Rebirth: The New Bride Wants A Divorce-Chapter 594: George was too loyal to Hugo
That night when Collin was shot and his body fell off the cliff. He had thought it was the end.
Cold water swallowed him whole as he plunged into the darkness below, his body sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss. The pressure crushed against him, stealing his breath, dragging him toward death.
And then something shifted. It wasn’t just darkness anymore.
Memories surged through him. Fragments at first... broken... scattered.
But then clearer. Sharper.
A life that didn’t belong to this one. And yet— it felt familiar.
Too familiar.
Collin had seen it all.
A different past. A different sequence of events. But the same emotions.
Hatred, desperation....revenge.
Back then... just like now... he had wanted to destroy everything that had once made him feel powerless.
And Norma—she had been there, helping him, trusting him and standing beside him just like she had in this life.
A low chuckle escaped his lips as the memory settled.
"But in the end..." he murmured, almost to himself, "...I used her too."
His eyes darkened.
Collin had used everyone. Every single one of them, until there was nothing left. Not even lives. Not even mercy.
He had become the very reason everything collapsed.
The reason blood was spilled.
The reason no one survived.
And at the end of it all— he had finally gotten what he wanted.
Revenge.
For the misery he had suffered at the hands of the Bennett family.
"Did you remember?" his voice cut through the silence, pulling Kathrine back to the present.
She froze.
Her mind was still reeling, trying to piece everything together. Because in her memories the man who had killed her... his face had been hidden.
Blurred.
But now— now that she looked at him properly, her gaze instinctively shifted to his face. And then—
She saw it. The scar.
The same scar, the one she had overlooked. The one that now made everything fall into place.
Her breath hitched.
’It was him.’
The realization struck her like a slap across the face.
Her pupils trembled as dread filled her eyes.
"You... now do," Collin said, throwing his head back as a laugh escaped him.
It was twisted and terrifying.
He enjoyed watching her break. Because for the first time someone else was feeling the fear he once had.
But things were different now.
Roseline was gone. Hugo was lying in a coma. And the only person left— the only person he needed to face— was her.
’Kathrine.’
Collin didn’t hate her personally. Not really. But she was part of it. A piece of the past. A piece of the story that refused to let him feel at peace.
"You look exactly the same," he said, leaning forward slightly, his eyes scanning her face.
"Just like that day."
Kathrine’s lips trembled.
"Helpless," he continued. "Afraid."
His smirk deepened. "And most importantly... innocent."
A tear slipped down her cheek.
"You were innocent," he admitted, almost casually. "Not someone we originally planned to use."
His gaze darkened slightly. "But we did."
"Because you..." he tilted his head, watching her reaction carefully, "...were supposed to be our way out."
"Our escape from all the misery."
Kathrine’s breathing turned uneven.
"Through you, we thought we could fix everything," he continued. "End all our problems."
A pause followed as his expression hardened.
"But then... George showed up." his voice dropped, irritation laced beneath it.
Collin’s mind briefly replayed that moment— Roseline’s panicked call.
Her voice trembling as she told him George had confronted her.
She had been scared. Desperate. And she had revealed everything. Including where Kathrine was being held.
Collin had a chance to run then. To stop everything. But he didn’t.
He was too close to finally escaping the life he hated.
Hugo had already transferred the money. Everything was falling into place. Except— George.
"He should have gone to Hugo," Collin muttered with a faint scoff. "But no... he came straight to me."
A fatal mistake and Collin took advantage of it.
"That’s when I came up with a better plan." his gaze slowly shifted back to Kathrine.
"And you..." he said softly, almost mockingly, "...were the key to it."
Kathrine shook her head weakly, tears pooling in her eyes.
"No..."
But Collin only smiled.
"You were already terrified," he continued. "Broken from the kidnapping."
His voice lowered. "So I used that."
Her body stiffened.
"I threatened you," he said plainly. "Your life. George’s life."
Kathrine’s lips parted slightly as the memory resurfaced.
"And you agreed," he added with a quiet chuckle.
"Like a good little girl."
Her tears fell faster now. But Collin didn’t stop.
"After that..." he continued, "all you had to do was blame George."
His eyes gleamed. "And Roseline?"
"She handled the rest."
Piece by piece. Lie by lie she twisted everything, manipulated every lead. Until the truth didn’t matter anymore.
Even if George tried to fight— tried to explain— no one would listen.
Because the evidence all pointed to him.
"Hugo loved you," Collin said, his tone almost thoughtful. "More than anything."
"And when he realized someone close to him had betrayed him..."
A cold smile appeared.
"He destroyed them."
Kathrine’s hands trembled violently.
"Roseline made sure of it," Collin added. "From ruining George’s family..."
"To making sure..." his eyes locked onto hers. "...that you forgot everything that day."
Silence fell. Heavy. Suffocating. And in that silence, the truth finally settled. Not just what had happened. But what she had unknowingly become a part of.
And for the first time Kathrine realized...
The real horror wasn’t just Collin. It was the past she had been forced to forget.
"George was too loyal to Hugo... and that loyalty became his downfall," Collin said coldly. "The moment he discovered what we had done to you—how deeply it had scarred you—he sealed his fate."
This was the last straw of Kathrine guilt that broke in the end realize that George sacrificed himself by accepting the crime he never done.
"You will pay for this Collin"
