Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!-Chapter 58: Standing Up for Justice
Bai Xiqin quietly listened to the sound from the radio. Her expression was calm, but her fingers tightened slightly.
Leng Yebai pursed his thin lips and placed a plate of small cakes in front of Bai Xiqin.
"Xiao Niu, eat the cake!"
Leng Yebai awkwardly scooped a big piece of cake with a spoon and held it to Bai Xiqin’s mouth.
If she swallowed it in one go, Bai Xiqin might choke to death.
Bai Xiqin’s mouth twitched slightly. She took the spoon and started eating the cake in small bites.
The sweet and greasy flavor filled her mouth, easing her grim mood.
"Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, Xiao Fan, remember, don’t get fooled by Zhao Mimi. No matter where she asks you to go, discuss it with everyone first!" Bai Xiqin earnestly reminded them once more.
"Alright then! I’ll try my best to control myself!"
Wang Yiyun calmly waved her hand.
Control yourself, so accidentally, you don’t kill her.
Trying to deceive her daughter, truly asking for trouble!
Her daughter might be a bit silly, but no one can trick her!
"Sis, don’t worry, I won’t be deceived." Bai Yifan raised an eyebrow.
He thought to himself, if he ran into Zhao Mimi on the road, and his foot slipped, accidentally hitting her with the car; it seemed fine.
After all, he didn’t have a driver’s license.
Big Sis said to spare her life, not to avoid hitting her!
"Dinner’s ready!"
Bai Zhengxuan brought a few plates of hot dishes to the table and took off his apron.
The Bai Family now took turns cooking meals.
Bai Zhengxuan ― Bai Anhai ― Leng Yebai ― Bai Yifan.
One person per day, no days off, no substitutions, and bad cooking would be criticized.
The aroma of the food filled the air. Bai Xiqin’s appetite was piqued as she turned off the radio and quietly enjoyed the meal.
The night was quiet.
The Bai Family lay on the second level beds of the bus, drifting into dreamland.
M City ―
A green garbage truck drove along the street.
Uncle Wang held a cigarette in his left hand, the steering wheel in his right, squinting as he drove.
Without street lights in the post-apocalyptic night, the garbage truck’s headlights were not very bright, making it hard to see ahead.
Yet, Uncle Wang was not worried at all.
Anyway, out on the streets at night were all zombies; a push of the pedal, problem solved.
"What a beautiful night!"
Uncle Wang sighed slightly.
M City had developed transportation and a large population, ranking top in the province. The city’s infrastructure was quite good.
Uncle Wang seldom came to such a developed place, enjoying the surroundings through the dim lights.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Various collision sounds emanated from the front of the truck, but Uncle Wang seemed deaf to them, continuing to admire the bustling city’s night view.
Not that seeing made any difference.
No matter how hard the zombies’ heads were, they couldn’t withstand a garbage truck!
"Vroom――"
A motorcycle engine sound suddenly came from the front.
Uncle Wang blinked, instinctively looking ahead.
A student-like young man rode a motorcycle straight toward him from the front.
Behind him, a mob of zombies chased the motorcycle, as if ready to devour it any second.
Uncle Wang was astonished, huh, this wouldn’t do!
Standing up to injustice, help with a blade!
He floored the pedal, and the green garbage truck, like a green beast, charged at the zombies.
"Ah! Young man! Why aren’t you dodging?"
"Bang!"
The green garbage truck collided with the motorcycle across from it.
Across the way, the motorcycle and its rider flew into the air, crashing hard on the ground.
There was no time to see how the young man fared. The mob of zombies seemed to explode, suddenly going wild.
"Roar――"
The zombies roared in fury, all lunging at the green garbage truck.
"What the hell!"
A rich yellow light instantly burst from Uncle Wang, tightly enveloping the green garbage truck, coating it with a light yellow glow.
The zombies in front of the truck were instantly sent flying, crashing hard onto the ground.
The horde was overwhelming, advancing relentlessly, as if the entire city’s zombies were coming at them.
Yet Uncle Wang did not break through; he backed up, glancing at the young man on the motorcycle.
The young man had already stood up, seemingly uninjured.
"Young man, go ahead, don’t mind me!"
Uncle Wang shouted, his voice strained, as the green garbage truck charged into the zombie horde again, smashing through.
Zhang Yiming sat aloof on the motorcycle, his always sunny and handsome face tinged with gloom.
Something had cut his forehead, black blood seeping out. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Zhang Yiming touched the wound with his slender fingers. In the moonlight, black blood was visible.
Grinding his fingers, Zhang Yiming’s face grew grimmer.
Lifting his eyes, he glanced at the green garbage truck, his gaze ice cold.
Zhang Yiming instinctively felt his chest, his expression changing slightly.
An almost tangible fiendish aura emanated from him.
At that moment, the zombie horde reached a point of frenzy, all surging toward the garbage truck.
Zhang Yiming switched on the motorcycle’s headlight, lowering his gaze to search the ground.
"Bang, bang, bang!"
Uncle Wang drove the green garbage truck, wreaking havoc among the zombies, a sight quite tragic.
This did not affect Zhang Yiming’s search.
He lowered his gaze, carefully examining the spot where he had just fallen.
If Uncle Wang turned his head now, he’d see an odd sight.
A casually-dressed college student, searching the ground for something.
Around him, within a three-meter radius, there were no zombies.
The zombies drawn by the commotion instinctively avoided Zhang Yiming.
Finally, a white, butterfly-shaped bookmark returned to Zhang Yiming’s hand.
A smile appeared on the fleetingly fiendish face of Zhang Yiming, with a moment of gentleness in his eyes.
This bookmark had been left by Xiao Niu in the library; he had gone through every book she had read.
The book "Half a Lifetime" she hadn’t finished, and the bookmark had lain there for a long, long time.
He had visited the school a few days ago and taken it out from the book.
With utmost care, he placed it back inside his jacket pocket. Zhang Yiming mounted the motorcycle.
With a cold glance at the green garbage truck, Zhang Yiming rode away.
This time, there were no zombies following him on his journey.
The massive zombie swarm had a moment of daze, then returned to normal.
The first reaction was to charge at the green garbage truck, the only source of sound.
Uncle Wang floored the pedal; the yellow light around him intensified. Even if a Second Rank zombie pounced on the truck, it was severely battered.
Uncle Wang resolutely cut a black path through the zombies, where all that remained was the black blood of zombies.
The green garbage truck did not linger, swiftly heading down a certain street.
"Old Liu! Old Liu! Are you there?"
Uncle Wang shouted outside a bun shop.
"Roar――"
A group of zombies chased the garbage truck fiercely.
"Shit! Old Wang, are you trying to take me down with you!"
A chubby old man poked his head out, immediately spotting the zombie horde behind the green garbage truck.
"No time to explain, get on the truck!"
Uncle Wang stopped the truck at the bun shop’s entrance and opened the door.
