Chapter 399: Counter

Bang!!

The barrier proved stubborn, but on the fourth shot, after I had charged up Spell Breaker with my Psion, it exploded like a balloon pricked.

A huge wave of energy was released in all directions from the explosion. I widened my stance and covered my face with my arms to protect against the intense release, but then suddenly, I released a punch forward.

Counter!!

The waves of energy pouring in my direction were immediately annihilated by my action, and not wasting a second, I dove to the side, escaping a vicious dropkick.

Entering into a roll, just as I stood, my enemy appeared before me. She was fast, but before she could make a move, I released a shot at her.

Bang!!

At such close range, I expected a splatter of blood and flesh, but in real time I watched the momentum of my bullet be rapidly zapped, stopping just an inch from the woman’s chest.

An unnatural silence went through the air, time seeming to have been stopped, and then feelings of doom began ringing from all around.

With my eyes, I watched the bullet be repelled, the force hitting it so hard its entire form was compressed, everything after it being wrecked.

The air let out a hiss like it was being burnt, the ground peeled and was dug in. Mind Vision played this all in slow motion for me, but in reality, it was but an instant.

One second, I fired a shot at my opponent, and then the next second, there was a loud blast, and the world turned upside down.

It was like a bomb had been detonated.

For a few seconds, I could not think, and then when I could, I found everything wrong with my body.

My ears rang unceasingly, leaving me deaf. My nose felt wet. I couldn’t feel my mouth or eyes, and the only thing that assured me I was alive was the ache running through my body.

It sucked, everything sucked, but I wanted to live. I had just given my mind the greatest workload ever, pushing it to its very limits, but it was still functional, and against my desires, I used it to inspect the world around me.

Echo!!

When I compared what had just happened to a bomb, I hadn’t been exaggerating. The 3D model I currently had in my head showed me a field where a section of it had been completely destroyed, buildings and ground alike.

Hontas, whose position hadn’t been any better than mine, was on the ground, passed out, and observing, I envied her as her carpet swooped down, lifted her up, and disappeared into the night sky at blinding speed.

My current position was far from where I had last stood, and when more of my bodily functions returned and I opened my eyes, I found myself staring at the numerous stars in the sky.

"Life is beautiful," I whispered.

Arghhh!!

The bloodcurdling scream from a female reached my ears, bringing me back to earth, and the next second, I disappeared from my position on the ground.

The very first step I took shattered the ground, leaving a small crater in my wake, and it was no surprise, as I was moving faster than I ever had in my life.

While Hontas had taken the full brunt of this deadly attack, half-dead or possibly even dead at the moment, I had absorbed as much damage as I could.

Energy from something comparable to a bomb was no joke. In the end, I had been overwhelmed, but what mattered was that I survived, and now I was moving on overdrive.

My opponent’s target wasn’t I or Hontas; she hadn’t even bothered with the woman when her carpet rescued her.

After dealing with both of us, she focused on Ninja Momma, poking one end of her wand into the left of her chest.

From Isolde’s scream, the woman gripping her fist tight, her teeth gnashing together, it was clear she was either being tortured or had fallen into the hands of a mad sadist.

When I got off the ground, the dark-haired female had been on one knee, looking Isolde in the eye as she caused her misery, but despite my blinding speed, by the time I reached her position, she was already on her feet and facing me.

Mind Vision lagged a little due to my speed, but it was able to pick up on the transformation of energies in the woman, especially her wand.

Like before, I saw the future, my mind informed me that the woman was preparing to repel me once again.

My thoughts of her being a sadist were debunked as I, this time, more closely observed her face.

Her expression was blank, no look of pleasure or madness. My survival and current speed did not surprise her.

Her eyes comfortably followed my movement, and she looked at me like what was currently happening was a normal Tuesday.

The future showed me a release of power on the same scale as before, and understanding what I was up against, I went all out.

"Full counter."

My body could just barely contain this power, my mind doing most of the heavy lifting, yet here I was, releasing everything at once.

Energy surged within me as I threw my fist, and just as my punch came in contact with her repulsive field, I enjoyed the slight widening of her eyes as my power began bursting forth.

Booom!!

The energies being put toward the current clash by my scale were titanic, it should have caused a ravaging explosion, but that did not happen.

There was a resounding impact, yes, a strong wind bursting out, but after that, only one figure was sent shooting through the air, their form blitzing faster than a bullet, breaking the sound barrier within the first seconds of flight, smashing through several walls, disappearing into the far-off buildings.

Heavy breaths left my lips, and then I fell to my knees.

"Are you alright?" I whispered.

Her back against a collapsed pillar for support, Isolde looked at me in disbelief. Her eyes roamed down my body to my arm.

"I should be the one asking that."
