"I-Is everything going to be alright? I am scared."

One of the super soldiers asked as she looked at the nice lady who had gotten her out. The nice lady gave her a small smile and handed her a toffee.

Her whole body hurt due to the experiment and genetic mutation, and every second made her feel as if her body would explode any second. And yet, her mutated healing kept her alive, and her conditioning kept her living.

"Everything will be alright. Here, you and the others can have some sweets along with the others. I assure you that you will soon live a normal life."

The nice lady smiled at the kids she had saved.

Unlike her partner, who had been given this ’divine’ mission by the system, she was helping because this was what God would have wanted her to do.

She had been a nun before the system came, and she, along with the others around her, had taken it as a trial from God to see if humanity could survive and do well under crisis.

Most of her brothers and sisters had either fallen or lost their faith, but she never had. She was ready to give her life if it meant helping these kids.

"Let’s keep going. We are almost there. Once we get to the forest, I can set up a connection with the system and get these kids to be alright once more."

He told the nun, and she nodded. At this point, that man helping her was her only lifeline. He had approached her once he had seen the nun’s devotion and her desire to help these kids. And he had proposed a solution to her she had never dared to approach before.

They continued to walk, and the nun’s heart kept beating faster and faster.

Finally, these kids would be free, and she would no longer have to feel like she did not do enough to help them.

However, when she reached the clearing, all she saw was her partner standing there with a dark look on his face.

"Mister, what’s wrong-"

"Thank you for helping me out until now. Unfortunately, this is where our mission ends. These kids will be handed over to the system now to do the necessary procedure to ensure this does not happen again."

The man who helped her told the nun, and she felt her heart skip a beat.

"W-What does that mean? Sir, what are you talking about? T-These kids-"

"Were a mistake in the system’s eyes. That’s why the system sent me here to take care of them and destroy the facility where they were being produced. These games need to be played by humans fairly."

The man told the nun and the kids. They watched as his human skin got peeled off, and a monster appeared from behind.

"Kids, get behind me. The Lord and I will protect you-"

The nun promised, only to get pushed aside as the monster attacked them. One of the kids deployed the shield around them, but it was easily broken.

These kids were strong and had combat powers, but their bodies were too stressed out to take the burden. Moreover, the genetic mutation had made them rather fragile.

These modified soldiers would not get to live much longer.

"Do you kids not realize that I am trying to help you? Living must be especially difficult after what has been done to you. But if you allow the system to help you out, then you can go back to being normal. Won’t you like to live a normal life?"

It was a tempting offer, and the kids wavered. But ultimately, the brainwashing they were made to go through was much stronger.

"We are humans. We will do what is good for humanity. You won’t be able to take us-" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

The kid speaking suddenly had a hole in his stomach. He looked back with betrayed eyes as one of the other kids hurt him.

"I-I am sorry. But I want to be normal. I cannot take this burden anymore. I-ahhh."

The kid lost control due to the system’s sudden interference, and the same happened to the other kids.

They lost their rationality and became monsters controlled by the system.

"Looks like I was too late. It was only a matter of time before the system started to interfere and did something regarding this. Don’t you all agree?"

The man asked Andrew and his party, who arrived just in time to see the kids lose their minds.

"What is happening here? What did you do?"

Queen asked as she threw a dagger made of ice toward the man. But he sighed and deflected it easily with his own sword.

"What did I do? I did nothing but save humanity. Did you truly think the system would allow you to cheat games like this? If the solution was this simple, then wouldn’t other species who are much more intelligent have done something like this before?"

Thief bit his lip as he considered those words and realized that he had made a mistake. He should have taken precautions against the system’s interference.

But his abilities had not shown him that this would happen...

"Are you saying that Thief made a mistake? How dare you. Take that back right now. I won’t have you slander him like this."

Queen immediately attacked the intruder who caused this mess, only to be stopped by one of the kids who blocked her way. It caused her to stumble a little and gave her opponent enough time to launch a counter.

Another kid attacked her, and even though the Queen had an advantage in power, she was outnumbered and also being careful not to harm these kids Thief had worked so hard on.

The kids quickly began to overpower her, but she still refused to use her powers.

"Tsk, it’s time we interfere. We need to calm these kids down if we want to help them-"

"Unfortunately, it is too late. The only way to help these kids is to put them out of their misery. However, whether you would actually be able to do that is a different story."
