Maria glanced her special Trial Shop after realizing that it might be better to find Nightmares this way.

She could also spread her Aura around, but it was quite oppressively powerful, and it would only make the girls ask her questions.

So a device to give her the answers was much more convenient anyways!

"Oh yeah, I got a lot of points… Alright, that one."

She quickly purchased an item, selecting it with her finger by touching the empty air, she made sure they didn't found out what she was doing.

Ding!

[You have exchanged 1.500 Friendship Points!]

[You have purchased the Friendship Point Shop Item: [Nightmare Detector (C Grade)]!]

The object instantly materialized inside of her inventory, not in front of her, making it easier for her to pretend she always had it.

Maria grabbed the item from her inventory, her shadows, and glanced at it with slight curiosity.

The item she purchased resembled a small circular device with a little screen and a few buttons, it was dark purple colored.

"Let's see, where do I… Is it here?"

She raised an eyebrow as she pressed the obvious button any gamer would try right away.

DING! DING! DING!

By pressing the START button, a signal began to be taken, and the area was mapped instantly.

"Aha! Found them!" she said happily. "This device's nice!"

The girls were left dumbfounded, as Maria noticed a large concentration of Nightmares to the northwest, all together doing something, maybe feeding on something, she couldn't completely tell.

"Since when did you had something like that? That's amazing!" said Emily. "With that we can track down nightmares easily?" she walked towards Maria, in fact, all the girls did.

"Ah yeah," Maria said. "I got it the other day, it wasn't cheap…"

"Woah, that's sure a useful gadget!" Martina noticed. "I wonder how much did it cost? I wish I could have one myself…"

"Eeeh, uh, it cost a lot," said Maria. "I don't know if they make them anymore…"

"I have never heard or read online about technology of this caliber, it's truly surprising…" Sofia nodded. "Well, let's go where it says, so we can pick up more Nightmare Beasts! Girls, ready yourselves for anything, alright?"

Maria and her party moved forward after that little chat, with Nyx at the front this time, as she looked around for anything suspicious, her sharp dragon senses allowed her to be a great danger detector.

As they evaded deadly traps in the forest and the giant bubbles everywhere, they made their way to a slight more open field, the Nightmare Detector was ringing annoyingly, so Maria quickly turned its ringing off.

"Okay, we're here… What the hell is that?"

Maria pointed into the distance, noticing the clearing was covered mostly on thorny vines, and there was something weird in the middle.

A huge…

"A book?" wondered Sofia.

"Yes it's a book…" said Emily.

"Why?" asked Alma.

"It's big though, like… three meters tall? Is it a monster?" asked Martina.

"Most likely…" said Maria. "I cannot see any of the other Nightmare Monsters around though, unless they're the vines themselves, that's it. Which to be honest, could be the real reason I feel such a big amount of Nightmares here. But that book is…"

Maria noticed the detector was showing her that the area where the book was standing held multiply little purple dots, dozens of Nightmares were in the book.

"Is each page a Nightmare?" she wondered. "They're much less beast-like and more like normal nightmares though. How did a conventional Nightmare get in here? This is a bit more dangerous than I thought."

Mostly for her friends, not her or Nyx though.

"Hmm, we should proceed with caution then," said Sofia. "Alright, let's attack the vines from afar and see how they react. That book looks dangerous somehow, it's weird… So let's not approach it either."

"Yeah, you're right!" nodded Emily. "Alright, time for some shocking smashing action!"

Emily began charging electricity in her armored fists, beginning to release sparkles of lightning from her hands over time.

"I'll prepare several projectiles!"

Alma at the same time, controlled water, froze it, and shaped it into dozens of frozen spears, which began rotating on their own like drills would do.

"I should prepare something at the very least…"

Sofia's aura expanded lightly, summoning arrows of light floating around her. She could create these simply light projectiles without any issues.

"And now my turn…"

Martina's Jester began spreading some of the fog around the vines to see if they reacted.

But nothing so far.

"Nothing. It looks like they might not be conscious right now or something," she said. "Let's try hitting them first."

"Alright!" Maria nodded, summoning arrows of darkness and black electricity too. "Nyx, what can you do?"

"This!" Nyx formed spears of phantasmal flames.

With everyone ready, a rain of magical projectiles descended upon the entire "garden" of thorny vines, elemental explosions bombarding it constantly.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

As this happened, the thorny vines instantly responded!

"SHYAAAAHHH!"

A massive, ferocious hiss echoed, as the entire thorny vine garden transformed, the book moved around, closing and opening, revealing sharp teeth inside and eyes by the sides.

They were snake-like eyes, and the vines connected to the book, forming a giant snake-like monster made of thorny vines of red and purple color and a book-like head!

"W-What the hell?!" Maria was shocked. "It is a giant monster? But I saw multiple points of Nightmare Energy separately… Does this mean it is composed of many monsters fused together?"

"I don't know but that thing's dangerous!" said Emily. "Everyone, run!"

Everyone quickly began running away, the massive ten-meter-tall book-headed snake rushed towards them, opening its jaws furiously while hissing at them.

"SHYAAAAH!"

As it opened its jaws and revealed the book's interior, Maria noticed something even more shocking.

From it, dozens of scribble-like Nightmares started pouring out, resembling drawings from children fairy tale books.

"Hah, this world's monsters are fucking crazy."

Maria couldn't help but recognize this as a fact.

She stopped running, confronting the incoming army of scribbles and the snake.

"Maria! Wait! You'll die!" Sofia cried.

"Nah, I'd win." Maria smiled.
