Chapter 103: I Won’t Kill Any Bunnies

Hearing her words dripping in pain, Siroos drew further closer to her and enclosed his buffed arms around her waist. Placing his nose in the dip of her neck he took a deep whiff and heaved out.

"Don’t leave me, Cassa. You are all I need. I don’t need any other woman."

"Call me selfish if you may. But we are in this together. If I can’t have a child, neither can you," she laid out the harsh truth and his arms tightened around her.

"I don’t need a child if it’s not with you," he slowly breathed out and they both relaxed against each other. A burden seemed to have been lifted off Cassandra’s heart.

The bond squirmed in her chest, telling her to trust her mate.

"You mean it?" She placed her hands on his.

"Every word."

"Let’s train. After that, I wish to learn something new," she said with a click of her tongue. There was this naughty hint of a smile on her face.

"Regarding training?" Siroos suspiciously asked.

"No," she winked at him, wriggling out of his arms and taking a step away towards the poles for push-ups.

"Then?" Siroos’s curiosity was piqued some more.

"Help me with the push-ups, Siro." She turned her head and raised her arms so he could lift her and she could hang with the poles.

"You are leaving me hanging, Malakti." Siroos picked her up from her waist so she could hang from the wooden bars.

"Not for long, trust me like I did you," Cassandra called out as Siroos removed his arms from around her waist and let her hang.

"Alright, here you go. Try to lift your upper body and go all the way up with the focus on your arms," Siroos guided her as Cassandra struggled to do pull-ups.

Princesses didn’t do pull-ups, they only looked pretty. But she wasn’t a princess anymore, she was a Luna now.

Cassandra huffed as she half-lifted herself and then fell back, hanging limply by her arms. Seeing her struggle Siroos provided guidance but didn’t touch her, letting her struggle and get it right.

She couldn’t perform full pull-ups but she went more than halfway, making Siroos proud.

Target practice followed, and this time, Cassandra was able to hit the board with her dagger. She had improved over the last three days.

"Yes! Finally," she pumped the air with her fist. Siroos smiled. It was time to up the game a notch.

"Cassa! Today I will teach you how to hunt an animal. Living in the desert, this is a very basic skill. To be able to kill it, skin it and cut it into edible-sized pieces."

Her heart skipped a beat at the killing part. She wasn’t fond of killing. The last time she did it, she had nightmares for weeks. Still did. This time it was going to be some innocent animal.

What if they brought out her furry friend? The very thought shook her to her core.

"K–kill? What animal? I am not going to kill any bunnies," she defiantly told him, placing her hands on her waist. She hadn’t exactly told her mate that she was very attached to a certain white bunny with red eyes.

"Bunny? Where did you get that idea from?" Siroos let out a confused chuckle, gawking at her face.

"Nowhere, just that bunnies are cute and innocent, they shouldn’t be killed," she blurted out, trying not to stare into his eyes. Her cheeks warmed.

"Malakti! In the trials, they can give you any kind of animal. It can be a bunny or sparrow, just to test you. You can’t show weakness."

"Weakness? What kind of strength is it to kill such an innocent animal? Strength is shown when you face off with someone or something stronger than you. I won’t kill a bunny, I am telling you beforehand," she huffed out, a scowl appearing on her face and staying.

Siroos had to shake his head and fight back another chuckle.

"You are one of a kind, this beautiful heart of yours. I don’t even know what to do about it. I promise no bunnies today." His fingertips rubbed the annoyed ridges that had formed on her forehead so they would melt away.

"Good."

Siroos led her forward towards another area of the training arena, where there was a huge cage guarded by one of the warriors. Inside the cage were a few deers, with their light brown coats and silver antlers. They could easily camouflage in these sands.

"It’s time to test your skill with dagger throwing. Let’s see how good your aim has become with a moving target."

Cassandra was hardly hitting a stationary target; she was not sure how she was going to hit a moving one.

And a deer. They were cute too. Not that she hadn’t eaten them hundreds of times, it was just she never had to hunt them before.

"A deer?" She asked with a gulp, giving him pleading eyes.

"I know, I know they are also cute for you. But we will starve to death, Malakti–if you keep finding all the animals like that. That’s why they are called Luna Trials, not Luna Desires." Siroos sighed.

"Fine fine, you don’t have to mock me," Cassandra answered in determination, gripping the hilt of her dagger strongly.

Siroos indicated to the guard and he opened the barred wooden door of the cage, ushering the deer out. It took some tentative steps on its thin legs and sniffed the ground before coming out of its restraining area.

"Now, remember. Deers are fast creatures with acute hearing and sharp eyes. You have to move very stealthily, staying low. Take cover if there is any or alleviate yourself. Climb a rock, boulder, tree whatever structure you have nearby so you can have the upper hand. It’s always easier to target them from a height. Bow and arrow are the easiest weapons against them, but we are not doing easy; we are starting with the most difficult."

Siroos explained, stepping aside and leaving Cassandra with the deer standing in front. There was only a small wooden barrier separating them.

The deer was grazing the small patches of bushes; its almond-shaped eyes were cast downwards. Cassandra was staring at the dagger in her hand and planning in her head how she was going to kill this beautiful creature.
