Chapter 42 -42: The Large Lair
Han Yi lay halfway sunk into the couch with his eyes closed, slowly saying, “She only knows the general idea and not the specific ways to use it. I think I will try it after I have fully recovered.”
Lu Changyuan nodded gently, “That’s better, lest there be any slip-ups.”
After a pause, Lu Changyuan added, “The little girl’s dream is quite inconceivable. Now that everything is unknown, do you have a way to go in and take a look?”
Go in and take a look?
Han Yi opened his eyes, his deep, unfathomable pupils looking towards Lu Changyuan.
Lu Changyuan’s expression remained tranquil, “Haven’t you been into her dream before? In theory, your Ability should be much more formidable than before. Perhaps you might see something.”
A thought stirred in Han Yi’s heart, but his face showed a hint of bitterness.
“Now that your relationship is harmonious, I think she wouldn’t mind,” he mused.
Han Yi didn’t speak, but closed his eyes again. Seeing his expression, Lu Changyuan assumed he had taken the matter to heart and didn’t pursue it further. After all, it was a matter between the siblings, and he trusted Han Yi to handle it well.
…….
With several men at home with hearty appetites, cooking individual dishes was clearly too slow. Han Jiaojiao tore open a packet of hotpot ingredients, preparing to make a hotpot. This was both quick and convenient; she only needed to prepare the ingredients thoroughly.
Once everything was ready, Xiao Jian, Yan Xiao, and Bai Kairui returned as expected.
They hadn’t discovered anything, as the village was completely deserted.
“They ran off, right?” This was Yan Xiao’s guess.
But, where could several hundred villagers have run off to?
Lu Changyuan appeared quite shocked, “You’ve searched everywhere?”
Xiao Jian nodded, “We searched many houses — all were empty. There was a lot of blood in the streets, but no bodies.”
Bai Kairui’s gaze was intense as he looked towards Han Yi, saying with some expectation, “It’s still up to Brother Han’s Ability.”
Han Jiaojiao hung her head without speaking, peeling a boiled shrimp intently. Yet, she was thinking — perhaps the bodies were taken away by the Alien Species?
Han Jiaojiao placed the peeled shrimp into Han Yi’s bowl.
Han Yi’s expression was consistently aloof, only a faint, barely noticeable smile playing at the corner of his mouth. He watched his sister’s busy hands and said softly, “These next few days, let’s check all the possible nesting sites nearby.”
Lu Changyuan, seated on the other side of the dining table, continued Han Yi’s thought, “Let’s start with the golf course. The clubhouse there is quite large.”
Han Yi narrowed his eyes in thought, perhaps using his Ability or maybe just briefly reflecting. Moments later, he said, “We’ll head out tomorrow at noon.”
Everyone was slightly taken aback.
Though surprised, everyone was accustomed to following Han Yi’s commands. Moreover, a moment’s thought made it clear that the situation was urgent. If the nearby nests were not cleared out, the number of Alien Species in the residential area would only increase, as would their hunting range.
When it was time to rest at night, for the first time, Han Yi didn’t tease Han Jiaojiao but fell asleep directly. Usually, he would bother her for a while and then coax her to sleep before he would go to sleep. However, tonight, after her night watch, Han Jiaojiao entered the room to find Han Yi had already fallen asleep, leaning against the headboard.
He was clearly waiting for her.
Looking at him, Han Jiaojiao couldn’t help feeling heartache. Her brother must be exhausted…
She gently climbed into bed beside him, carefully covering both of them with the blanket. Han Yi’s hand, as usual, reached out and encircled her waist. Without opening his eyes, he whispered, “Sleep now.”
Han Jiaojiao closed her eyes, hoping everything would go smoothly the next day.
…
The next day, a group of people set off toward the golf course. It was everyone’s first time going out together, and the mood was good.
Xiao Jian drove the car near the destination and stopped. Looking from inside the car, the golf course was in full view and nothing seemed amiss, but the interior of the clubhouse was unknown.
Through his Mental Search, Han Yi could clearly see the structure inside the building and the distribution of the Alien Species. He took out a pen and paper, roughly sketched a floor plan of the golf clubhouse, marked several signs, then formulated an action plan with Lu Changyuan.
“There are about one hundred and sixty, most gathered in the level one basement public entertainment area, a few Alien Species in the dining area on the first floor and the rooms on the second floor. The third floor is safe, the fourth floor is safe…”
The number of Alien Species, under two hundred, seemed to Han Jiaojiao to be just a small nest. However, since this was the early stage of the apocalyptic world and the Superpower Users were not yet strong, a nest of this size was still quite tricky.
Bai Kairui was the first to set off, his task was to sneak into the clubhouse to place explosives and gasoline, while others would enter from a hotel on the other side of the clubhouse.
The hotel and the clubhouse were two separate buildings, connected in the middle of the second floor by a glass sky bridge. Their plan was to first clear out the Alien Species in the hotel rooms, then directly enter the clubhouse from the sky bridge. The leisure area on the second floor of the clubhouse overlooked the dining area on the first floor. They would stand above and open fire, killing the Alien Species in the dining area, and also luring out those from the basement level. Explosives were placed at every entrance to the stairs, surrounded by gasoline—not to kill all, but a significant majority was definitely feasible.
The sun blazed down, although it was already November, the weather felt like the height of summer. At this moment, at noon, the Alien Species were sound asleep.
Han Yi’s group silently entered the hotel.
Han Jiaojiao followed closely behind Han Yi. As soon as she entered the main door, that familiar putrid smell hit her.
The interior of the hotel was dimly lit, the once-clear glass windows were now covered with layers of muddy, filthy substances, as were the walls and floors. These nauseating, gooey substances blocked out the sunlight while emitting a foul stench.
In the days to come, they would learn that this filth was the vomit of the Alien Species. When the Alien Species chose a location for their nest, they would smear their vomit all around, layer by layer, sealing off the outside light and heat.
This meant that the nest was not yet complete.
Everyone looked unwell as the air was damp and stifling, and there was a slightly sticky sensation underfoot.
Han Yi led the way and after reaching the last step to the second floor, he swiftly turned left and fired a shot! Despite the silencer, in this unusually quiet environment, even a small sound was amplified several times.
A heavy object hit the floor with a dull sound. Han Yi quietly waited a moment, making sure the other Alien Species had not awakened, then he signaled to the people behind him, and they swarmed forward.
The second-floor guest rooms housed only ten Alien Species, scattered in pairs across different rooms and all sound asleep. They were cleared out almost effortlessly.
Then, Han Yi led them to the entrance of the second-floor glass sky bridge. Xiao Jian found a suitable spot, took a heavy pack off his shoulders, and started assembling an M134 type minigun from inside the bag.
Han Jiaojiao hadn’t expected them to bring this, and her eyes widened in surprise. She felt that if Kerry were here now, he would definitely not be able to resist saying “ohmygod.”

Perhaps amused by her expression, Yan Xiao couldn’t resist teasing her, “Why don’t you give it a try later?”
Han Jiaojiao shrunk behind Han Yi and shook her head. The recoil was too strong; she felt she couldn’t even hold it if she opened fire.
After Xiao Jian finished preparing, Han Yi, Han Jiaojiao, Lu Changyuan, and Yan Xiao continued forward. Passing through the long glass sky bridge, they reached the leisure area on the second floor of the clubhouse. The smell there was even worse, making Han Jiaojiao regret not wearing a mask. She truly worried she might not be able to stop herself from vomiting.
When they reached the railing of the leisure area and saw the situation in the dining area on the first floor, everyone was stunned by the sight!
Yan Xiao held back but finally couldn’t stop himself, and cursed in a suppressed voice, “Shit!”
