"What a pleasure to see you again, Rael Sutekh," the Beast chuckled. "I hope I'm not intruding or anything, I was just a little bored, you could say."

"Then what's with the grand entrance? 'Walks freely'? Are you serious?" Rael commented. "If you wanted a better catchphrase, why not do something along the lines of: The Beast is about to dominat—nevermind."

"Alune did mention you're pretty bad with names," the Beast said. "On the other hand, may I accompany you for the time being? I know you still have a few monuments left to visit. Four, if I recall?"

"Yep, but what do you mean by that? You want to accompany me? Aren't you already stalking me from above or something?" Rael asked flatly.

However, the Beast merely shook its head. "I don't spend as much time watching over you as you might expect. Alune, on the other hand, watches you daily. She can't wait to meet you. And yes, I want to travel with you to the next monument. I suppose I just want to experience the thrill?"

So I not only have a fan but also an overprotective father who wants to find out my intentions... is that it? Rael thought with a sigh and nodded.

"Sure, come along, it's not like you'll take no for an answer anyways."

"Excellent," the Beast replied with a wide smile. "I'll shotgun."

"Sorry, that spot is already taken, no objections," Rael interjected. "Sweepus Prime watches the road for us and cleans the seats every time we step out. The least I can offer him is a good view."

The Beast furrowed its brows, but after just a few short moments, nodded in resignation. "Very well... I'll sit in the back with the plebeian human woman."

"T-The what...? Rael?" Caedia finally snapped out of it. "T-That doesn't happen to be who I think it is, right?"

"Yep, that's the Beast," Rael replied flatly, causing her eyes to widen. "But don't worry, he doesn't bite... I think?"

"Very funny..." the Beast muttered. "I shall take the seat on the right. You, woman, stay away from me or else my wife will devour me tonight."

With those words, the Beast walked off, crossing the wooden-plank bridge and stepping inside the car.

Meanwhile, Caedia remained rooted in place, unable to move from sheer fear.

"As I said, he's not going to hurt either of us for the time being. Just try not to piss him off, though—I'd wager he has a short temper," Rael said, tapping her on the shoulder before walking over to the car.

After a few short moments, she began following him, then sped up her pace to match his.

"J-Just who are you, anyway? You're acquainted with the Hollow King and the Beast? This is not something a normal human could accomplish..." she asked, and he merely shrugged.

"Look, I didn't sign up to be their friend, it was just circumstances that led me here. So I'd recommend just keeping quiet and going about your day. I'll bring you back, and I'll ask for compensation from the other empresses, so I'd be glad if you backed me when we're there," Rael said plainly.

Finally, he got to the car and stepped inside, with the trembling Caedia doing the same.

Of course, he soon turned on autopilot, which began heading toward the monument above the Ruins of Saltmere.

However, just as he thought all the surprises were over, something smacked against his windshield, prompting Rael to hit the brakes.

But in the very next moment, a bat flew through the open window, landing right on his lap.

"Ew, what the fuck—Thalor?" Rael's eyes widened as he inspected the bat on his lap.

—Thalor, The Vampire Noble (General Class Boss) [Level 198] [28/298,661,722 HP]

"H-Help me..." Thalor muttered, but before Rael could even say a single word, the Beast reached out from the back and grabbed Thalor.

And to everyone's surprise, the Beast's mouth opened wide—much more than should be possible—and in the very next moment, it swallowed Thalor whole.

Rael stared at the scene in shock. "Holy fucking shit. You just ate a vampire."

"Did I? It looked like a bat to me," the Beast shrugged.

"Do bats talk?" Rael pushed. "Because that one definitely did."

"The ones that talk are the tastiest," the Beast chuckled. "Anyways, what's done is done. He's already been digested. No use crying over spoiled milk is the saying, I believe?"

What a fucking maniac... Rael sighed. "We're moving now, please don't eat Caedia."

"No problem, I shall take a quick nap."

Like Seryn, the Beast immediately fell asleep. However, its head soon hit the window and startled it awake.

"Who dares to wake me from my slumber!?"

"..." Rael didn't even bother to entertain the conversation as he put his foot on the gas pedal and rode away.

The last 10 minutes were pretty quiet, and thankfully, the Beast managed to fall asleep peacefully.

However, it seemed like they would need to get out, as the Ruins of Saltmere were right in front of them.

He considered heading straight for the monument, but since he'd likely visit this strange world often, Rael decided to get accustomed to the surroundings.

Unlike the rest of the cities, the Ruins of Saltmere were down a hill, to the point where the coast was visible.

But Rael didn't need to be a genius to know that whoever steps foot in the water swiftly becomes serpent food.

Still... I can see some shipwrecks in the sea, Rael thought with interest as he stepped out of the car and began heading toward the Ruins of Saltmere.

It seemed like Caedia was trailing not too far away from him, likely not wanting to be left alone in a car with the Beast.

He paid her no mind, however, and finally reached the ruined city.

Of course, there was rubble wherever the eye could see, even the remnants of those who lived here were unrecognizable.

Merchants maybe? Why else would they have ships... Rael thought as a wild idea struck his mind.

What if everything was fine at some point... but then something came along and brought the monsters here? The Beast, maybe?

It was just speculation at this point, and unless he asked the Beast directly, he would never know.

Despite that, he walked through what was left of the streets, until he finally arrived in front of a barely standing church.

I guess I can pray for good luck.

Rael stepped inside and arrived before the pedestal. However, just as he was about to say some bullshit prayer, he spotted an object placed at the very bottom of the pedestal.

And the moment he picked it up and inspected it, his eyes widened.

What in the fuck...?
