Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate-Chapter 129: Meeting Her Mother
Chapter 129: Meeting Her Mother
Cassandra sat stiff as a log, unsure if to let his scent seep into her and fill her heart.
Would it act as a salve or just plain torture?
She missed his touch but the poison that had brewed inside her because of his actions kept her wary.
"No," she answered in a tiny voice, keeping her eyes glued to her bandaged hand. She was trying her hardest to control her internal emotions and conflicts.
Siroos, on the other hand, knew she was lying. He stood behind her chair keeping a distance, watching her from behind. Her head slightly bowed as if her eyes were observing her hand. Her mouthwatering scent hung all around her like a forbidden invitation he could no longer accept.
There was a time when he had a million things to say to her, to tease her with his naughty words, to caress her skin with his sultry whispers, but now he was just blank.
The awkward silence hung between them like this pernicious mist, choking and suffocating.
Siroos finally compelled himself to speak.
"Can I walk you to your chamber?"
More silence followed as he waited for her response while holding his breath.
Cassandra’s heart thundered inside her chest but she snaked in a deep breath before saying.
"I can find my way around, thank you for your offer but no," she said firmly, now fidgeting with the hem of her dress.
Her words struck deep like bolts of lightning but he had promised to keep his distance and not push her.
"I understand, take care of your hand. Do take your meals on time." He had learnt from Faris how she wasn’t eating properly.
How was she to explain that there were usually so many knots of anxiety in her stomach, twisting in her belly that she could hardly eat these days?
"I will try," Cassandra answered heavily, getting up. She needed to get away from him, his presence was a constant torture, a reminder that she could never have him. That he might end up hurting her again, physically and emotionally.
Her dress ruffled, and the slight clink of the tiny bells on her anklet told him she never took it off although he had thought she might.
’Ames! Guard your Luna. She is headed towards her chamber,’ Siroos instantly mind linked his Gamma while he dolefully watched her.
’On it, Alpha,’ Ames spoke through and rushed to take his position.
Her figure receded as he held his breath and waited for her to turn and give him a glimpse, for her to pause and utter a last word but she didn’t.
Cassandra could feel the heat of his gaze weighing heavily on her, his regrets flooded the bond between them and she almost crumbled under the heaviness. But she kept going until she climbed the stairs and was out of his line of sight.
The breath she didn’t know she was holding rushed out of her as she hurried to her chamber and closed the door behind her. Her body slowly slipped down to the floor, curling into herself she lay there on the cold ground and cried, hugging her broken body.
Why did it hurt so much?
Cassandra slowly closed her eyes, tears shimmered on her lashes as she drifted into sleep with a butchered heart.
A bright white light welcomed her as she slowly walked forward like a lost lamb, her eyes trying to focus in the blinding radiance.
’Did I die of heartbreak and go to heaven?’ She questioned herself while trudging on clouds which seemed like cotton.
" My child," a sweet motherly voice called out and she frantically swivelled her head to see where the voice was coming from. "Just follow my voice."
’Is someone calling me?’ Cassandra wondered and moved forward in confusion when she saw the beautifully exquisite woman from her numerous dreams.
The very air around the celestial woman shimmered like thousands of specs of light, and the silvery hair which seemed to have caught the essence of the moon spread all around her like streaks of white light.
But it was the kind smile on her lips that pulled Cassandra towards her like a lost sailor being pulled towards a lighthouse.
Cassandra wandered forward and the woman opened her arms, engulfing her in them like the vast branches of a tree nestling a scared bird in its embrace.
That overly agitated heart of hers brimmed with calmness only a mother could bring to their child. Soon Cassandra was bawling her eyes out in the embrace of this strange woman who didn’t appear like a stranger to her.
"My beautiful girl, I have got you," she lovingly whispered, placing a kiss in the younger woman’s hair, soothing the raging storm in Cassandra’s heart.
"Who are you?" She asked the ethereal being she was hugging. Tilting her head Cassandra stared into her enchanting eyes, the women seemed to smile through them.
"Isn’t it obvious? I am your mother," she kindly said, wiping Cassandra’s tears.
"M–mother? But she had golden hair like me or I was told. You seem like some goddess," Cassandra was stumped while the woman’s smile broadened.
"Ah! The time is near when the whole truth will be revealed to you. I came because you were heartbroken because of what happened between you and Siroos. Remember it might seem like your world has crumbled, and you might not find your way in this blinding pain but you are strong. You are my daughter and you will conquer the world one day. I know it. So strengthen your heart, don’t let anyone shatter it."
Placing her delicate hand on Cassandra’s heart she pressed it slightly. The white light from her hand like the beams of hope entered her daughter’s heart, healing it partially.
Cassandra gasped as the woman spoke again.
"Good luck for Luna Trials. We will meet again. It’s time for you to rest."
Before Cassandra could question her further everything swirled around her and caved in. Cassandra spiralled and landed safely back into her chamber. Her eyes fluttered open and she quickly picked herself off the ground.
’What a strange dream?’ Cassandra muttered, but the ache in her heart had dropped to half from the previous amount.
