Reborn as a Mechanist with a God-Tier System-Chapter 267: The Mechanic deep in the Wasteland [2]
Leon drove inside a vastly changed shelter.
Compared to months ago, the main chamber of the ancient once decrepit SpaceX facility was no longer the only part that was being utilized and renovated.
Leon already renovated the entire SpaceX facility, redesigning it to align with his image from the architectural and civil engineering knowledge that he gained from advancing as a D Rank Warmachine Specialist.
Now, there were multiple narrow access corridors inside the shelter that led to 3 different reinforced living quarters, others led to storage rooms that were stacked with supplies.
The entire shelter was illuminated with bright LED lights.
The lights were usually in a state of hibernation, but the moment the modified Karaki CT-3X superbike drove in, they all lit up.
The moment the superbike drove in, a few Basic Cleaning Bots that were motionless before quickly came to life as directed by their sensors they moved, diligently cleaning and mopping off the dirt that was left by the bike’s tires.
Apart from the 3 different living quarters and the storage rooms, the shelter now had escape tunnels that branched off at irregular angles. Some were wide enough for vehicles to pass through, others barely qualified as crawlspaces.
Each one of them led to distant exits that were disguised among ruins miles away from the shelter in different locations.
Despite the unique nature of this SpaceX facility, the unique advantage of his ChronoSystem, and the fact that the shelter was not yet found by any government despite occupying this planet for centuries already, the more Leon learned about Ascended, the more he didn’t want to be complacent despite being a D Rank Ascended now.
These escape tunnels were his contingency plan in the situation that a worst case scenario happened.
Each wall of this shelter bore the mark of retrofitting, from the welded plates to the exposed conduits at some parts, to the layers of insulation that were meant to kill sound and mask heat signatures.
And at the heart of the shelter lay his workshop.
2 weeks ago, after his initial structural planning, considering the kind of projects he would be tackling as a D Rank Mechanist, Leon realized that the original space of the shelter would not be enough to fit his workshop anymore, so he dug deeper.
His new workshop was at the heart of the shelter, built inside a cavern that he carved and expanded with the help of not 1 but multiple Doom Rovers.
Inside this cavern, overhead cranes traced slow arcs along steel rails while tool racks climbed the walls, dense with mechanical arms, diagnostic rigs, and half-finished assembles.
Apart from the overhead cranes, there were dozens of bots moving about, engaging in construction activities that were supervised by the ChronoSystem.
CLANG! CLANG!
The sound of metal and machinery reverberated.
Even while Leon was out, his workshop was working automatedly.
Apart from the abilities that Leon gained at E Rank, after becoming an E Rank Mechanist, the ChronoSystem upgraded, enabling semi-automated production.
At D Rank, after choosing his Class Specialization, this function of the system upgraded again, turning into full-scale automated production.
All Leon needed to do was access the System interface, input the details of the mechanical products that he wanted work on, provide the materials needed, and with the overhead cranes and bots ready to do the heavy-lifting work, the System now had the ability to construct automatedly.
All he had to do was sacrifice his ADE remotely.
Leon could leave the shelter for an entire year and with the right prompts and regular supply of ADE plus materials, the ChronoSystem could keep on constructing automatedly on his behalf for an entire year.
Leon drove the Karaki CT-3X superbike into the workshop.
The air in the workshop area smelled of oil, ozone, and warm metal.
Inside the workshop, dominating one side of the chamber stood a towering bipedal gray humanoid mech suit with a streamlined humanoid head.
Its frame towered over the floor, standing at over 15 feet with armored plating wrapped around a skeleton of reinforced hydraulic joints.
Thick pistons lined its legs and spine, promising brutal strength and precise control. Strapped to its back was a massive Great Sword of pure titanium while hidden all over its massive body were other weapons.
Hard points studded its shoulders and forearms, serving as modular mounts designed for artillery, missile pods, and experimental weapon systems that were yet to be installed.
Despite this being a Blueprint that was tied to a Mechanist Class Specialization meaning it must have been refined for centuries, Leon still already saw ways to improve on the blueprint.
He was always thinking outside the box.
This was his first ever Bulwark MK.II Titan Frame.
Despite his improved Construction ability, it still took him a lot of time and a lot of effort to construct the mech suit.
The past 2 weeks taught him that crafting a mech suit was unlike creating a fighter robot like the Doom Rover. Once he had all the materials in place, it still took him more than a week and some days to construct a single one of the mech suits, but its specs were insane.
Around the area where the Bulwark MK.II Titan Frame stood, there were more than a dozen similar but slightly more underwhelming robots.
Each was smaller than the mech suit but equally massive, and they were distinct in silhouette and purpose.
These were the Doom Rover v0.2s, Leon’s upgraded version of the Doom Rover v0.1 with more varied utility and types.
The Doom Rover v0.2 was a mixture of his old Doom Rover v0.1 blueprint plus modifications and ideas that he got from the Bulwark MK.II Titan Frame.
Some of the new robots were lean and fast, built for high-speed movement and skirmishing. Others were broad and heavily armored, serving as walking fortresses bristling with defensive systems and energy shields.
All of them bore the same signature of careful craftsmanship and relentless iteration, and yet even they were overshadowed by what occupied the center of the workshop.
Suspended from a web of supports was a stealth reconnaissance UAV, its wingspan stretching nearly wall to wall.
This was the Zerphyr-7 Stealth Reconnaissance UAV.
This guy here already put Leon into an ocean of debt with Leviathan Quay.
The craft was sleek and lightweight, its surfaces faceted and matte, designed to scatter radar and swim in the sky.
Long, narrow wings hinted at high-altitude endurance, while sensor arrays nestled along its fuselage promised eyes that could see far beyond the horizon.
This was a long-range scout built for silence and patience, a craft built for watching worlds without being seen.
This was Leon’s first masterpiece so far as a D Rank Field Engineer of the Mechanist Class.
"Turn on".
CLICK!
The LED lights of the aircraft turned on as its engine came to life in response to his voice due to its sophisticated voice-recognition system, and yet no audible sound came out of this masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Its engine was as silent as night.
Seeing this, Leon grinned. "Attaboy!"
Miniaturization!
BZZZ!
Amid a flash of grayish white ADE, Leon came down from the Karaki CT-3X superbike as his ADE engulfed the cargo crate, miniaturizing it and enabling him to easily carry it to a corner of the workshop.
Clank!
He dropped it at a corner, then he straightened, looking from the fresh cargo to the machines that he had already built for the past 2 weeks.
Leon exhaled. "This ain’t bad".
He walked towards his work desk, pulled the chair back and sat down casually even as the ChronoSystem continued working on his behalf.
And then, he checked his System Status for the first time in a while.
DING!
