Chapter 66: Siroos’s Verdict On Kela

Cassandra’s ears pricked at Kela’s name. Jealousy is a dangerous emotion they said.

It coiled tightly around the heart, squeezing it in its ugly grip, like a vice of insecurity and envy. Her thoughts and emotions were twisted and a persistent pain settled in her heart.

She never told Siroos it was Kela who revealed the truth to her, making her wonder who did.

"Siroos, there is no need to drag this matter. Leave Kela out of this," Haylia asked her son with a shake of her head. Her hair were in a pretty braided updo, not a single one was misplaced.

Cassandra couldn’t restrain herself any longer. She had let them talk it out if Siroos should have an heir or not but she would be damned if she would let Kela be anywhere near her mate.

"With all due respect, Vera Haylia. She has been nothing but disrespectful to me. Telling me I was nothing but a mere showpiece Luna, while she would have the Alpha’s child. I have endured everything that has been thrown at me so far but I would be very clear on this. I won’t tolerate this woman anywhere near my mate." Siroos abruptly turned to face his Luna. A triumphant grin crawled up his lips,, but at the same time, he was baffled at Kela’s bravado.

’Did she just call us her mate?’ The wolf inside him surfaced and watched her with such devotion.

’That Kela, I never liked her but tolerated her touch because of you, Siro. She dares disrespect our mate, I am going to burn her alive.’ The dragon was beyond furious.

While Haylia observed her in a whole different light. Cassandra was no longer staring at her hands; she was directly gazing at Haylia as if she meant business and wouldn’t back down.

"Cassandra, I understand your apprehensions on this. I understand your pain too. I am not the enemy. Please! Don’t fare me so," she requested with a hand on her heart and a deep plea in her eyes.

But Cassandra was done playing her games.

"We are here," Faris announced loudly, diverting their attention. He pointed to a very scared-looking Kela and wriggled his brows.

She took demure steps and had fear crawling through her eyes as she stepped up to where they were sitting.

"Alpha! You called for me," she asked in a delicate squeaky voice.

’Of course, she would act all sweet in front of Siroos,’ Cassandra thought to herself.

Siroos pinned her with a hateful glare, he never knew she could get so venomous.

"What did you say to your Luna on the day of our bonding ceremony?" He questioned, straightening up to his true height and blasting particularly her with his powerful aura.

She was hit with such force that her eyes almost blew out and her knees gave way, stumbling to the hard ground below. A low whimper escaped her.

"Fun parts, I love it when brother dear blasts people with his aura and receiver is not me," Faris murmured to Cassandra, placing his hand in front of his mouth and leaning towards her, as if they were two best friends gossiping. It was so hard to remain serious and mad with Faris’s constant quips and antics.

"I—was as–ked to tell her the tr–uth about the cur–se," she squeaked like a dying duck, whose neck was being squeezed.

"By whom?" Siroos questioned and absolute agony flashed in her eyes.

"Siroos! Go easy." Haylia instructed but her voice was not sure. She had her head in her hands now.

Cassandra had seen Siroos’s barbarity firsthand, he didn’t forgive people who wronged her. As long as that person was not him.

What an irony.

"Elde–r W–alan! Rahma (Mercy)," she whimpered with her body shaking as if she was being struck by lightning again and again.

"That old geezer is going to have his life snuffed out by brother, someday," Faris let out a dry chuckle. He hated the man.

Cassandra wished to feel any pity or remorse for Kela and Walan but there was none today.

Siroos’s eyes changed colours like a chameleon as he turned his gaze from a whimpering Kela who had her forehead on the floor to his bewildered mother and raged out.

"You see. That man keeps intruding into my life. But I am telling you, ma. This is the last time that’s happening. Next time I will either kill him or banish him along with this woman on the ground. If you value their lives, keep them away from me and my mate."

Haylia was exhausted from all this back and forth between her son and the Elders. She had asked for Walan’s help but discreetly. This was a whole mess. She didn’t know Kela had told Cassandra about it. Haylia grasped that Kela was disrespectful.

Siroos furiously turned to face the woman on the floor.

"Kela, you disrespected my mate.

Went behind my back and blurted out misgivings which deeply hurt her.

Tried to create a barrier between me and her right before we were to be mated.

Colluded against your Alpha.

For all these charges I sentence you to a lifetime in the dungeon. You will never see the light of the day again. If I find you in another conspiracy, that will be the last day you breathe."

Like a grim reaper, Siroos laid out his verdict.

Kela raised her head from the floor; a hurricane of fear flashed across her face, followed by a gust of denial, interjected by the horror of her situation, which made her eyes almost fall out of her sockets.

Tears fell down her face in rapid succession.

"Nooo, rehma (mercy)," she screamed with her hands clasped together. But Siroos had no mercy in his heart, not for someone like her who betrayed his trust and looked down on his mate.

Haylia was shaking her head.

"Siroos! Reconsider, she was just following orders," she tried to speak impassively.

"Mother, don’t interfere when I give verdicts," he seethed out, keeping his burning gaze fixed on Kela.

Cassandra felt a tremor pass through her body at his tone; he scared her. But she made no attempt to stand up for Kela, a part of her was satisfied.

"Bless-o! Brother, went all in today," Faris didn’t hold back a chuckle.

Siroos barked out at the shivering woman on the floor, his rage hitting her in full force yet again, making her teeth chatter and her heart to almost bleed out.

"Apologise to you Luna, touch her feet. And next time remember your place."

Bewildered, she took a peek at Cassandra and their eyes met. Venom and hatred were all she found swirling in them. Kela blinked and more tears fell through her eyes as she tried to crawl her way towards Cassandra.

"No need; I think you have received ample punishment," Cassandra held up her hand, making Kela halt on the ground on all fours.

The silence hung like a choking mist in the air.

Ames, with one other warrior, arrived and picked Kela up from her limp arms. Siroos had depleted every ounce of energy from her body.

He had mind-linked them so they could take her away.

"Imprison her, I never want to see her face again," Siroos gave one last order before they dragged a wailing Kela away.

Siroos was still heaving and trying to bury the anger oozing out of his pores.

Haylia was strategising her next move while Cassandra was dealing with the factor that Kela was going to be a massive obstacle in her life. Somehow she could feel this was not the last time she was seeing her.

That woman wanted blood, her blood.

"Tch! Tch! You used to have a terrible taste in women. I am glad you found our Luna." Faris joked, trying to lighten the tense atmosphere. Waving his hand towards Cassandra.

"Can you ever read the room? Or learn to shut up. Maybe you need some training with me. Tomorrow morning at dawn, a two-hour session in the training arena," Siroos added with a death stare.

Faris was constantly being a pain in his ass.

"What? What did I do? You are just going to vent all your frustration on me. Do I look like a punching bag?" He demanded, trying to seem offended.

"Yes, a lazy punching bag with a big mouth. Go see if all preparations are in place and help Ranon. Ensure Elder Walan stays a good distance from me, for I don’t have the patience to handle him today. I will be passing a verdict regarding him too. It’s time for our marking ceremony."

Siroos was not done.

"Brother is on a row today," Faris mused, getting up and making a beeline for outside.

"Don’t mess with Walan. That man holds a grudge. Let this go," Haylia spoke from her years of wisdom but Siroos was in no mood to listen today.

His gaze had travelled to his beautiful mate now and considerably mellowed down.

But, she refused to meet his eyes.
