Rebirth: The unfavored Princess is the Tyrant King's favorite-Chapter 128: This isn’t the cat I treated.
"Your Majesty!"
"One of the cats is showing signs of dying...it’s the cat treated by the princess consort!"
"I’m going to kill whoever did this to the cat and spoil our together," Nicholas cursed under his breath, a deathly aura surrounding him.
The spell was broken and Nicholas took a step away from her. He helped her fix her attire before holding her hand and sending her back to where they had just come from.
His words finally sank in and Luciana watched their intertwined hands and his side profile as they continued to walk and asked,
"Why do you think it was someone’s malicious plot and not my mistake? It could be I’m not as gifted in medicine as Princess Agatha."
"I trust in your capabilities... I know you are an excellent physician," Nicholas said with a voice full of certainty.
Luciana didn’t know why, but his confident words felt like a boost to her nervous heart, and she subtly smiled at him.
They had returned to the entrance of the banquet hall and Luciana saw all eyes on her. She thought it was because of the cat’s issue, but when she saw their ambiguous gazes, she realized they were watching her because she and Nicholas were holding hands.
She hurriedly tried to pull her hand out of his grasp, but he tightly held on, causing Luciana’s eyes to widen. She knew it was just holding hands, but she couldn’t help but worry if it was allowed for him to act like this in public.
She didn’t want the people to gossip about her and say she was the one influencing him to act this way.
"Please let go of my hand, we’re in public," she muttered in a low whisper.
"You are my wife," he deadpanned and Luciana could only give up persuading him.
The empress dowager was too ruffled by the scene in front of her to speak so it was Noble Consort Margaret who decided to speak after seeing the blatant disregard of their presence and the public display of affection between Luciana and Nicholas.
"Princess Consort, what have you done to the cat? The cat you treated is showing signs of dying, and to think when we were all worried, you were having fun and sneaking around with the eldest prince," she said with a hint of reprimand in her voice.
"I was the one who wanted to admire flowers with her and dragged her to the garden," Nicholas said and everyone stared at him in shock.
"Isn’t his change too drastic?"
"What did he just say? He was admiring flowers with the princess consort? Did the cold devil they all knew disappear?"
"Could he be an imposter? How could such an unfeeling person know what "admiring flowers" meant?"
Different thoughts were running through the people’s minds, but Luciana didn’t have time to waste.
"Where is the cat?" She asked straightforwardly and the cats were brought forward.
An hour had passed, and one cat looked healthy, and the other one looked like its body was going stiff. One could see its tummy moving up and down weakly as it breathed—it was dying.
The healthy cat was in a white crib, and when it was fed, it began to eat slowly at first, but soon it began to eat normally.
"This is not the cat I treated, the cat I treated is the healthy one," Luciana said.
"If you’ve lost you should admit defeat and accept punishment. You already said you’d be accountable for your actions, why are you trying to take credit for something you didn’t do," Princess Agatha accused.
"You said my cat is the one on the verge of death but how can we be sure that is my cat? Both cats have the same white fur on their skin and they both have a black dot at the same spot," Luciana asked back.
"My cat was in the white crib, and yours was in the blue crib; everyone saw it. Do you think we are blind?" Princess Agatha said.
"What if you switched the cats to make me take the blame for your failure?" Luciana asked.
"Are you slandering me? Is the princess consort using the fact that the cats look the same to her advantage and trying to get out of this?"
"What if I can prove that the healthy cat is the one I treated?" Luciana said and both Princess Agatha and Noble Consort Margaret’s pupils shrank.
’Could she be bluffing or was it indeed true that she can tell the cats apart?’ Noble Consort Margaret thought.
And then she recalled checking all over the cat’s body to see if they had any differences but saw none and she released the breath she didn’t know she had been holding.
"If the princess consort insists that her cat is the healthy one, she is free to prove it," Noble Consort Margaret said.
"Sure," Luciana said and approached the healthy cat.
She whispered a few words and picked it up as if it was a stuffed cat and the cat demurely lay in her arms as she began to gently stroke the cat like a baby.
Everyone stared at the scene with widened eyes. When the eunuchs and Princess Agatha had tried to approach the cat to feed it food, it had been aggressive and it hissed at them with its hair standing on end in an defensive stance.
They didn’t know the same cat would act so docile when the princess consort carried it.
Luciana then held the jaw of the cat causing its mouth to open.
"Everyone can come and take a look at the tongue of the cat. Tell me, what do you see?" She said,
Everyone’s eyes widened at what they saw, there was a vivid drawing of a white rose on the cat’s pink tongue. The drawing was so bright that it was hard to ignore.
"Before I brought out the bone from the cat’s throat, I had used some clips to keep its mouth ajar. At that time, there was no tattoo of a rose on its tongue, I had only left the tattoo after treatment because I had a feeling some people would try and take credit for my handwork," Luciana said each word one by one.
Princess Agatha’s face paled as she dropped onto her knees like a sack of potatoes.
"Drag the first Princess away to the dungeon, she would be punished accordingly for what she did."
For the first time that night, the emperor finally spoke, but it was to save his favorite daughter from public execution.
"Father Emperor!" Princess Agatha yelled in shock.
’The dungeons? It was just a cat, must he be so extreme?’
"Drag her away!" The emperor commanded, his tone had a hint of finality in it.
"She must apologize to me first!" Luciana declared.
