Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Beast Supression guard

"AWOOOOOO!"

A huge wolf with silver-blue fur was seen howling to the moon, looking menacingly at the village behind him.

On his side, a huge gash was bleeding profusely.

A silver feather shot right behind him, lagging behind only slightly and dissipating a few steps away.

"Hmph! Let’s see if you dare attack my field again!" Fengyu shouted, his expression forming one of anger and resentment as he turned around.

Ming and Ling were next to him, both also bleeding, injuries all over their bodies, mostly small earth bullets.

Just then, a cultivator arrived right outside their field, his whole body covered in armour while holding a spear, looking at the retreating wolves then at Fengyu and the other two. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Honoured Beast Suppression Guard!" Fengyu and the twins called out, cupping their hands in greetings, barely managing to suppress their injuries to do so.

"Hm, did you fight that beast? It looks injured."

"Yes, honoured guard! We did everything in our power to fight it and not allow it to enter our fields!"

While they were talking, on the side, two ducks in white, their feathers with a silver edge, came along.

The guard raised his spear, seemingly about to attack, when he realised that they were inside the formation.

Silver Feather and Silver Shadow also raised their wings, about to fire their feathers!

"Stop! Guard, these two are our tamed beasts."

"Hmm?" the guard looked weirdly, then he looked at the field on the other side, and understood, "You worked together to protect both fields?"

"It’s like that, honoured guard. These two and I have made a pact to work together and protect each other. Today, when the beast came, we quickly spread our forces to fight the wolves."

The guard looked over to the three, then focused on Fengyu.

He nodded, his expression becoming better.

"Working together and protecting each other... this is a good way to protect the path. I will report your contributions to defending the village today," the guard said, about to leave.

"Honoured guard, who was it?" Fengyu looked over to the beasts, his eyes burning with anger.

"Who caused this Beast Attack?"

"Heh, it seems you aren’t stupid.

We are looking into it, if we find someone guilty, we will make sure he pays compensation. Record all the damages for now."

Fengyu nodded and seeing the man was about to leave, he spoke up again, "It might be those... rats. They’re living in the inner fields, around the field D-8."

When Fengyu first entered the field, he got assigned the field B-3. The A fields are 10-acre fields in the inner region of the village, B fields are 10-acre fields in the outer region, C fields are 5-acre fields and D fields are 1-acre fields. Even numbers were in the east, uneven numbers in the west. Looking from above, Fengyu’s field was in the west.

"You think so? Why?" the guard stopped and asked seriously, as this also concerned his benefit.

"They kept asking to borrow money from me the previous years. A month ago, I saw them sneaking around my field again. And today the beasts suddenly attacked. I don’t think this was a coincidence!"

"Borrow money?" the guard frowned when he heard this.

He knew very well that such cultivators weren’t uncommon, but in the world of cultivation, asking to borrow money privately from strangers was equivalent to revealing murderous intent – no one with a sane mind would do it!

"We will inspect it and see whether they are the ones that caused this Beast Attack. If they were, then..." the guard didn’t say anything, but Fengyu instantly understood it.

Seeing there was nothing else, the guard left the two alone.

Fengyu waited for some time. When he saw that no one else came, he returned back into his formation and looked at the twins.

"I’m sorry you had to do this!" he apologized, then started casting healing spells and removing the bullets from their bodies. Ming was barely injured, but Ling had over three bullets in her shoulder, abdomen and arm.

"Senior brother, you helped us a lot and allowed us to survive it safely! How could we be mad? These small injuries aren’t anything, don’t worry about it!" Ling hurriedly waved her hand after she was healed, not feeling like she suffered at all.

"Brother, what you said about those..." Mind asked, only to get a scolding look from his sister.

"What I said is real, they did come and look around my field when we had just left.

I don’t know why or what they did, but I can be sure that their behaviour was suspicious.

In the world of cultivation, the strong rule.

Since they are weak, as long as there is enough suspicion, the village will naturally blame the attack on them rather than accept they had been unprepared for a sudden Beast Attack.

And they did try to borrow money from me, so they’re not as innocent as you might think." Fengyu smiled while explaining, not bothered at all that he might’ve caused the death of them.

If they hadn’t asked him for money repeatedly, why would he do this?

He might’ve forgotten about them if they didn’t come to his field. But now that they did, this time will be the last time they approached his field.

"Then brother, we will go to our field again. Thank you, fellow daoist Silver Feather, for protecting it!" the twins cupped their hands at Silver Feather before leaving.

Fengyu saw that neither of these ducks were injured, and knew that the low-grade beast Fire Bear couldn’t break the formation. It likely only took longer since these two’s attacks weren’t particularly strong against beasts.

"You two also gained experience this time, which is good. You will know better how to protect the field in the future.

Let’s go back to rest and recover," Fengyu said, feeling extremely exhausted mentally and physically.

He hadn’t even had time to relax after a month-long beast hunt when this attack happened.

Weariness appeared in his eyes as he fell into his bed...
