Rebirth: Love in the Apocalypse-Chapter 164: Base Meeting 1
The meeting was not held in the usual conference hall. Instead, it was held in a newly built throne room.
The room was five hundred square metres.
It had white walls with gold accents, a white-tiled floor, a pale gold ornate chair at the front, a red carpet leading to the chair, and two rows of seats on each side.
’I didn’t expect them to take the concept of an imperial government so far.’ Qin Wu thought, and a trace of unease flashed in her eyes.
Seeing the current setup, she couldn’t help but wonder if they were progressing or regressing.
That said, she felt that if they played the wrong cards, they would accidentally re-establish the imperial system that their ancestors had worked so hard to abolish.
’We’d better be careful.’ She thought and exchanged a glance with Mo Chenxuan before they found their seats.
Their seats were the eighth on the left side.
As the leader, Mo Chenxuan had the front seat while Qin Wu had the back one.
After sitting, the two began looking around.
From what they could surmise, the seats on the left side belonged to the territory leaders and their deputies, while those on the right belonged to the ministers and their deputies.
At this time, the seats on the right were filled, but a few territory lords had yet to arrive.
Seeing this, Qin Wu tugged Mo Chenxuan’s sleeve, and the man raised an eyebrow before establishing a connection with his spiritual ability.
[What’s the matter?] He asked.
[Do you think they are intentionally late?] Qin Wu asked, and Mo Chenxuan nodded before answering.
[The late parties are the Fang family, the Wei family, and the Xuanyuan family.] The man stated, and Qin Wu understood.
Because Xuanyuan Qi was the base leader, his Xuanyuan family was largely acknowledged as the leading power in the base.
This caused a superiority complex among the Xuanyuan family members, and they often felt the need to remind everyone else that they stood a step higher.
As for the Fang and Wei families, the Fang family had control of the research institute and felt superior to everyone else, while the Wei family was closely related to the Xuanyuan family.
Most importantly, the Wei family had lofty ambitions, and they never liked to stand in the same place as everyone else.
[The Wei family is pushing things.] Qin Wu said.
[It’s relying on Xuanyuan Qi’s indulgence, but this situation may not last for much longer.]
[You think they will fall out?]
[The situation was established because Xuanyuan Yi was the strongest ability user in the base, and he had always favoured his maternal family. However, Xuanyuan Yi is no longer the strongest. Most importantly, the base has become more organised. It won’t be as easy as it previously was for a single family to cover the sky with one hand.] Mo Chenxuan explained.
[You are right.] Qin Wu nodded and continued to look around.
[I didn’t expect Xuanyuan Qi to appoint Chu Jianfeng as the Minister of War.] She said.
[It’s a smart choice.] Mo Chenxuan said with a trace of admiration in his voice.
Although the Chu family was ambitious, Chu Jianfeng was conscientious. Because of this, he would never compromise the base’s safety for personal gain.
Additionally, he had a military background and was qualified to take charge of the base’s army.
[I think so too.] Qin Wu sighed before continuing.
[His appointment freed up the Lord’s seat for Chu Wan’er.] She said, but narrowed her eyes when she saw the person sitting in the back seat.
[I thought the Chu family would appoint a family member to be the deputy. Why did they choose Leng Han?] She wondered.
[Two reasons.] Mo Chenxuan said and quickly continued.
[First, Chu Wan’er controls the family’s supplies. The clan wouldn’t dare to object if she chose Leng Han to be her deputy.]
[Makes sense.] Qin Wu nodded.
[Second, most members of the Chu faction aren’t blood-related relatives. Considering that, it’s a logical move to appoint a non-relative as the deputy lord. This move not only raises a powerful ability user but also stabilises the faction.] Mo Chenxuan said, and Qin Wu sighed.
[I am suddenly grateful that we don’t belong to a powerful family or alliance. Dealing with leadership politics would be too tiring.] She said.
[We have absolute say in our territory, but we still have to deal with the base’s politics.] Mo Chenxuan reminded.
[I know.]
Soon after, the remaining people arrived, and everyone took their seats.
Having attended many base meetings, Qin Wu recognised all the people present.
On the king’s throne was Xuanyuan Qi.
Starting from the first seat on the left, the Xuanyuan family was represented by Xuanyuan Yi as the lord and Xuanyuan Lie as the deputy.
Similarly, the Chu family had Chu Wan’er and Leng Han, the Fang family had Fang Jue and Fang Shuangshuang, the Wei family had Wei Hong and Wei Shanhe, the Qin family had Qin Feng and Guan Ping, the Seven Clans Alliance had Xu Daquan and Shentu Jue, the Superpower Guild had Lei Jing and Lu Meng, while the Human Alliance had Wu Fan and Zhao Lijuan.
As for the ministers, Chu Jianfeng was the Minister of War, Fang Chongtian was the Minister of Research, Qin Fu was the Minister of Works, Wei Canghao was the Minister of Personnel, Xuanyuan Ran was the Minister of Justice, and Yang Qiming was the Minister of Finance.
Of the six ministers, Xuanyuan Ran and Yang Qiming were famously loyal to Xuanyuan Qi. While Chu Jianfeng was technically not loyal to Xuanyuan Qi, he was conscientious and could be counted on to do the right thing.
As for Qin Fu, he swayed with the wind and would side with whomever offered the most benefits.
Overall, the cabinet of six was slightly favourable to Xuanyuan Qi and would likely not cause major problems for him.
Seeing that everybody was seated, Xie Ya, Xuanyuan Qi’s chief aide, stepped forward.
"First is to congratulate everyone for expanding the base and successfully establishing the territories." She said, and everyone clapped.
After the clapping stopped, Xie Ya pointed at a wooden box and continued.
"Please submit the folders containing your territory documents, including emblem, list of leaders, and population details." She said and waited for the folders to be put in the box before continuing.
"We originally planned to review the documents during this meeting, but that will have to wait. Some of you may know this, but for those who don’t, our situation has taken a sudden turn for the worse." She started with a solemn expression.
