Chapter 678: Chapter 678: Return to H City

In H province base, Guan Shouzhong and others finally sighed in relief when they saw Lu Hao and Su Jin’s group return safe and sound.

This last and farthest granary took the family a full six days to return from, which had everyone extremely worried.

"We were almost worried to death, San Jin even said he was going to take people out to look for you,"

Tian Yongyi was so joyous he was close to crying, wishing they had gone with them knowing it would take this long.

"Come on, we’ve been traveling all around for a whole year without any issues, and you all get this worried over just a few days?"

Lin Xiuyuan had become quite familiar with everyone, so he spoke very casually.

"Spending the nights outside is indeed more dangerous; you all have worked hard,"

Guan Shouzhong looked at Su Jin with a complex expression; his sister-in-law was already five months pregnant and still braving the elements with the family every evening. He really hadn’t taken good care of them. Lately, the base had taken in quite a lot of Crystal Cores. Maybe he should just give them all to Lu Hao and his team!

Especially when he saw the base warehouse stuffed to the brim, Guan Shouzhong was even more resolute in his decision.

All these goods were provided by this family, so even if they gave all the Crystal Cores from the base to Lu Hao and his team, it was only fair and reasonable.

"Sure, it’s not like you guys have much use for Crystal Cores anyway,"

Lu Hao raised an eyebrow and agreed, knowing full well how profitable a base could be. Even if they took all the Crystal Cores from these days, the base would be able to regain its working capital in a few days anyway.

"Alright then, as long as you’re willing to accept them, it’ll make me feel a lot better," freeweɓnovel.cøm

Guan Shouzhong was also happy to give them away. Now that they had the supplies, the ordinary Crystal Cores indeed had little use for the base. In the future, apart from the Crystal Cores used for base mission bonuses and purchases from Dragon Ruler, he could save them all for the Heart Talk Team.

That evening, the three of them once again had a hearty drink with the family, and the meal was prepared by the Heart Talk Team – a spread even more delicious than the dishes before the Apocalypse, satisfying them immensely.

"Captain Lu, this is a video we three recorded; please take it back and show it to Xiao Tian and the others,"

Xiang San Jin said with teary eyes.

In an Apocalypse without relatives, these former comrades who had suffered together became exceptionally precious. It would be wonderful if they could all be in the same base.

"Sure, don’t worry. If there’s a chance, I can bring them here to see you guys too. If you ever get tired of this, just head over to the S City base and look for the Heart Talk Team,"

Lu Hao said jokingly. To tell the truth, he also hated all kinds of separations, which was why he always stayed together with his family, but some partings were inevitable.

"Yeah, if Xiao Tian and the others knew you’re all alive, they would surely be delighted,"

Huang Yunxiang comforted the group of men.

They planned to establish a Teleportation Array here in H province, which would make future visits more convenient, but these people didn’t know that, if relying solely on vehicles, it was indeed a long way from S City base to here.

"Humanity will only grow stronger in the face of the Zombie Virus, and I believe one day we will have the day when we conquer it. When communications and transportation are restored, distance won’t be an issue anymore,"

Su Jin spoke with hope. The development of new energy, and the fact that there were already people exploring the origins of the Zombie Virus, were both very good beginnings. She also believed that humanity would eventually triumph over this Apocalypse.

"That’s also true, right, those teams of scientists we were told to take good care of continued their journey today," said Guan Shouzhong while nibbling on what was supposedly the celery quickened by Su Jin.

"It seems their companions have recovered too, that’s good."

Lu Guanhai also felt relieved, as he had seen Chang Xuan and a few others having a dispute when he was strolling around the base. He didn’t intervene, instead informing Guan Shouzhong through Lu Hao and asked him to lend a hand in the name of the base.

Guan Shouzhong thought those few had helped the Heart Talk Team in the past, so he didn’t dare neglect them.

Upon learning that Chang Xuan and his group were deceived and had their supplies stolen, he sent people to retrieve the stolen goods and severely punished the thugs. Chang Xuan and his group were immensely grateful and rested for a few more days at the base before setting off again.

Throughout the dinner, everyone enjoyed themselves to the fullest.

Despite feeling heartache over the departure of the family the next day, they took courage from knowing that their former leader, Captain Lu, was still battling in the Apocalypse, filling them with bravery for the road ahead.

At least, they now had something to look forward to.

The following day, when the three of them went to say hello in the side courtyard as usual, they were surprised to find that the family had already left.

In the main hall of the side courtyard, there was an array of prepared foods left behind by the family, including several pots of marinated eggs and salted duck eggs, and boxes stuffed with flatbreads and braised meat. There were also sticky notes with heartfelt tips, instructing them to store the food in the refrigerator to enjoy slowly.

Tian Yongyi wiped away tears and laughed, saying, "It’s better that they left like this. Captain Lu must have been afraid we’d find it too hard to let them go if we had to see them off."

"Yeah, and they left us with so much food too, it’s really too..."

Xiang Sanjin added, admitting that these days they had been well cared for by the family. Huang Yunxiang often brought them food, and Su Jin had given them a washing machine, saving them from the most troublesome chore: doing laundry.

"Alright, both of you stop crying, let’s get to work. Seems like Captain Lu and his team quite like the Crystal Cores," said Guan Shouzhong, standing between the two with a hand on each of their shoulders.

Now that they had a whole warehouse of supplies, not developing the base would be a letdown to all that Captain Lu and his team had done for them.

...

After leaving Guan Shouzhong’s base, the family did not immediately enter the Space but instead took the old road towards their hometown, H City.

The primary concern was the location for activating the new Teleportation Array.

The base belonged to Guan Shouzhong, and while they could have requested their own residence there, they were not comfortable with suddenly appearing inside the base. After discussing it as a family, they decided to set up the Teleportation Array at the home of the grandparents outside H City.

In Li Xiuying’s words, that place would always be their spot. Even if the Apocalypse ended, it would still be their home. Having the Teleportation Array there would be close to the base and safe, and since H City was a Dead City, it was unlikely anyone would appear there.

Nie Qing also agreed that there wouldn’t be any signs of the Teleportation Array after installation; it would only emit a faint Formation light when they emerged from it. Setting it up at their old home would indeed be safe.

"Hehe, does this mean we can go home whenever we want?"

Lin Xiuyuan said, deciding that once they returned, they should spruce up their old home again, at least cleaning off the big turtle from the front gate.
