Chapter 47: Yu Ling’er: Do I Have a Part to Play Again?
In this awkward atmosphere, Yu Ling’er looked somewhat puzzled, Elder Qingxue’s cheeks were tinged with red, and Ye Xuan was silently amused. After watching a scene in the bushes, Mo Dazhuang parted ways with the woman.
On his way home, Mo Dazhuang felt extremely pleased. Despite feeling weak in the legs, the experience was unforgettable. However, after walking a few steps, he suddenly sensed something was amiss. He patted himself down frantically.
“Damn it, where’s my money?!!” he exclaimed, unable to find it anywhere. He went back and searched through the bushes thoroughly, but the money pouch was nowhere to be found.
“Could it be… that woman stole it?!! Oh heavens, that was the livelihood of my family of six for the future—!!!”
Panic set in for Mo Dazhuang. How would he explain this to his family when he got back? The thought of their disappointed faces filled him with despair. Despite his efforts, he couldn’t find any trace of the woman. In the end, he had no choice but to return home, utterly dejected.
“…” Finally, Yu Ling’er couldn’t hold back her questions anymore. She turned to Elder Qingxue and asked, “Elder Qingxue, didn’t you say… it was Brother Ye Xuan who had people rob your brother? But it seems like the woman stole your brother’s money.”
Elder Qingxue’s face turned grim as she watched her brother on the screen, confused. She distinctly remembered her brother telling her that right after borrowing the money, he was immediately robbed by men sent by Ye Xuan. But the scene unfolding before her contradicted her recollection.
Could it be—!!! The possibility made her eyes widen in shock. Impossible… how could her brother do such a thing?!!
“Brother, you’re back—!!!” A young and beautiful girl greeted Mo Dazhuang as he returned to the farmhouse. “Did you manage to borrow the money?” she asked. Despite wearing plain clothes of the common folk, she was very pretty. This was the young Elder Qingxue, also known as Mo Qingxue.
“I… I did borrow it, but… it got robbed,” Mo Dazhuang hesitated before admitting, clearly distressed.
“What?! How could that happen? Who robbed you?!!” Mo Qingxue exclaimed in shock.
“It was… that…” Mo Dazhuang started to say he didn’t know but then thought better of it, realizing it would only lead to more trouble later. So, he confessed, “It was Young Master Ye. He just lent me the money and then immediately had it stolen back.”
“What?! That’s outrageous! We must report this to the authorities—!!” Mo Qingxue angrily declared.
Mo Dazhuang, feeling guilty, responded, “It’s no use, sister. He is powerful and well-connected, even colluding with the officials. Even if he took our house and lands, I couldn’t do anything about it. Besides, he only robbed me of one coin… the authorities won’t care. Let’s just let it go…”
“But what are we going to do? We don’t have anything left to eat at home—!” Mo Qingxue looked heartbroken as she cursed, “Ye Xuan, how could there be such a heartless and inhumane person—!!”
Elder Qingxue, visibly embarrassed, found herself at a loss for words as she realized the truth unraveling before her eyes in the mirror of past events. She noticed Yu Ling’er’s and Ye Xuan’s curious glances.
“…” Clearing her throat, she attempted to regain her composure, despite the awkward situation. “I only just learned the truth of this matter myself. However, this incident pales in comparison to the evil deeds Ye Xuan committed in his past life,” she tried to justify.
Her usual icy demeanor struggled to maintain its firmness under these circumstances. Turning to Ye Xuan and Yu Ling’er, she insisted, “You’ll understand later how truly wicked Ye Xuan is—!!!”
Loop
“Oh? Is that so?” Yu Ling’er, observing Elder Qingxue’s flustered expression, began to doubt. Considering the magnitude of this misunderstanding, she found it hard to believe that Elder Qingxue wasn’t just as mistaken about Ye Xuan from the beginning.
On a sunny day, Ye Xuan, accompanied by two guards, strolled down the streets, his eyes scanning the crowd. He couldn’t help but express his admiration, “Our Wuyuan Town might not be a big place, but the girls here are certainly beautiful.”
One of the guards chimed in, “Indeed, Master Ye. Look, that’s Miss Zhang, she looks so pretty in that outfit.”
“Master Ye, and over there, that’s Miss Liu from the Liu family. She’s also very charming and elegant.”
As the trio walked, they constantly observed the young women passing by, clearly enjoying the view. Their demeanor resembled that of affluent young men leisurely roaming the streets, which seemed to intimidate the passersby somewhat.
Especially the women, who, upon catching their gaze, would quickly divert their path, apparently anxious about attracting Ye Xuan’s attention.
“Uh…” Yu Ling’er watched the scene unfold with a mixture of disbelief and annoyance. She couldn’t help but comment to Ye Xuan, “Brother Ye Xuan, I never expected you to be this kind of person.”
“What’s wrong with this? Isn’t it quite nice?” Ye Xuan responded with a shameless grin.
Yu Ling’er felt a bit frustrated. Hadn’t Ye Xuan ever considered her beautiful? Didn’t she compare favorably to these other girls?
Meanwhile, Elder Qingxue let out a slight sigh of relief. Despite her previous misunderstandings about Ye Xuan, this scene seemed to confirm her belief that Ye Xuan was indeed a philanderer. If this were not true, she would have to question the authenticity of the Former Dust Mirror or wonder if it had been tampered with.
Suddenly, the scene was interrupted by a young girl’s voice calling out from behind Ye Xuan, “Brother Ye Xuan—!!!” He turned around and saw a girl clad in red, exquisitely beautiful, looking at him playfully.
“Ah—!!!” Yu Ling’er exclaimed in shock. The girl in the scene was a spitting image of herself! How could this be? At this moment, not only Yu Ling’er but also Elder Qingxue was filled with confusion and disbelief. Why did the girl in the scene bear such a striking resemblance to Yu Ling’er?
