order such as "Obey me" would drain a large amount of mana from his body.

It’s a miracle that he was still standing.

Shaking his head, Sylus managed to snap himself back to reality.

He played it pretty cool, so no one suspected a thing.

’Hopefully, this works...’

Gently, he placed one hand on the sleeping woman’s stomach, and then—

[You have activated the divine blessing, Eternal Healing.]

Bright white light radiated from under his touch and was growing even brighter as the light began to envelop the woman’s body.

Everyone standing behind him was in awe; Sylus was truly going to revive her.

Martin could barely believe his eyes.

Slowly but surely, the entire cave was swallowed in the growing light.

Poof!

Everything unexpectedly went back to normal.

But that wasn’t all.

"Sylus!!!"

They all shouted together, worry inscribed on their faces.

Sylus was missing; he was no longer in the cave.

And it would seem even the woman herself was gone as well.

Zani flung the king to the side and ran into the cave, her eyes scanning the entire place in hopes of knowing where he went.

At the back, Elizabeth was interrogating Martin, pressuring him to tell her where Sylus went.

Of course, even he didn’t know.

With time, Zani moved to where Sylus had stood, her hands skimming the air, as though she could feel him standing there.

"My... lord..."

She whispered.

Yes, she could sense he was right there.

Far from her touch, but still there.

There was nothing she could do. As long as she could tell he was alive, she didn’t mind waiting as long as it would take.

And so she did, her eyes closed, resting her head on the air that could have easily been Sylus’s shoulder.

...

Meanwhile.

’What? Where am I?’

He found himself standing in the middle of nowhere. The ground was covered in white fog, and the sky had red glowing strings falling down from it.

Before they got to the ground, they would form into tiny red insects, flying around the open area and making eerie humming noises.

What really caught Sylus’s attention was what he saw right after.

A birdcage.

No, a giant birdcage.

And inside this cage was a woman with long purple hair scattered on the ground.

She had her hands tied up to the metal back, her entire face hidden under her hair, but he could still tell who she was.

"Layla?" he called out.

There was a long, deep silence.

Only then broken by the system’s notification.

[You have successfully woken the first queen, Layla.]

Another screen popped up.

[The stars are enraged.]

’What?’

[Two people cannot exist bearing the same Star of Catalyst.]

[That is a breach of contract.]

Sylus frowned with confusion.

"What? It falls under the same divinity. What do you mean by that?!"

[The world cannot have two people with the same Catalyst Star.]

[Would you like to sacrifice yourself?]

Yes or No.

...
