Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s-Chapter 1603 - 1605: Are You Sick?
Chapter 1603: Chapter 1605: Are You Sick?
"Are you feeling tired? Nauseous? Did you eat something bad during lunch? Let me help you to a nearby clinic to check it out." Chiang Songhai said, looking a little worried.
Ge Liutao quickly responded, "No, no, I’m fine now. No need to go."
"No, I feel like something’s been off with you lately. You’ve been unusually sleepy in the mornings these past few days. I can hardly wake you up anymore."
Ge Liutao’s face turned red.
"Uncle Hai, are you calling me lazy?"
"No, no, not at all. How could I? Ah Tao, you’ve been married to me for so many years, and you’ve never been lazy. You’ve always managed everything for our family so diligently. You work so hard for us."
Chiang Songhai patted Ge Liutao’s hand.
"It’s just that you’ve always been someone who wakes up early and never stays in bed, even when I tell you to sleep in a little more. But these last few days, you’ve been struggling to get up. It’s better to get checked out."
"I’ll go another day, it’s nothing serious." Ge Liutao still shook her head. "Didn’t you say we had an important guest? I was just thinking of cleaning up this pot before heading out. Who is the guest?"
Chiang Songhai explained about Cheng Cheng, and Ge Liutao responded, "Oh, we can’t just let Xinian drive him away like that. What if he gets upset and complains to the Alliance Officer? What would we do then? Uncle Hai, why don’t you go entertain the guest? I’ll make some sweet glutinous rice balls to serve. Let’s keep him for dinner tonight."
"Sounds good to me."
Cheng Cheng stayed as he wished, no matter how much Meng Xinian couldn’t stand him. He latched onto Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao like glue.
Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao knew Meng Xinian had a bit of a bad temper but still treated Cheng Cheng with proper hospitality since he was Xinian’s comrade.
Moreover, Cheng Cheng addressed them affectionately as Grandpa Chiang and Grandma Chiang, with an attitude that seemed warm and close. Simple-hearted as they were, they thought Cheng Cheng wasn’t a bad person.
Eventually, the conversation turned jovial between Cheng Cheng and the couple. Meng Xinian, who was typically quiet, ate swiftly and left the dining table after finishing his meal.
As he looked back at Cheng Cheng, who was still chatting and laughing with the elderly couple at the table, Meng Xinian maintained a blank expression as he prepared to take a walk in the courtyard.
At that moment, the phone rang.
Chiang Xiao hadn’t expected Meng Xinian to be home.
"Brother Xinian, you’re here?"
"Yeah, just had dinner. Grandpa and Grandma are still eating. How about you?"
Upon hearing Chiang Xiao’s voice, Meng Xinian’s expression softened immediately.
From where Cheng Cheng was sitting, he noticed the change in Meng Xinian’s demeanor all too clearly.
The person on the other end was undoubtedly Chiang Xiao.
He immediately set down his bowl and said to Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao, "I have something important to discuss with Chiang Xiao. Grandpa Chiang, could you please tell her to speak with me after the call?"
"Well..." Chiang Songhai hesitated.
His rightful grandson-in-law was present.
Seeing his hesitation, Cheng Cheng understood that Meng Xinian must be overly possessive. Otherwise, why would there even be a moment of doubt?
"How about this—I’ll go talk to Great Officer Meng myself."
He stood up and started walking over, but just then, Ge Liutao suddenly turned pale, bent over, and retched forcefully, vomiting all over the floor.
"Ah Tao! What’s wrong?" Chiang Songhai exclaimed, leaping to his feet and rushing over to support her.
Chu Liang also immediately stood up.
While still on the phone with Chiang Xiao, Meng Xinian heard the commotion and said, "Grandma suddenly started vomiting. I need to go check on her."
Chiang Xiao grew anxious on the other end of the call, "What happened? Why would she suddenly start vomiting like that? Go and check right away!"
