Raised From The Wild-Chapter 388: Defeated 2
Jiro left the hotel and returned to his villa in the Capital City of Zui Gao. He had been concealing his identity as the Sect Leader of the Zui Gao Dark Phoenix faction.
However, he has come into the open. Why would he continue to hide when the pandemic has plunged the world into chaos, and their only hope is the Dark Phoenix, who held the cure to the virus?
In the last few days, a lot of the government’s high-ranking officials had come to him begging for the anti-viral drug that he sold for a sky-high price.
Despite the rumors suggesting that he was taking advantage of others’ unfortunate situations, he remained unfazed. For him, the end goal of furthering the Dark Phoenix’s cause justified his action of raising prices.
As days went by, the number of people succumbing to the Octa virus steadily increased, and hospitals were overflowing with victims. The sheer volume of patients resulted in folding beds lining the hallways, making them virtually disappear. As a result, the frustration and dissatisfaction among the citizens reached new heights.
That was exactly the result that the Dark Phoenix wanted to achieve. Jiro’s subordinates and the members of his faction fanned the flames and started a propaganda movement.
Citizens who were scared of the plague of the Octa virus lost their trust in the government. Some officials who were not loyal to the person in the seat of power started to distance themselves from the government and ingratiate themselves with Jiro.
What is the use of patriotism or loyalty if you die? Who did not want to live?
In just a short time, many Zui Gao government officials had defected to the Dark Phoenix.
But who would have thought that the government would find a way to counter the Octa virus in such a short time?
..
Jiro was having a banquet at his villa. He had invited his newly gained political allies and the big shots in the pharmaceutical industries who fawned over him for a chance to be the distributor of the anti-viral drug. A few tycoons were also attending.
All the guests were wearing facial masks and face shields. Even though Jiro assured them that the villa was virus-free, they still did not feel safe.
"Mister Jiro, I am convinced that without you, this country would perish because of the pandemic. The government is useless. Don’t worry; I will surely support you in the next election."
"Me too, Mister Jiro. I and my household will support you and all the candidates you endorse. If not for your anti-viral drug, my wife should have died already."
Jiro was grinning from ear to ear. He did not wear a mask so everyone could see the ambition in his eyes.
’This fools! Bootlicking on those who are in power. If not for your wealth and influence, I will not pay you any attention.’ Jiro sneered inwardly.
Suddenly, there was a commotion at the door.
Jiro narrowed his eyes as he watched a guard running toward him in panic.
"Sect Leader, the military are coming over with their high-powered guns."
Jiro frowned. The hand holding the wine glass tightened. He had his men stationed all over the place, but if those people have high powered firearm, then his men would not be able to subdue them. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
When the men standing close heard that there were military personnel coming in, they hurriedly left Jiro and moved to the side trying to find the most inconspicuous space to stand and watch.
"Sect Leader, let me escort you. You have to escape. It looked like those people have bad intentions." His most loyal guard tried to pull him and bring him to a secret chamber in his room. That chamber would lead to a secret passage that would bring him out of the villa.
Jiro hesitated. He was torn between escaping or confronting the military. However, he had no choice as the military men had already surrounded him with their guns pointed at him..
"Oh, thank you for reminding me. I almost forgot about that! In addition to the charge of rebellion, I am also arresting you for price gouging. You raised the price of the antiviral drug to an exploitative level during a calamity, which violated the Consumer Protection Act."
A bulky man in civilian clothes slapped an arrest warrant to his face.
"Mister Jiro Nuki, you are under arrest for rebellion against the Country of Chaneya. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." The man read his right expressionlessly.
The two men who had been fawning with him earlier were hiding behind the tree in the garden. They regretted coming over to attend the banquet. They should have listened to their wives and stayed at home.
"How dare you? What rebellion are you talking about? I am the savior of Zui Gao. Without the anti-viral drugs, more people could have died."
The man in civilian clothes who handed him the arrest warrant smiled slyly as if he remembered something.
"Thank you for reminding you. You are also under arrest for price gouging. You raised the medicine prices to an exploitative level during a crisis."
"Damn it! I saved Zui Gao. Now you are arresting me? You ingrates. I should have let you die instead." Jiro was so furious that he lashed out at the arresting officer like a madman.
"Third offense, slandering the arresting officer, so I will sue you for slander."
"Fourth offense: Threatening the arresting officer."
Jiro: "..."
The old man who was so smug earlier felt that all his blood rushed to his head. He felt an inexplicable anger in his gut.
"What are you waiting for, you idiots! Attack them and kill them!" He roared.
Before Jiro’s men could move, the cold barrel of the gun was already pointing at them.
"Fifth offense: Inciting Violence."
"Sixth offense: Attempting Murder."
Thud!
The Sect Leader of the Zui Gao faction of the Dark Phoenix fell on the ground, vomiting blood before passing out.
He was defeated!
