Raised From The Wild-Chapter 377: The Cure 2
Leon coughed awkwardly. "I was sent on a mission to Ra-iya around three years ago."
Doctor Wallace had been standing for some time, pondering the situation, before eventually deciding to sit on the couch.
"What else did you discover?" he inquired, leaning forward with genuine interest.
"As you know, Prince Raquim’s platelet started to plummet. We injected him with a small amount of the platelet from the Princess as her blood type is a universal donor, and guess what? The Crown Prince of Albanya developed antibodies, and the antigens in his body were rapidly neutralized. He and the rest of the patients are now recovering well." Doctor Peterson said with twinkling eyes.
Who wouldn’t be proud when they discovered a cure for a new virus in such a short time? His team of doctors and researchers made history! 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"That’s good. We now have the cure, and we can control the virus." Doctor Wallace looked relaxed, and the tiredness on his face was replaced with a gentle smile.
"Doctor Wallace, it is best to administer the ampules you provided last time for mild cases. We can increase the potency, which should be enough to cure the disease at the early stage of infection." Doctor Peterson showed the senior doctor the results of their trials.
A sound chimed from Doctor Wallace’s suit pocket, cutting through the conversation with its sudden interruption. He reached into his pocket, retrieved his cell phone, and switched it to speaker mode. His face shield made it impractical for him to hold the phone close to his ear, so using the speaker was his best option.
"Doctor Wallace, go to the board room for an emergency meeting. It is a code red!" An urgent male voice was heard.
Doctor Wallace hastily stood and ran out of the room, followed by Doctor Peterson.
The three individuals who remained exchanged meaningful glances. "Do you think that the virus has reached all four continents?" Vasquez inquired.
Leon furrowed his brow as he continued to type a series of letters and numbers on the keyboard. "It looks like it," he answered.
"Then, are we going to be stranded here?"
Leon threw Vasquez an icy gaze. He was a highly trained guard with a mercenary background. How could he ask such nonsense?
"What do you think?" He replied coldly. Vasquez lowered his head and focused his attention on his cell phone.
A nurse entered their room. "Princess, we need to extract some more of your blood." she respectfully in a flat tone.
Princess Amaya peered into her expressionless doll-like eyes.
"Okay." She responded calmly.
"How many milliliters will you extract?" Leon asked, his tone icy. If the nurse were a human, she would have trembled in fear.
"I need to extract 500ml from the Princess, Sir Leon." The nurse answered in that emotionless voice. She then led the princess to a chair with an armrest in the corner.
Princess Amaya watched as the nurse pierced her vein with a steady hand. She seemed mesmerized as the crimson fluid flowed through the big needle and into the vial.
Vasquez averted his gaze and shifted his attention to the ceiling. Meanwhile, Leon kept a close watch on the Princess, carefully observing the subtle changes in her complexion.
After the extraction, Princess Amaya took a pill from a bottle in her bag and popped it into her mouth.
"I always carry emergency medicines in my bag," she said casually when she noticed Leon observing her. "This is a blood-refilling pill."
Vasquez did not say anything. In the years he had been guarding the Princess, he knew she always had emergency supplies in her bag.
After the nurse left, Princess Amaya activated ExZee and had her report the trending topic on the internet. Her brows were furrowed after hearing the gist of it.
"I thought General Jones ordered the quarantine of the hostages." Princess Amaya uttered in a soft voice.
"He did. But the families of the hostages did not take it to heart. The victims also did not show any symptoms. They did not have any fever at all. They were instead brought to psychologists to counter the trauma they experienced during the hostage-taking." Leon replied with a sigh.
"How can they not have the symptoms? Prince Raquim and his guard had it within four hours after exposure." Vasquez interjected.
"I guess that they were administered a drug that delayed the virus’s incubation period. The mastermind behind the hostage-taking was very cunning. He calculated the timing well."
Princess Amaya glanced at Leon. The more she listened to him, the more she was convinced that Leon was not just an ordinary guard.
Princess Amaya inquired about the specific timing of Leon’s visit to Ra-Iya and whether he had also ventured into Mount Paraiso. She was curious to know if Leon had gone there before them, and if he had been part of the group of scientists they had seen in the video, who were attacked by the wolves.
"More than two years ago, Princess. We did not enter. We just checked the periphery of Mount Paraiso."
"Vasquez, how did we get the virus? Do you think it was the time when we were in that facility?" Princess Amaya asked.
"I believed it was possible. It was a laboratory, after all. The air was musty, and we could have inhaled something harmful." Vasquez replied.
Princess Amaya seemed to be lost in her thoughts. She was trying to recall what happened two years ago. She agreed that they might have contracted the virus in that facility. Doctor Peterson said it was a weak variant but enough for them to develop antibodies.
A notification from her cell phone brought her back to her senses.
’Where are you, Aya? Are you okay? The whole world is in chaos because of the fatal disease that started spreading.’
It was a message from her grandfather. Soon, she received additional messages from her Dad, Ibarra, Donello, Dave, and Julienne asking about her well-being.
She replied to the messages one by one, informing them that she was fine and in a safe place in Uropa. Then, she decided to take a selfie and send the photo to them.
Ren flooded her inbox with messages, reporting that flights had been canceled due to a rapid increase in the number of sick individuals in Chaneya and Usturia. Fortunately, there were no reported cases in Lireya or Albanya.
"Leon, do you have access to the Alliance Intelligence System? Do you know how many people are already infected?"
