Chapter 85: Her Kiss

"They are already displeased with your actions, and you are planning to give them more reason," Cassandra asked, trying not to breathe in; his scent was messing with her thinking ability.

On the other hand, Siroos, being an Alpha, was extremely persistent in achieving what he set his eyes on. Now, all his focus was on his mate and winning over her heart.

"I will give them a show which will make them gnash their teeth together if you don’t say my name, Malakti," he stubbornly answered, and Cassandra slowly shook her head.

"You are so needy, Siroos," Cassandra twisted her lips to finally say his name. A pout jotted down her lips.

The smile on his face melted into a grin; his thumb swiped her cheek, slowly pinching it and turning it into a strawberry.

"Wasn’t that hard? Was it now?" He asked while drawing her further in by placing his hand on the small of her back.

"We should go, we have work to do. Or people might come looking for us." Cassandra slowly pushed her hands at his chest so she could move away.

"One kiss before we go. A small one," he requested with greedy eyes.

"You just ate my lips inside that cave, aren’t you satisfied yet?" Cassandra asked with her heart upping its beats.

"What can I do, Malakti? You are so sweet and I forever hunger for you," he gave her puppy eyes with his lips downcast.

"Fine! Fine, don’t be like that." Leaning in, she placed a chaste kiss on his cheek.

Sparks erupted where her lips touched his skin. This was the first time she had kissed him, and although he wished she would kiss his lips, he was going to take whatever she offered.

"Just on the cheek?" Siroos greedily asked.

How he wished to back her against one of the palm trees and ravage her sweet mouth again while she had her legs wrapped around him.

"Prove your words, and I might consider kissing you elsewhere, too. But now we should head over to the fields."

Unwantedly, Siroos complied, taking her hand in his. A dark green beetle was sitting on their plant which none of them saw. It flew and settled in Cassandra’s hair as they walked away.

They made their way to the Saffron fields. The guards posted outside bowed and opened the door for them.

Faris was collecting flowers with Ara, she had one in her hair. Her tinted cheeks revealed that it was most likely Faris who had placed it there.

The beetle flew and settled down on one of the flowers.

"Alpha! Nissa! Here." Lana waved and happily handed them jute baskets to collect the flowers.

"Thank you, Lana," Cassandra never failed to acknowledge her Beta woman.

Other workers greeted them as they passed and began to pluck the Saffron flowers. Leading the pack with an example that everyone was equal when it came down to work.

"To me, you smell like them and something more. I don’t think it’s a coincidence, I think it was meant to be this way." Siroos leaned closer and revealed as he plucked one lilac-shaded flower and tenderly placed it behind Cassandra’s ear.

She turned and was slightly taken aback by his revelation. The girl with gold in her hair knew that scent was important for shifters, and even she was able to distinguish Siroos’s essence from their very first meeting.

She never understood how, but maybe it was related to the fact that they were mates and could scent out each other.

"And for me, your scent is that of sage and these very lands we stand on," Cassandra informed him, placing her hand on the flower he had just tucked behind her ear.

Her heart swelled from his small gestures and the fear of it being fake was slowly crawling away to the sides. But it lingered, and she knew it would never entirely leave.

"Well, my name means the "The Desert Prince." It was only fitting; I smelled like one for the princess." Mischief dusted his eyes as he winked, putting a shy smile on her face. She lowered her gaze, unable to hold onto his sultry one.

"That was my first thought when I saw you. You are terrible at acting like a slave." It was Cassandra’s turn to wink at him, making him throw his head back and laugh.

Everyone around them paused as if a miracle had happened. They had never seen their Alpha laugh so boisterously. Their Luna was bringing out a side he always kept under the wraps.

"And yet you believed I was one, so I did something right," Siroos answered.

Faris sauntered over and placed one arm around Siroos’s hulking shoulders and the other around Cassandra’s delicate one. Bringing them closer to himself as he sandwiched himself between them.

"I want in on the joke as well," he demanded, turning his face left and right from his brother to his sister-in-law.

"The joke is that you are about to lose your left arm if you won’t remove it from around my mate." Siroos dangerously growled.

"Bless-o, you and your conservative thinking. I am her little brother now. I am exempted from all your rules. Right SIL?" Faris pleaded, batting his orangish eyes at her.

"Of course, Faris. Ignore your grumpy brother," Cassandra patted his hand, spurring Faris on to continue his naughty behaviour.

"Do you always have to interrupt when I am having a moment with my mate?" Siroos annoyedly asked, throwing Faris’s hand away and continuing with his task of plucking the flowers.

"Yes! Apparently, that’s what younger brothers do. You took your sweet time coming here. I wonder what you were doing?" Faris followed him like an annoying crow which hopped behind him looking for morsels.

Cassandra returned to work with a slight shake of her head at the question he had asked. She didn’t want to hear the embarrassing conversation that might follow. Walking over to Lana she began to pick flowers alongside her so both could converse as well.

"Your time will come, Faris. And remember, when it does, I will be teasing you ten times in comparison to what you do now. You will regret this," Siroos challenged. The basket looked relatively small in his large hand.

"Huh! You and tease? These two words don’t even fit together in a sentence when talking about you," Faris rambled on and on while Siroos’s mood soured as Faris had chased his mate away.

"Faris! Stop bothering your brother. Go work, your basket is still empty. Stop being so lazy," Haylia walked over with her basket, almost brimming and scowled, seeing Faris was only talking and not working.

"Fine! No one is fun in this family. I will go speak with SIL." He trotted over to Cassandra as Siroos’s glare followed him but he trusted his brother more than he trusted anyone.

He knew Cassandra would have a positive influence on him, and maybe he would realise the importance of having a mate.

He watched them make jokes. Lana and Cassandra were tittering at whatever story Faris was cooking up. It brought ease to Siroos, seeing his mate happy and smiling.

Around the afternoon, they headed inside for the separation process of the stalk from the flowers.

Siroos stood with all his might in the chamber where all the workers had gathered. He had decided to make a small speech..

"Today we have completed the harvesting. Soon, the drying up of the spice will also be accomplished, and we will move on to sorting and packing. I admire everyone’s efforts. Job well done," he acknowledged his pack and the tireless work they had been doing.

Murmurs of approval and nodding of the heads followed as pack members indulged in continuing the work.

Over the next few days, they completed all the process of Saffron. It was packed and sent out to the packs who had ordered it. Some packs sent out their own men to collect it and paid in gold coins and bartered items.

But the pack was relieved, their hard work had paid off and a celebration was arranged for the night. A grand feast was to be prepared. Where the wine will flow, and the pack will rejoice and relax after working hard for many days.

A few neighbouring pack Alphas and their Lunas had been invited to attend the feast as well.

Lana, Ara and Cassandra were getting ready for the celebration when the chamber door of Cassandra’s room was knocked and Siroos walked inside.

Cassandra’s heart took a double dive in her chest seeing how magnificently handsome he looked.

"Lana, Ara, I would like a word with my mate," he said, his gold-dusted eyes wavering to where Cassandra stood.

"Of course, Alpha!" They bowed and left the chamber. freewebnσvel.cѳm

Siroos turned to his mate who was still to change into a garb for the event.

"Can I dress you up?" He inquired with a plea creeping up into his voice as he walked over to her and stood just behind her.
