Rebirth: Contract Husband Falls in Love with Me-Chapter 583 - 303: Returning to the Residence
The sound of the carriage clattered, and soon it left the estate. Mrs. Zhao looked at her son, her lips unable to suppress a smile.
Zhao Qi did not even glance at her; his gaze was fixed intently and worriedly on the pale-faced Sang Wan on the couch. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Why does she look so unwell? Why hasn’t she woken up yet?" Zhao Qi asked.
Startled, Mrs. Zhao hurriedly responded, "She was frightened and got hurt. During these days, she has been mostly unconscious. It’s better this way to avoid the discomforts of the journey. Don’t worry, her life is not in danger. A good rest for a while will surely restore her."
Zhao Qi then stopped talking but continued to gaze intently at Sang Wan.
When Sang Wan awoke, she opened her eyes and found herself in a different setting. It was a very spacious and bright room, furnished and decorated exquisitely, like the boudoir of a wealthy young lady. The furniture was all embellished with raden and red lacquer, and all the drapes and curtains were of a delicate light purplish-red color with gold-thread embroidery, airy and soft, matching the overall opulence and elegance of the room.
"Yuanyang! Yuanyang!" Sang Wan sat up from the bed, rubbing her somewhat groggy head. Perhaps sitting on the boat for a long time had made her dizzy once she got off.
"You’re awake!" The response came not from Yuanyang but a gentle and pleasant male voice.
Sang Wan was momentarily startled and instinctively clutched the thin blanket tighter, looking down and relieved to see herself neatly dressed in an outer coat.
"You are—" Sang Wan was somewhat uncertain.
"Don’t be afraid, I won’t harm you." The man came to her bed, smiling gently at her, his friendly smile instinctively disarming.
Sang Wan could tell that he truly meant no harm, but—
"Young Master—how come you are here?"
Zhao Qi smiled, "I am Zhao Qi, you can just call me by my name. Your name is Miss Wan, right? The imperial doctor has seen you just now and said that there’s nothing seriously wrong with your health. You’ll recover well after some rest. Please feel free to ask for anything while you’re recuperating in our house."
"You’re Mrs. Zhao’s—son?" Sang Wan somewhat understood.
Zhao Qi was momentarily taken aback, then nodded, "Yes."
"Young Master Zhao!" Sang Wan nodded to him.
"No need for formalities, you’re not fully recovered yet, don’t tire yourself!" Seeing her greeting him, a bright spark flashed in Zhao Qi’s eyes, his smile growing even brighter.
"I wonder, where has Yuanyang gone? Young Master Zhao, is there anything else?" Sang Wan saw that he had no intention of leaving and felt somewhat awkward.
The son of Mrs. Zhao appearing in her room—no matter how she looked at it, it felt strange. However, being in someone else’s care, Sang Wan found it unsuitable to say much.
Zhao Qi came back to his senses and hurriedly said, "Yuanyang is just outside; I’ll call her over! I’ll leave first, so I don’t disturb your rest. By the way, are you hungry? Do you want something to eat? I hear your accent is from Jiangnan, shall I have someone prepare Hangzhou cuisine for you?"
"Thank you, Young Master Zhao, I don’t have any particular preference, you needn’t go to such trouble!" Sang Wan felt increasingly uneasy.
"Then that’s settled, I’ll be on my way." Zhao Qi took another good look at her, smiling as he left.
"Miss, you’re awake!" Soon after, Yuanyang entered with a smile. Seeing Sang Wan trying to get out of bed, she hurriedly went to assist her, "Miss, be careful! You’re still weak, maybe lie down a bit longer?"
"I want to take a look around!" Sang Wan insisted. The people in this mansion were all a bit strange; if someone barged in again without regard, she wouldn’t know how to cope.
Sang Wan had always been gentle and beautiful to Yuanyang, never insistent on her own opinions. Seeing Sang Wan speak so, Yuanyang was helpless and complied.
With the help of Yuanyang’s arm, Sang Wan approached the window, pushed open the colorful glass casement window, and looked out to see lush greenery, pavilions and towers, with rockeries, swaying golden chrysanthemums, and not far off, small streams converging into a pool glistening like silver satin under the sunlight.
"We’ve already arrived at the capital, this is Marquis Wuwei’s mansion, isn’t it?" Sang Wan asked softly.
"Yes," Yuanyang nodded and smiled, "The old Marquis has already passed away, now in the mansion it’s just the lady and the Young Master. The one who just came in to see you was our Young Master."
