Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s-Chapter 1573 - 1575: Car Accident
Chapter 1573: Chapter 1575: Car Accident
Chiang Xiao didn’t get the call.
It was Chiang Songhai who answered it. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Chiang Songhai recognized Chen Yin and knew he was a childhood friend of Meng Xinian. Upon hearing that something happened to him, he didn’t dare delay and immediately called the Huo family.
Before Chiang Xiao took the call, Chu Liang was telling them about Huo Xiugu.
Huo Xiugu had a very brief marriage and a tragic life. Back in the day, in a blind wedding arrangement, she had just gotten married when, before the wedding night, her drunken husband fell into a septic pit and drowned.
The husband’s family insisted she was bad luck and beat her half to death. If Uncle Huo hadn’t acted tough and gathered a group to rescue her, Huo Xiugu would have died there.
After that, no one dared to marry Huo Xiugu, and her life dragged on in limbo. She thought her entire life would just pass by like that, but unexpectedly, she found mutual affection with Chu Liang.
Though Chu Liang didn’t mind the bad luck rumors about her, Xiugu felt Chu Liang was too good of a person and didn’t want to burden him. Somehow, this matter got put on hold and never came to fruition.
Nevertheless, the Huo family felt Chu Liang was a really honest man. Even though they couldn’t form an alliance through marriage, they treated him as extended family.
Chiang Xiao saw that, despite things not working out between Chu Liang and Xiugu, his mood seemed fine. She hadn’t yet thought of a way to console him before Aunt Ah Yu called her to take the phone.
"It’s from your grandfather. It seems urgent."
Hearing it was urgent, Chiang Xiao felt her heart skip a beat, afraid that Kuang Kanzhi and Chiang Qingzhu had returned. She immediately rushed to answer the phone.
Wang Yi, feeling uneasy, followed behind her to the door. Just as she reached the door, she heard Chiang Xiao’s voice:
"Chen Yin got hit by a car?"
Wang Yi’s heart sank as if a giant hammer had struck her hard. Her face instantly went pale.
After listening to the call, Chiang Xiao turned and saw her. She quickly said, "Grandpa doesn’t know the details. He said it was Grandpa Meng who called to tell him. I’ll call the Meng family now to find out more."
Wang Yi bit her lower lip and nodded.
Old Meng was waiting by the phone. As soon as it rang, he reached for it eagerly, but someone else’s hand moved even faster—a lightning-quick grab to answer the phone before him.
Old Meng stared at his son in disbelief.
"Hello?"
"Alliance Officer Meng?"
When Meng Chaojun heard Chiang Xiao address him like that, his heart sank. He said seriously, "I’m not an alliance officer anymore."
"Mr. Meng." Chiang Xiao immediately corrected herself, not in the mood for niceties. "Is Grandpa Meng there? Please have him take the call."
Meng Chaojun’s face darkened. He pressed his lips tightly and handed the receiver to Old Meng.
Old Meng: "..."
This call was meant for him anyway. What was the point of snatching the phone like that?
Nonetheless, he quickly pushed Meng Chaojun aside.
"Little, are you not at home?"
"No. Grandpa Meng, how did you know I’m in M City?"
"I called your teacher. Your teacher said you’ve recently taken leave and returned. Is everything okay at home?"
"Nothing’s wrong." Chiang Xiao didn’t want to bring up the issue with Chiang Qingzhu—there was no need. "What happened with Chen Yin? Is he still in the hospital? Is his injury serious?"
Wang Yi was standing right next to her, gripping her arm tightly in nervousness. She didn’t have the mind to chat more with Old Meng.
"Yes, he got hit by a car. It seems he was hit in the chest and then fell, hitting his head. He’s already undergone surgery but hasn’t regained consciousness yet. The doctor told his mother not to worry too much—there’s likely no danger to his life. But they’ll still need to observe him after he wakes up to check for concussion symptoms or anything else."
