Transmigrated to a Dark Fantasy World of SSS-Rank: King of the Void-Chapter 58: Hack n’ Slash
The wind blew, breaking against the swing of the club. The beast growled before striking, but the swift movement of something stopped it dead in its tracks, forcing it to step back—it sounded as if the air itself had been sliced in a single motion, striking the weapon and pushing it away.
At the same time, mysterious blue flames ignited near the carriage, rising into the sky like flares before bursting into a bright sphere that, fortunately, illuminated most of the road. Only then could it finally be seen: the forest, filled with trees surrounding the path, but also the small shadows watching from the distance with malicious eyes.
A chill ran down Mitsuki’s spine at the realization that he had almost died, and in front of him stood Marco, holding his double-edged longsword with an expression of absolute concentration. The weapon carried golden and silver hues that made it look like something a hero would use to defeat the Demon King—it matched that embarrassingly flashy knight armor.
"Fall back, loser! It’s a Goblin Berserker!" Marco shouted, raising his sword high as he advanced toward the creature, which had already managed to stand back up.
Its skin was grayish green, with long pointed ears on a small head full of disgusting bumps. Its eyes bulged, one arm longer than the other, and its muscles were deformed. It wore nothing but a primitive loincloth, along with its wooden club.
The beast charged at Marco, roaring ferociously, but he dashed forward and appeared before it in the blink of an eye. Their eyes met for an instant before his hands moved at an absurd speed.
He raised both arms, carving a deep slash through the Goblin from its abdomen to its neck. The beast’s entrails spilled out along with a cascade of black blood that splattered across the ground—but that wasn’t enough for Marco. As the monster collapsed backward, he kicked it into the air and cut it into pieces in a motion that lasted less than a second.
Mitsuki was stunned. After stepping back enough and seeing Monar raise his staff to launch more flares, he tightened his grip on the shotgun, frustrated.
’I couldn’t do anything... Again...’
He lamented his own weakness, but then Monar said something to him.
"You took too long to get out. Next time, you’ll have to be faster."
"I know. What was that earlier? I could see you, but..."
Monar smiled.
"There’s a Goblin Shaman hiding among the trees, strengthening the others with him: the Knife Goblins and some Goblin Berserkers. He’s the one who used an illusion to lure you into his trap."
’Knife Goblins? So far I’ve only seen the Ash ones...’ he thought, paying attention to the enemies around them.
At that moment, Monar cast his magic again like a flare. The sky lit up once more, revealing seven Berserkers walking toward Marco. Each carried a different weapon: an iron shield, a golden halberd, a large double-edged sword, a heavy double axe, a club embedded with sharp pieces of stone, an immense hammer made of rock, and a long wooden bow.
The Bow Berserker drew its weapon and aimed a stone arrow at Monar. The dark elf clicked his tongue in annoyance, then struck his staff against the ground and summoned a stone wall that rose from the earth, kicking up dust. A small window formed in the wall, through which he could see Marco charging at the Berserkers as if it were nothing.
"I suggest you aim your weapon to the side and fire."
"What?"
"Just do it!"
Confused, Mitsuki turned and fired without hesitation. The spark from the shot revealed that a small Goblin, about a meter tall, had leapt toward him holding a sharp knife. The flaming bullet struck its torso, disintegrating it into residual ash.
"Oh, damn..." Mitsuki muttered, surprised.
"They’re intelligent—too much so, I’d say," Monar said. He struck his staff against the ground, summoning earthen spikes that pierced two Goblins attempting the same trick as the one before. "They always target the mage and whoever looks weakest in a group. They send their strongest Goblins as a distraction while the mage summons more support. That’s more or less how they operate—and if you’re distracted, they’ll kill you no matter how strong you are."
’Why couldn’t they be the dumb RPG Goblins? Why does everything in this world have to have the potential to kill so easily?’
The highest difficulty world, indeed.
Suddenly, silence fell. The Goblins stopped attacking, which made Monar sigh in relief. The wall sank back into the ground, revealing Marco sitting atop a pile of Berserker corpses.
’He defeated them way too fast...’
"You could’ve helped us a bit, Marco."
The blond shook his head.
"No need. These bastards aren’t attacking anymore. Mountain and Azel already killed the mage."
’That’s right, where are those two?’ He looked around but couldn’t find them. ’Azel disappeared when I got down, but the bald guy...’
"Either way, that was pretty easy, but it’s not normal for Goblins to be this close to Luxar."
Monar nodded.
"I know. It’s likely the Goblin Shaman knew how to use Spatial Magic to bring all his friends here. If he’s capable of creating Transmission Portals or directly transporting his allies from point A to point B, then it’s also likely that Goblin attacks on people will increase in the coming days."
"Okay. Then send a letter to Luxar to inform them of the situation. Everyone’s going to have to watch their backs when they leave the city. Put it under my name and use my seal."
Monar nodded and headed to the carriage. Just then, Azel and Mountain appeared, emerging from the forest with their clothes stained in black blood. Both men stopped to talk with Monar, while Mitsuki had to deal with something else.
"They almost killed you," Marco said. "Do you think you can handle this until the end of the journey? If not, you’d better turn around and go to hell along with Monar’s familiar."
Looking at the ground, Mitsuki clenched his fist.
"I committed to being the porter, so I’ll keep going."
"Good. That’s it. Get back in the carriage. We’ll resume the journey shortly. Meanwhile..." He stood up and walked toward the carriage. "I need to check if the horses were injured."
Mitsuki watched the blond in silence, still confused.
’You call me a loser and then act like this... What kind of twisted mind does this guy have? He reminds me of Ellegaard.’
At least she’s cute.
