Reawakened with a Dual Survival System in the Apocalypse.-Chapter 39: Slim bats attacks.
Chapter 39: Slim bats attacks.
While Seo Yuna and Adonis were in the green zone, Jayhan had stepped out after the first few seconds he got in.
When one is in the green zone, their body remains, but their mind enters a different plane, a domain where all they can see are their stats and stores.
Until they are done, they won’t be able to tell what is happening around them.
Quite inconvenient for Jayhan.
So, he chose to wait outside for them, while seated on a street bench.
Though he was quite busy with something of his own.
[You have a total of 123 gemstones.]
’I would have gathered more if they had disintegrated during the attack. In any case, these gems should have a positive effect.’
’Absorb.’
[You have absorbed 97 gemstones.]
Just like the first time he did this, he felt a surge of power flow through his body.
If he had this many gems before and fought with the queen, he would have come out on top easily.
[All boost has been transferred to your skill (Lord of Information).]
[The Lord of Information has undergone evolution.]
[A new attribute has been added to the skill.]
As the boost drained from his body, Jayhan focused his attention on the screen.
[New attribute, Mind Communication.] Description: You can now communicate with others through telepathy; language and distance are not barriers for you.
’Oh? This wasn’t what I was expecting at all. I’m quite impressed.’
It should be easy for him to communicate with the group now, regardless of where they were.
Since other sources of communication were useless with no network in this world, having such an attribute didn’t sound so bad.
Calmly, Jayhan stood up from the bench, his eyes fixed at a distance.
’Perhaps I should go alone...’ he thought to himself.
Finding the green zone was not his only goal; he also wanted to check the game store to see if there was a chance he’d find the second part of the game, *Apocalypse on Earth*.
Judging from how it seemed like monsters were pushing closer, he couldn’t help but think going alone would be faster.
Then again, could he really leave these two all by themselves?
Suddenly—
"Standing there all by yourself reminds me of a pet dog I once had. You would find that he did not take well to being alone, Human Jayhan."
Jayhan didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.
Only one person could call him such a cringeworthy name.
Sighing first, Jayhan turned,
"Are you done? What about S—"
His jaw almost dropped.
Adonis was standing there; in one hand, he was licking a popsicle, and in the other, he carried a white bag containing drinks and sweets.
A judgmental look played on Jayhan’s face.
"Don’t tell me you spent your coins on snacks..."
Adonis scoffed.
"Do you take me as the kind of man who knows nothing about resource management? I first upgraded my stats, and then I spent the rest on snacks, leaving just enough for me to remain alive."
’He has only 1000 coins left.’ Jayhan facepalmed.
In all honesty, he was more surprised at the fact Adonis’s store had things like that. Most people would be lucky to see a soda.
"Where are we headed to next? I assume we are returning back to the plaza. We’ve completed our goal for the day, right?"
Jayhan raised his head.
"No, not yet. I still have something I need to find first."
"Is that so? Is it one of those things you feel are necessary for us to know?"
Jayhan paused for a while; he knew what was coming, so he might as well push a few buttons while he was at it.
"You could say so."
Adonis frowned a bit, but before he could say anything, Seo Yuna appeared.
"Sorry, I’m late. I hope you guys didn’t wait long."
As soon as Seo passed him, Adonis grabbed her hand, pulling her behind him.
"Hey! What was th—"
"Something is here." Adonis had a serious look on his face.
Jayhan had the same expression, his dagger already clutched in his hand.
His system didn’t alert him of any survival risk, which meant the monster was not there for him. It was there for a specific target.
And while he didn’t fully know how Adonis was able to tell this so fast, Jayhan could tell he was right.
Right on cue, the monsters charged out of every corner around them.
Slime Bats.
Bat-like monsters made from slime that only attack women to suck on their energy.
A single Slime Bat was no different from a D-rank monster, but collectively, there was no easy target.
’Shit! How didn’t I know they were there?! I got carried away!’
Jayhan stretched his hand towards Adonis—
"Bring her here! We’ll head towards that school over there!!!"
He pointed at the end of the street with his other hand.
The monsters were drawing near, obviously eyeing Seo Yuna.
There were simply some monsters one should not try to fight; a Slime Bat was a good example.
Jayhan had studied these monsters in the game and understood how they moved. With Seo Yuna with him, he could keep her safe.
Or so he assumed.
It would seem Adonis had no intention of handing her over.
Without any warning, he carried Seo Yuna like a princess.
Even though she already had her weapons out, ready to fight.
"Excuse me!"
And charged forward.
Jayhan watched as Adonis skipped past him, confusion etched on his face,
"What are you doing?" He immediately followed behind him, the swarm of Slime Bats dangerously tracking them.
"You said to head towards the school, right? Well, off we go."
Seo could not hide her disgust.
But she knew better than to argue; she could already see the Slime Bats racing behind them, and they looked to be gaining on Jayhan.
"If you are worried about that human, I urge you to put your mind at ease. You should know him by now; he is running slow behind us for a reason."
Adonis uttered, as if trying to calm Seo’s worries.
Of course, she didn’t respond.
Meanwhile...
’What in the hell is he thinking?!!!’
Jayhan suddenly stopped, his legs sliding against the ground before he did a 180 turn, now facing the bats.
[You have activated your divine blessing, Child of Flames.]
He clapped his hands.
Allowing a huge burst of flames to surge forward, burning every single bat it came in contact with.
Like fireworks, they lit up the sky, burning to ashes before falling to the ground in numbers.
Of all the skills Jayhan had, this was the only one he could use that could take out numbers in minutes,
Which also meant he would now be under the curse of the goddess, Amaterasu.
Something he was trying to avoid as much as possible.
Picking up his pace, he took a quick glance behind him and saw most of the bats he had killed had revived and were back to chasing them.
’That was fast.’ fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
Jayhan already knew Slime Bats could not be killed. His whole reason for using his [Child of Flames] was to buy time for Adonis to get Seo into the school grounds.
Alas, Adonis himself had not gotten very far.
[You are currently using the Lord of Information.]
<Hey! Stop running in a straight line! You can’t outrun a Slime Bat; they don’t have a fixed speed!>
Jayhan’s voice echoed in Adonis’s head.
<Human? How are you able to speak in my head?>
<There’s no time for questions; do as I say!>
<You forget who I am? For you to think I can be outpaced by some bats is insulting; as you see, I am closer to the school grounds.>
’This dude is so annoying!!!’
Jayhan turned around again, planning to unleash his flames to buy more time.
That was when a Slime Bat sped past him.
And then another, and another.
Their speed had increased.
Jayhan quickly turned around, and then shouted—
"Whatever you do, don’t touch the bats!!!"
Seo and Adonis looked behind them, and there, they could see the bats catching up.
Adonis was shocked since he was sure they were so far away up until a few moments ago.
"Where is Jayhan?!" Seo voiced out, not a trace of him beyond the bats swarming behind them.
Adonis clenched his jaw; he knew with the sudden speed the bats had, he could not outrun them. Not by a long shot.
With a sigh, he uttered,
"Come take her—I’ll bu—"
From nowhere, Jayhan snatched Seo from him. The moment she held on, he charged forward, moving with inhuman speed.
In a few seconds, as the bats blinded Adonis, Jayhan charged into the school, threw Seo into one of the classrooms, and locked the door.
’Windows!!!’
Jayhan immediately stood up to his feet, closing all the windows in the classroom. The moment he closed the last one, a bat slammed into it, leaving a bit of slime upon impact.
Meanwhile, Adonis steadily walked towards the school, not a single smile on his face.
Slime Bats had surrounded the whole place, waiting for them to step out so they could ambush their target.
