Reborn as the Blissful Wife in the countryside-Chapter 13 - 0: Can’t Let Their Family Turn Over
Chapter 13: Chapter 013: Can't Let Their Family Turn Over
Father Luo led a dozen strong youths to block the way of Niu Erzhuang and Niu Sanzhuang.
Niu Erzhuang, seeing they were surrounded, swung a wooden stick at the villagers to keep them at bay, while threatening, "We are from Niutou Gully of the Niu Family. We have over two hundred clan members, and each of us can fight. Whoever dares to die, come catch us!"
Father Luo's face darkened. He grabbed the wooden stick swinging in Niu Erzhuang's hand, yanked it viciously, and after dragging Niu Erzhuang over, he kicked out sharply, flipping Niu Erzhuang over, then snatched the stick from his hand and swept it towards Niu Sanzhuang.
With a bang, Niu Sanzhuang was knocked to the ground.
"Catch him," Father Luo instructed the young men, while he himself twisted Niu Erzhuang's arms behind his back and pinned him to the ground.
The youths immediately came forward and captured Niu Sanzhuang, quickly subduing him.
Niu Dazhuang and Niu Xiaozhuang, ignoring their other siblings from the Niu Family, desperately ran towards the mountain's exterior.
Village Chief Gu's son, Gu Dafu, led the villagers in hot pursuit behind them, but the two ran too fast, and despite chasing for dozens of meters, they couldn't catch up.
Gu Jinli, having entered the mountain several times and familiar with the terrain, took Luo Huiniang on a shortcut to ambush. When Niu Dazhuang and Niu Xiaozhuang ran by, she struck Niu Dazhuang's lower leg hard with a wooden stick.
Bam!
Niu Dazhuang was hit, cried out, and tumbled forward, landing face down on the ground.
Gu Jinli jumped out of the bushes where she was hiding, grasped the wooden stick, and started beating Niu Dazhuang wildly.
Carrying the hatred of the original host who was killed by the Niu brothers, she showed no mercy, beating Niu Dazhuang until his head was bloody. Only when Gu Dafu and other villagers arrived did she stop.
Niu Xiaozhuang, being selfish, saw Niu Dazhuang down and didn't stop for a second, running madly towards the mountain's exterior.
"Stop!" Luo Huiniang chased determinedly after him and shouted.
Niu Xiaozhuang, raised alongside his brothers and also ruthless, saw Luo Huiniang catching up and with a large stone in hand, viciously threw it towards Luo Huiniang's head.
Luo Huiniang dodged narrowly, avoiding the stone that embedded sharply into the soil, which infuriated her even more. She picked up the stone and threw it at Niu Xiaozhuang's back.
"Ah." With a painful scream, Niu Xiaozhuang was struck down by the stone.
Luo Huiniang ran over, clenched her fist, and started beating Niu Xiaozhuang wildly: "For beating Xiao Yu, for stealing our grain, for taking our water, I will kill you bad sprouts!"
Niu Xiaozhuang, with a fierce glint in his eyes, resisted desperately, biting Luo Huiniang's wrist as she struck him. Although her wrist bled from the bite, she wrapped her arm around his neck to prevent his escape.
Moments later, the villagers arrived and together subdued Niu Xiaozhuang.
Niu Sizhuang was also caught by Luo Wu.
Gu Dafu instructed the villagers to tie up the five Niu brothers with straw ropes, escort them to the water source, and tie them to a dried tree.
Seeing the Niu brothers bloodied and beaten, Gu Jinli felt the turbidity in her heart release, and silently said to her original host, "Little girl Xiao Yu, I have avenged you."
Village Chief Gu, along with the rest of the villagers, arrived in haste, seeing the bloodied Niu brothers motionless, he was startled and anxiously asked, "Why aren't they moving? Don't let this turn into a manslaughter."
Father Luo replied, "Village chief, relax, they have just fainted, not dead."
Village Chief Gu sighed with relief, "It's good that they are not dead. After all, they are people of Niutou Gully with over two hundred clan members. If they had died, our village would face trouble."
What Village Chief Gu feared the most on the escape route from famine was conflicts with other disaster victims that could bring trouble to the village.
Although the Niu brothers committed many evils, they couldn't actually be killed.
Village Chief Gu looked at the sky and said to the villagers, "Go fetch water, fill it up, and then we need to keep moving."
"Alright," the villagers responded, leaving the Niu brothers aside, they returned to the water pit to fetch water.
The water in the pit was diminishing; after a quarter of an hour, they couldn't fetch any more.
Gu Dafu, with a mud-filled water pot, went to find Village Chief Gu and informed him about the depleted water.
Village Chief Gu, looking at the half a pot of mud, sighed and asked Gu Dafu, "Did everyone in the village get their water?"
Gu Dafu smiled and replied, "Everyone got it."
Those who fetched a lot filled their containers, and those with less also managed to get two pots of water, which was enough.
Village Chief Gu nodded while listening, then stood up and said to the villagers, "Pack your things, we need to continue on our journey and catch up with the refugees ahead before dark. We must not fall behind! There are refugees from three other prefectures chasing us from behind. If they catch up to us, we won't be able to keep anything!"
This drought affected all seven prefectures in the Northwest, with their Long'an Prefecture at the center. Ahead, there were refugees from three other prefectures fleeing the disaster, and behind them, refugees from another three prefectures were pursuing.
Refugees, desperate in survival, would band together to rob upon seeing unfamiliar faces.
The villagers, aware of the severity of refugees robbing, hastily packed their belongings and began to leave the mountains.
As for the five Niu brothers, as they were about to depart, Village Chief Gu had the villagers untie their ropes, so they could leave on their own after waking up.
Third Grandma had already gathered at the mountain pass with Mrs. Cui, Ms. Chu, Aunt Tian, and Old Mrs. Yan's daughters-in-law and children. Seeing the villagers emerge, she immediately picked up her belongings and followed.
Granny Gu, upon seeing Mrs. Cui, found an outlet for the anger she had been holding all morning. Banging her cane on the ground, she shouted, "Mrs. Cui, hurry over here and help this old lady!"
Mrs. Cui, hearing Granny Gu's voice, shuddered in fear.
Gu Jinli shouted, "Granny, isn't Gu Dagu currently supporting you? My mom was busy all night with dad digging for water, and she's really tired."
This was no exaggeration; the families involved in last night's water digging were all pale and displaying dark circles under their eyes.
Village Chief Gu initially didn't want to intervene in the Old Gu Family's matters. However, remembering the contributions of Gu Dashan's family, he couldn't ignore it. For the first time, he spoke for Gu Dashan's family, "Lao Liu, Dashan's family has been working hard all night. Let the children rest. With your many sons and daughters-in-law, are you worried about not being taken care of?"
Elder Gu, being the sixth in seniority, was respectfully addressed as Lao Liu by his peers and those older than him in the village.

Seeing the village chief speak up personally, Elder Gu glanced at Granny Gu, signaling her to restrain herself.
Granny Gu's face turned blue with rage, but knowing she couldn't trouble the eldest family right now, she suppressed her anger and allowed Gu Dagu to help her hurry on their way.
Mrs. Cui narrowly escaped a conflict.
Gu Jin'an whispered nearby, "Xiao Yu is really capable now, able to protect our mom."
Gu Jinli smiled, teased Brother Cheng, and the family, carrying their belongings, gathered together to hasten their journey.
This travel lasted the entire day, and it wasn't until dusk fell that they finally caught up with the fleeing group ahead.
Village Chief Gu instructed Gu Dafu to beat the gong, telling the villagers, "Everyone rest in place. It's already dark. Tonight, the village won't organize a search for food. Those who want to find food should organize their own groups. Be careful, prioritize safety, avoid trouble, and we will continue on our journey tomorrow."
Exhausted, after securing their rest spots for the night nearby, the villagers began to make fire, boil water, and prepare their evening meal.
"Mrs. Cui, aren't you coming over to work!" Granny Gu once again cursed while banging her cane, "Dashan, Good Brother An, are you two not going to find food? Want to starve the whole family?"
Mrs. Cui and Gu Dashan quickly unpacked their things and, along with Gu Jin'an, hurried to the Old Gu Family's site.
No sooner had they left, Gu Dagu, together with Little Sister Gu and Qian Li'er, arrived at Gu Dashan's family's resting spot and started to rummage through their belongings.
Gu Jinli, protecting Gu Jinxiu and Gu Jincheng behind her, watched them coldly.
Their belongings were already in the safekeeping of Third Grandma; Gu Dagu and the others wouldn't find anything valuable.
After a while, Gu Dagu and her group found only a half bamboo tube of water and a half bag of dried leaves.
Little Sister Gu, furious, glared at Gu Jinli, "Where did you hide your water?"
Gu Jinli pointed to the bamboo tube in Qian Li'er's hands, "It's all here."
Little Sister Gu, disbelieving, retorted, "You were the first to collect water, how could there be so little?"
Gu Jinli smiled innocently, "If Little Sister wants to know, she can ask the village chief, or maybe Third Grandpa and Third Grandma."
"You!" Little Sister Gu, exasperated but unable to gain any advantage and seeing that she truly couldn't take anything, grabbed the bamboo tube and was about to leave, but Gu Jinli stopped her.
Gu Jinli took back the bamboo tube from her hand, "This is our water. If Little Sister takes it, our family will have to ask the village chief for water to drink."
"You!" Little Sister Gu, fiercely angry yet also fearful of the village chief, had no choice but to retreat defeated.
Upon returning to the Old Gu Family's resting spot, Little Sister Gu harshly criticized Gu Jinli.
Qian Guangzong gave Gu Dagu a meaningful look, and understanding the hint, she softly spoke to Granny Gu, "Mom, Gu Xiaoyu is using the village chief to pressure our family. This won't do; we need to think of something. We can't let Gu Dashan's family turn things around."
And the only way to ensure that Gu Dashan's family would never rise was by selling them off!
