Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty.-Chapter 43: Dying angels.
Chapter 43: Dying angels.
From within the forest’s depths, strange creatures emerged—tall, unsettling forms that moved with unnatural grace.
They clicked their jaws in rapid, grinding rhythms, like teeth gnashing against bone, the sound echoing through the trees like a warning drum.
Their bodies were woven from pure shadow, indistinct and shifting, yet their eyes burned with a piercing, icy blue—unblinking and far too aware.
To meet their gaze was to feel your very soul unravel.
Long, hooked claws—razor-sharp and gleaming—dug effortlessly into the trunks of nearby trees as they pulled their massive heads into view.
Despite their towering size, they did not walk upright. Instead, they crawled low, limbs coiled like spiders, dragging themselves across the forest floor with a predatory grace.
One by one, they slithered from the gloom, forming a slow, tightening circle around the two intruders who had dared to trespass in their domain.
Terrified at their ominous form, Zani took a couple of steps back, making sure she was as close to Sylus as possible.
These monsters were intelligent, intercepting every escape route and entrapping them in like sitting ducks.
The monsters observed them for a while, as if waiting to see what Sylus and Zani would do.
However, Sylus had a different expression from Zani.
He was calm, collected, and calculating.
Monitoring the monsters for a while as they were doing to him, he finally figured out what they were.
’Dying angels.’
Sylus had read about them in the Astrodail Roads—monsters that were able to trap their victims in a separate world and drain their mana until they were no longer alive.
Although the records described them as tall titans, they looked more like nightmares than anything.
Alas, they had one drawback.
As long as they didn’t hear your voice, they could not trap you in their domain.
This was why they were delaying—waiting for either Sylus or Zani to say something.
With one hand in his pocket, Sylus shifted his gaze from the angels to Zani.
<Zani, whatever you do, do not speak.>
Zani’s eyes dilated after hearing Sylus’s voice in her head, but she was quick to regain her composure.
<I found it weird that you hadn’t said anything. We are currently surrounded? If I were to fight them, you would get caught in the crossfire. I’ll try to kill the one before me —>>
<They can’t be killed in a normal way.>
Zani paused.
<What do you mean?>
Sylus took a second to observe the monsters once again, watching as they loomed closer.
By now, they were probably unaware of Sylus and Zani communicating.
<These monsters can’t be killed. They are immortal.>
He continued,
<That said, there is a way to keep them down for a long time. On their back is a small opening; if you can manage to deal a great deal of damage to them there, they will enter a safe mode and cannot be woken up unless touched by another living being.>
<Okay, please stand clear, my lord; I’ll handle the rest.>
Beaming, Sylus pushed his hand to the side.
<You don’t need to worry; I’ll be joining you in battle.>
A small portal unfurled next to Sylus, and the hilt of a purple dagger slid out.
He then grabbed it, allowing the energy to swarm around his fist.
[You have equipped the Dagger of Stars.]
[You now have the ability to control purple sparks.]
Pivoting around with a tense look on her face, Zani opened her mouth, about to speak, but she quickly reflected.
<My lord, you shouldn’t exhaust yourself just yet.>
Sylus pointed the dagger behind Zani.
<It would seem they figured out we are speaking. Pay attention.>
As quickly as Sylus said that, he drew Zani towards him.
Like a bomb, one of the angel’s hands collided against the ground, where Zani had been a few seconds prior.
Sylus didn’t squander his opportunity; the monster was still on its knees, and its back was exposed.
He charged forward, stomping the finger of the monster as hard as he could.
"Ahhhh!"
It hollered, its voice clamorous and sad at the same time.
A single stomp from Sylus caused its entire hand to dig further into the ground.
Sylus didn’t stop there as he got on top of the monster after sprinting on its hand.
Once he had gotten to the back of the angel, he narrowed his hold around the dagger and summoned purple energy around his fist.
With a thunderous roar, he punctured the monster in the back, right in the open space located at the upper part of its back.
Ahhhhrghhh!
The monster screamed even louder, attracting the attention of the other angels.
Black liquid rushed out from the opening, part of it scattering on Sylus’s body.
As much as the monster was fighting to free itself, Sylus didn’t stop; he kept pouring more and more energy into the opening until eventually, the angel collapsed to the ground, defeated.
Sylus remained on the monster’s back, leaking with the black substance that was smeared all over his body.
As the purple energy cracked around him, he looked at Zani.
"Come on, we don’t have all day."
Noticing the monsters were already closing in on Sylus’s location, Zani had no choice but to attack.
With a single leap into the air, she kicked one of the monsters in the face, sending its head crashing against a tree.
At the same time, Sylus had charged to the side, heading to fight another angel.
While the monsters’ attacks were powerful, they meant nothing if they were not fast enough to catch up to Sylus’s and Zani’s speed.
In what seemed like forever, all the angels that were once glaring at the duo with their blue, eerie eyes now lay unconscious on the ground.
Right in their midst, Sylus and Zani sat on the ground, their bodies sticky from bathing in the black blood of the monsters.
Zani was resting against a tree, trying to catch her breath from the fight.
While Sylus was calm, his eyes focused on the screen before him.
[You have defeated the Dying Angels.]
[Your strength has increased.]
[Your agility has increased.]
[Your weapon proficiency has increased.]
Sylus wiped the black blood from his face.
’Good enough. Now to clean up.’
