Chapter 1105: Business Trip

Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation

Su Li watched as Xu Sheng approached him outside the classroom, a spark of excitement lighting up his face. "Xu Sheng, you’re looking for me? I heard from my brother that you’re in the same class as him. I was planning to find you too, but my brother wouldn’t let me."

Xu Sheng swallowed, realizing that he had probably made a grave mistake by coming to Su Li. It seemed his association with Su Bing had already landed him on some sort of blacklist. But there was no turning back now. He hurriedly asked, "Do you have any memories of your biological father?"

Su Li paused, confusion flashing across his eyes. After a moment, he shrugged and replied, "No memories. My brother always says that the three of us were ’popped out of a rock,’ that we don’t have a father. Hahaha, surprising, isn’t it?"

Xu Sheng’s face twisted in a wry smile as he realized just how wrong his decision had been. He sighed, "That’s... quite unexpected. I should be going now."

He walked away, already regretting his approach. As he left, he couldn’t help but reflect on how quickly Su Li had grown—clearly, all the nutrients meant for his brain had gone straight into his height. Perhaps he should reconsider his strategy.

That evening, after the kids had gone out to play in the yard, Su Shen pulled Gu Zi aside. "The information you asked me to look into is nearly all gathered. In a couple of days, I’ll have the materials sorted and hand them over to you. Also, I found a new house not too far from the school. It seems the area here isn’t very peaceful. How about we move?"

Gu Zi shook her head in disagreement. "That would be too strange. Even if we were to move, it wouldn’t be right now. We’ve already set up the furniture. Moving now would be a waste of time and effort. Besides, I think this house is in a pretty good location. If we leave now, the rumors will just get worse. How will we ever sell a house around here?"

She felt the most important thing right now was to dispel the rumors and protect the value of their home. They couldn’t afford to move now, no matter what.

Su Shen understood, but his unease was palpable. He had only just arrived in the capital, and he felt that their foundation here wasn’t solid yet. He would soon be traveling frequently with Chen Yu for business, sometimes for several days at a time. But seeing that Gu Zi had made up her mind, he could only comply.

"Alright, we’ll do it your way," he said. "I need to head out soon, though. I’ll be gone for two or three days. I’ll have people keep an eye on things here while I’m away. For the next couple of days, you should stay close to home, except for when you go to school."

Gu Zi nodded. "Got it. I’ll be careful. Now, go take a shower, while there’s still time for a bit of extra sleep." She nudged him toward the bedroom, then began sorting through his luggage.

At two in the morning, Su Shen woke up, dressed quickly, and moved to the side of the bed. He gently brushed a stray lock of hair from Gu Zi’s forehead, placing a soft kiss on her pale, beautiful cheek.

Then he quietly moved to their daughter’s room, carefully picking her up and placing her beside Gu Zi, before softly closing the door behind him.

As he passed the rooms of his two sons, he noticed Su Li’s room was empty. A glance at Su Bing’s room confirmed it—Su Li had snuck into his brother’s bed again.

Su Bing was sleeping peacefully, his blanket neatly tucked around him. But Su Li’s sleeping posture was anything but orderly—one foot rested on Su Bing’s stomach, while the blanket lay kicked aside.

Su Shen stood there for a moment, watching. Then, with a sigh, he quietly stepped into the room, gently covering Su Li with the blanket before closing the door behind him.

In the yard, Big Yellow was still awake, patrolling vigilantly. When it saw Su Shen, it trotted over and nudged his leg. Su Shen reached down to scratch the dog’s head, then turned to the gate. Big Yellow followed him, watching its owner leave.

Outside, Chen Yu’s car was already waiting. Su Shen got in, and the car drove off into the night.

The next morning, Gu Zi woke up and instinctively reached for the solid, muscular body that was usually beside her, but her hand only found the soft, round warmth of Lele, their youngest.

A smile crept onto her face as she realized that Su Shen had already left. She gently rubbed Lele’s cheek before tossing the covers aside and getting out of bed.

In the kitchen, Su Bing was preparing breakfast for the family. As Gu Zi walked out of the bathroom, the smell of something delicious filled the air.

Su Bing appeared from the kitchen, carrying a tray of food. "Mom, I made sweet potato porridge, boiled eggs, and corn shrimp cakes. Want to try them and see if my cooking’s improved?"

Gu Zi sat down, took a spoonful of the porridge, and savored it. The rice had bloomed perfectly, and the sweet potato was soft and fragrant. It was rich and sweet, the perfect balance of flavors. The shrimp corn cakes were just as impressive—crispy on the outside, with a savory filling that blended beautifully in her mouth.

She smiled, praising him, "You’re ready to graduate from cooking school!"

Su Bing grinned, pleased with her reaction. "Is Dad still asleep? I’ll go wake him up so he can taste my cooking."

Gu Zi called him back. "Your dad left last night. He won’t be back for a couple of days. You sit down and eat first. Su Li and Lele can have their breakfast when they wake up."
