Rebirth: Pampered by My Children and Husband-Chapter 88 - Welcome Back
Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Welcome Back
Ji Zeqiu embraced her body, his arms strong and firm as if wanting to embed her into his chest, never to part again.
His eyes captive with tears, his voice choked with a hoarse whisper, he was finally able to voice the unrealistic hope and illusion he had harbored for years, “Welcome back.”
Ji Zeqiu lay on her shoulder, quietly crying for a long time, his shoulders quivering, wetting the clothes on her shoulder.
After a while, the night grew dense.
Ji Zeqiu lay in bed, the blanket almost covering his entire cheek, leaving only his swollen eyes visible, staring at Lin Xu, unwilling to close his eyes.
Lin Xu looked at his hand holding hers firmly and couldn’t help but laugh and cry, “I’m just going back to my room to sleep, I won’t disappear.”
Ji Zeqiu hesitated for a moment, and then, his ears red, he whispered softly after a long pause, “…you sleep here.”
Lin Xu laughed lightly, teasingly said, “You’re all grown up, and you still want Mom to sleep with you?”
“That’s not it!” The redness on his ears spread to his cheeks, Ji Zeqiu’s face almost completely red, he stammered, “I mean, you sleep on the bed, I’ll go to the sofa…”
But if his mother wanted to sleep with him, it wouldn’t be a problem.
Ji Zeqiu’s eyes flickered, muttering in his heart.
Knowing his unease, Lin Xu just smiled and went along with him, “Alright, then get up.”
Ji Zeqiu suddenly sat up, his movements very brisk.
Knowing Lin Xu had difficulty moving, he considerately lifted her onto the bed and tucked her in under the blanket.
Then he scampered off to the sofa and happily closed his eyes.
After two minutes, he opened his eyes to look at the bed. After seeing Lin Xu’s figure, he closed his eyes again, reassured.
However, he opened his eyes again after less than two minutes, wanting to confirm Lin Xu’s presence.
Feeling the frequent gazes falling on her, Lin Xu helplessly said, “Don’t worry, I’m right here.”
Thankfully the darkness hid the embarrassment on Ji Zeqiu’s cheeks, “I was just checking if the door was closed, I wasn’t looking at you.”
“So you weren’t looking at me huh, I’m a bit sad, what should I do?” Lin Xu’s sigh sounded exceptionally clear in the quiet room.
Ji Zeqiu suddenly became nervous, even sitting up a bit more on the sofa, his tone rigid as he tried to comfort her, “I was actually looking at you just now, don’t be sad.”
“Pfft”.
Lin Xu’s crisp laughter rang out from the bed, her body shaking with laughter.
Ji Zeqiu then realized she was just teasing him. Now even his neck turned red, he huffily faced Lin Xu and hemmed and hawed for a long time without being able to utter a serious word.
In the end, he could only lie back on the sofa angrily, the blanket pulled over his head, forming a high mound, hiding in the cocoon, irritated and embarrassed.
Lin Xu even felt the urge to lift the blanket over him, wanting to see if he was still like when he was little, with his hands covering his cheeks lying on the sofa, his butt stuck up high.
But considering her injured foot, she had to let go of that thought.
“Alright, alright, I won’t tease you anymore, pull your head out, otherwise you’ll struggle to breathe.” Lin Xu said with a laugh, yet Ji Zeqiu remained unmoved.
This bit of temper was just like when he was a child.
After Lin Xu’s teasing, Ji Zeqiu dared not look at her anymore, his head hiding in the blanket, and he drifted off to sleep unknowingly.
In his dream,
it was still that dark room.
Ji Zeqiu curled up in the corner, his head buried between his arms, his eyes peering through the gap toward the door, hoping for something.
After a while, the same graceful figure in a skirt came in, extending her hand toward him with a gentle smile on her lips, “Mom is here to take you home…”
He hesitated for a moment, finally mustered up the courage, and lifted his head to look at her.
What he saw was no longer a blurry face, but Lin Xu’s face brimming with a smile.
Sunlight poured in from the window, driving away the darkness and loneliness in the room; the incandescent light pierced his eyes.
Ji Zeqiu frowned, extended his arm in front of his eyes to block the glare, and opened his eyes in a blurred state.
He was groggy, as if he had not fully awakened from a dream, looking around in confusion.
It wasn’t until he saw the empty large bed that his heart suddenly startled, then he came to his senses, quickly got up from the sofa, and rushed out without even having time to put on his shoes.
Ji Zeqiu’s face turned pale, his heartbeat grew faster with anxiety, and his palms sweated nervously as he continued to search for Lin Xu in the villa.
He began to fear that everything yesterday had been an illusion.
Not until he saw Lin Xu in the living room did his tense body finally relax.
“What’s the matter, running so fast without even wearing shoes?” Lin Xu, noticing the breathless Ji Zeqiu, was surprised and quickly wheeled the chair over.
A cool palm brought a warm sensation; Ji Zeqiu instinctively tightened his grip on her small hand, feeling her temperature, only then truly sensing that his mother was really there.
“I, I… was just too hungry and wanted to find something to eat.” He guiltily darted his eyes around.
Ji Tingyang, not far away, saw through him unmercifully, “He was worried you disappeared, right?”
It must be said, there are indeed some similarities between brothers.
Not long ago, Ji Tingyang had felt this same unease.
“I was just about to tell Zeqiu,” Lin Xu annoyed, glared at Ji Tingyang.
When she woke up, Ji Zeqiu was still in a deep sleep, sleeping more peacefully than usual; it was nearly ten o’clock and there was no sign of him waking up.
Lin Xu hesitated whether to wake him so they could go downstairs to eat together, when Ji Tingyang entered the room and imperiously took her downstairs.
“It’s just at home, what’s there to say,” Ji Tingyang said unconcernedly.
Ji Zeqiu had monopolized his mother all night yesterday; if not for his mother’s sake, he would have gone over to take her back last night.
Ji Zeqiu glared at Ji Tingyang through gritted teeth.
It was this bastard again!
His teeth itched with anger, and even during lunch, he glared fiercely at Ji Tingyang; his sharp gaze was like blades, wishing to cut him a thousand times.
Ji Tingyang was very calm, unmoved.
Only unintentionally touching the cracked wound at the corner of his lip, he winced in pain, distorting his face.
Lin Xu, frightened, immediately put down her chopsticks, and anxiously held his cheek to check the wound, “Why weren’t you careful while eating? Does it hurt? Should I get some ointment for you?”
“Okay,” Ji Tingyang subtly rubbed her palm, responding softly.
As Lin Xu bent down to look for the ointment, he held her small hand in his; beneath his dark pupils flickered a victorious spark; his thin lips curled into a slight smile.
Ji Zeqiu watched, dumbfounded.
Ji Tingyang had previously endured bone fractures without changing his expression, and now he was just punched a few times; how could it possibly hurt enough to grimace.
This bastard!
He was actually pretending to be in pain in front of their mother.
