Chapter 65: Confrontation Between Mother And Son

Haylia withdrew her hands from Cassandra. There was a spark in the way she had spoken.

Lana brought date porridge for Cassandra and placed it in front of her. Haylia gestured with her hand for her to leave. She cast a wary look towards Cassandra, who seemed to be barely holding on because of this brutal conversation.

Opening the mindlink she sent a message to Ranon while walking away.

"A woman should always want what’s best for her man. The child will be yours too. You can raise him as your own. So you want him to remain without an heir?" Haylia asked with trepidation dripping from her words.

Cassandra couldn’t believe how easily Haylia was suggesting that she should let Siroos commit adultery and produce an heir with someone else. freewebnσvel.cѳm

"It’s not my decision. Your son will make the one which he deems right like he has made all the others," Cassandra painfully answered, trying to ease the gut-wrenching pain Haylia’s words were causing her.

She hadn’t signed up for such a life.

Why was she being dealt the worst of cards?

"You see, my son is a very upright man. He will want to do right by you and won’t understand what’s best for him and the pack. But if you will grant your permission, he will agree," Haylia pleaded, her desperation showed in the way she spoke.

Before she could answer, Siroos barged inside, fuming. Ranon had informed him about the situation and also that it was Kela who had tried to poison Cassandra. Faris was right on his heels with his easygoing attitude.

"Out everyone, I need to speak to my mother," he loudly ordered. Everyone scattered like flies seeing Siroos’s sour mood.

They proceeded to where their mother was tormenting Cassandra.

Siroos threw one glance at his mate and sensed her apprehensions. Her food was untouched, and her knuckles were white because of how tightly she was clutching her hands. Her face was ashen. He had to get her away from his mother.

Haylia quickly shut herself up, seeing her enraged son approach but her rapidly beating heart was going to give her away.

"Mother! What’s going on?" He demanded, placing both his hands palms down on the table and facing her. His piercing eyes focused on his mother, the dusted gold was slowly crimsoning. He had heard the last of his mother’s statements.

Haylia quickly composed herself and put on an affectionate smile. Faris slumped himself right beside a bewildered Cassandra and flashed her a sympathetic smile.

Cassandra’s face hardened seeing Siroos; the hurt he had caused her was still raw, and now his mother was tormenting her.

"Nothing, I was just having a conversation with Cassandra regarding her duties."

Siroos had to close his eyes to contain the bubbling anger inside of him. Cassandra jadedly watched the mother-son duo. It seemed like he was going to blast at Haylia, and ultimately, all the blame would fall on Cassandra.

Faris rolled his eyes and spread his legs out under the table. This was going to turn really interesting. Knowing his mother, her every move and word was calculated. She could eat one alive and chew out the bones with a smile on her face.

"Why does that involve me having my cock inside another woman? Didn’t I tell you to drop this matter?" Siroos seethed between his teeth. All the veins in his neck had protruded like blue streams of pain.

Haylia was slightly taken aback at her son’s words. Embarrassment tinged her cheeks.

Faris choked on his saliva and peeked at Cassandra who had her lips slightly parted in exasperation.

"I was just passing on a suggestion. Elders feel the same way, that you should have an heir."

Siroos banged his hand so loudly on the table that its tremor was felt in Cassandra’s heart. She flinched away and almost sprang from her seat.

Faris placed his hand on Cassandra’s shoulder and whispered.

"Relax! He is not angered at you."

"I know!" Cassandra answered slowly.

"For the love of all the gods you people love to worship. Stop making it your concern where I should be sticking my cock. Isn’t it enough that you people control where I shouldn’t be?"

Haylia went quiet as a stone seeing her son so over the edge. They had been pushing him too much and she never wished to involve him. That’s why she had spoken to Cassandra.

"Brother! I have never been so glad to have not been born as the eldest one. No one should control one’s poker. My apologies."

Faris aimed the last two words at Cassandra, who was turning redder and redder the more this conversation progressed.

"Shut up! Faris," Siroos glowered at his younger brother who never knew when to be serious. The word didn’t seem to exist in his head except in a life-and-death situation.

Haylia took the opportunity to continue.

"I will, but you can’t keep the Elders quiet for so long. They would demand you have an heir. Faris is not their alpha, he doesn’t possess the capability to bring forward an heir who can lead this pack. Only your child can have the ability to carry the spirit of all animals."

Haylia’s agitation was palpable as she tried to explain the situation. Her eyes pleaded with Cassandra to speak on the matter. But she chose to stay quiet, letting them resolve this between them. It was their mess, not hers. She was barely caught in it.

"Why am I being dragged into this conversation?" Faris questioned, twisting his lips and drumming his fingers on the table. His brother and mother ignored him as Siroos continued.

"We don’t know that. Faris has alpha blood too. That means he can pass on the abilities. The curse should mean I remain childless, not bang up some random woman. I am already a sinner, don’t make me an adulterer."

Haylia shook her head, there was not a single hair out of place. The atmosphere around them was getting tense with every passing second.

"Faris hasn’t found his mate. It has been four years since he turned 18 and the kind of lifestyle he has, do you think he even wants to seriously pursue that path?"

Faris’s mouth widened at the path this conversation had taken.

"I am right here. Sitting and listening," Faris pointed to himself with both his index fingers. The smile on his face was slowly disappearing.

It was Cassandra’s turn to throw him a sympathetic look and pat his shoulder. Now both of them were in the same boat.

"Why don’t they make him? Or do all the rules apply only to me?" Siroos frustratedly growled while straightening up. His hand went to his brown tresses and he pulled at them, irated.

"All of you can see me, right? Or did I become invisible?" Faris stood up in panic and stared down at his body, frantically touching his face in the process.

"We can see you, Faris," Cassandra quietly reassured him and the shock on his face slightly waned.

"Bless-o!" Faris let out a heavy sigh of gratitude, "I thought I was a goner."

"You don’t understand..." Haylia began but was rudely cut off by Siroos.

"Oh! Believe me, I do. I can see how you and the Elders used Kela to make certain revelations to my mate, right before our bonding ceremony. Already creating this wedge between us, poisoning her," Siroos countered, seething in rage, his body shook with it.

When Ranon had told him that it was Kela who told Cassandra about the curse, he had understood that it was the Elders colluding with her. She would never take such a step alone, knowing what he would do to her. She had support behind her actions.

Haylia’s eyes widened at Siroos’s allegation. She knew she was responsible for trying to steer her son towards another woman but she never sent Kela to speak to Cassandra, especially before their bonding ceremony.

"I–I...," Haylia tried to explain but Siroos held up his hand to silence his mother. His eyes had turned bright red like two rubies had been studded in them. They understood how protective the dragon was for his mate.

"I won’t let anyone berate or insult my mate. I didn’t want it to come down to this, but you have left me no choice with all your scheming, even though I warned you. So, today, I am putting an end to this. Faris, bring Kela here. NOW."

He thundered, standing tall with anger and displeasure lining every inch of his face. Cassandra subtly glimpsed in his direction as his eyes swept from his shocked mother to his snickering brother and then finally to her.

The rage in them simmered down a bit as they collided with her violet ones and he tried to understand what was going on in her mind.

"More drama, well I am in." Faris got up and rushed out, rubbing his hands together.

This was about to turn into a maelstrom of chaos.
