Chapter 111: The Conspiracy

Only two warriors were allowed to visit and keep check on Kela in the dungeon. Provide her with food and other basic necessities along with other prisoners who had been incarcerated.

But Ghala permitted the warriors to attend the feast, hence clearing the way for Walan to sneak in and speak with Kela. They had a plan in place.

Holding a torch Walan discreetly maneuvered his way in, walking along many dark passageways. He stepped down the steep stairways carved in the ground, watching his step so he wouldn’t fall.

The dungeon was a dark, stinky place. There was no natural light and very little air ventilation, which made it a terrifying place to live in.

He knew exactly the place where they had thrown Kela, confidently sauntering over; he paused right outside her cell and raised the torch. The dingy, sunless square chamber with silver-coated bars and mesh was illuminated.

Kela was huddled up in a corner. She raised her hand and shielded her eyes from the light while rapidly blinking. No one ever came to visit her as Siroos had forbidden it so she wondered who it could be.

Her cotton beige dress was sticking to her skin and she smelled like a fish as she hadn’t bathed since her incarceration.

"Kela!" Walan called out in a low murmur and a ray of hope ignited in her heart.

"Elder Walan!" She scurried towards him on all fours, her eyes flashed in a far-fetched possibility that she might get another chance.

"How are you doing, my child?" He asked in fake concern and Kela’s eyes brimmed up with tears.

"Not good, Elder Walan. Please, get me out of here. I can’t keep living like this." She began to cry softly while kneeling in front of him with her hands clasped as if she were begging him.

"Hush! Child, I am here to do just that. We have a plan and if you can execute it, you will not only have our blessing but Alpha’s heir in your belly."

Kela’s eyes blew wide at his words. Was there still a chance for her?

"How?" She asked, bewildered.

"Cassandra has brought fertility with her. So far five women have gotten to be with a child since Siroos marked her. Likely, you can too. We just have to play our cards right. So, here is what we are going to do."

Walan laid out the plan he and Ghala had concocted, and now it was being revealed to Kela. The more he spoke the more her eyes flickered with evilness that lived within.

By the time he was done, Kela was laughing like a mad woman.

"It’s a plan which I can execute with my eyes closed. Just get me out of here, Elder Walan, and I will help you achieve this glorious dream."

"I can’t wait to see her heartbreak. Siroos ousted me because of her, it’s time I showed them what true power looks like," Walan triumphantly announced, his eyes reflecting the light of the torch as he fished inside his pocket and extracted a vial and slipped through the mesh. Kela caught it.

"Here, drink this and throw some on your body as well. Your scent will change."

She quickly did as was told, dousing herself in a new scent. The scent they had extracted from the stolen hair of Cassandra.

The menacing conspiracy unfolded in the lowly lit dungeon while the merriment continued in the common area of their dwelling.

All the newly expecting females were given garlands by Haylia. Her beaming smile revealed how satisfied she was with this new development.

She couldn’t help but praise her daughter-in-law and thank her for her role.

Cassandra had announced a helper with every female, plus their mates were asked to take extra care now that their women were carrying another life inside them.

"I would like to take this moment and remind all of you that we are all one big family. We rejoice together, we cry together and we carry the burdens together too. The pack is taking a new turn towards a bright future. I hope all of you are ready to lend a helping hand," Cassandra asked, standing up near Siroos with her hand on his shoulder.

The pack chorused behind her.

"Luna! We are."

"That’s what I wish to hear from all of you. And if anyone needs anything or would like to discuss an issue. I have a listening ear," she concluded.

Siroos patted her hand that rested on his shoulder, the man couldn’t be prouder of the way she had slid into her Luna role and how seriously she was taking it. He hadn’t seen the pack so united and so full of love with each other. More and more of the unmated youngsters were finding their mates now.

"Here is to our Luna and all the new mas to be." Faris raised his goblet with a wink towards his sister-in-law, which earned him a grunt from his brother, but as usual, he ignored it.

Cassandra raised her goblet, too, along with her pack members, and they all drank.

Everyone brought something for the expected females to facilitate them through this process. From exotic dried fruits like mangoes to clothes, toys and gold coins. Everyone contributed because the children meant the pack would thrive, they were considered the children of the pack.

Especially higher the rank, the more privileged they were considered. No wonder everyone wished for Alpha’s child but it wasn’t meant to be.

After the merry event, Cassandra helped all the expecting mothers and personally saw them to their chambers, ensuring they had all the essentials. Tara remained behind Cassandra like her shadow.

Lastly, Cassandra saw Lana in her chamber, both of them held hands.

"I will be coming to assist you with at least your hair and clothes. Don’t shun me out completely, I am still your Beta," Lana possessively announced, knowing that Haylia had tasked Ara to help Cassandra with fetching water and other tasks which required heavy labour and cooking. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"Hey! You will always be my Beta and it’s just a few months, girl. Don’t worry." Cassandra hugged Lana before leaving as Ranon arrived to be with his mate and took a bow towards his Luna.

Tara took Cassandra to her chamber and found Siroos impatiently pacing back and forth with his hands behind his back and his forehead furrowed.

The orange light from the lantern mounted on the wall cast its glow on his rugged torso and the girl with golden hair willed herself to breathe. This brutish man was squeezing his way into her heart with every slipping day and she wondered how long before she would succumb to his charms.

As soon as his eyes found Cassandra, the lines on the forehead melted away, and a smile jotted down to his full lips.

"That will be all, Tara. I will take it from here," Siroos said, extending his hand so Cassandra could take it.

Tara took a bow and left.

She placed her hand in his so he could guide her inside.

As soon as the door closed, Siroos pressed his taut body against hers against the door.

"Siro?" She questioned but her voice came out weak and squeaky.
