Ragnarok: Alpha and Omega-Chapter 31 - 30: The First Assignment
Chapter 31 - 30: The First Assignment
As we entered the guild building, Sam led us into a room he called the Education and Planning Room.
The moment we stepped inside, I realized this wasn't just any classroom—it was high-tech. A standing whiteboard occupied one side, while a 3D hologram system flickered to life at the center. Computers lined the walls, each displaying maps and data, resembling an intelligence hub straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Jason let out a low whistle. Damn, this looks like a command center.
Sam chuckled. Sometimes, we are a command center. The guild occasionally assists the Ranker Police in tracking down rogue Rankers, which is why we have all this equipment.
That caught my attention. So the guild has a direct hand in law enforcement too? Interesting.
Sam gestured for us to sit. Alright, let's see what you two already know about dungeons. Explain it to me.
Jason went first. "Dungeons are mysterious caves or ruins with portal-like entrances. They contain monsters, traps, and treasures, and they can appear randomly in different places."
Sam nodded, then turned to me. "What about you?"
I shrugged. Pretty much what Jason said. That's about all I know.
Sam sighed, rubbing his forehead. Eell... at least you guys aren't completely clueless. He leaned forward. "Listen up—there's more to dungeons than just monsters and treasure. There are different types of dungeons, just like there are different types of treasures. Do you guys know how they're ranked?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
Good. List them for me."
I took a deep breath before answering:
Common (Lowest) – Basic or easily found items with minimal power.
Uncommon – Slightly better, often with minor magical properties.
Rare – Stronger and harder to find, usually requiring effort to obtain.
Epic – Highly valuable treasures with significant abilities.
Legendary – Exceptionally powerful, often tied to myths and history.
Mythic (Highest) – The pinnacle of treasures, possessing near-unlimited power and rarity.
Sam nodded in approval. "At least you know that much. And just like treasure, dungeon rankings follow the same pattern. The higher the rank, the more dangerous the dungeon."
Jason leaned forward. "So, what else do we need to know?"
Sam's expression turned serious. "The most important thing? A dungeon must be cleared within five months of appearing. If not, the monsters inside will break out into the real world."
Jason and I exchanged glances.
"Wait," Jason said. Are you saying monsters can just... escape?
Sam nodded grimly. Yes. We don't know why this happens, but we've seen it three times before—each time with an A-rank dungeon. The results were disastrous. That's why it's a universal rule now: dungeons must be cleared within five months. No exceptions.
His tone darkened. The last time an A-rank dungeon was left unchecked... an entire city was wiped off the map. The death toll was in the millions.
Jason let out a low curse. "Shit... that bad?"
Sam nodded. "That's why guilds compete to clear them first. It's not just about survival—it's about control. Whoever clears the strongest dungeons gains prestige, wealth, and influence. That's why the Guild Alliance Competition exists. Every three months, teams are sent into dungeons, and whoever performs best gains the most recognition."
I smirked. So it's a never-ending battle for dominance?
"Exactly," Sam said. "Welcome to the world of guilds."
He then added, One more thing—Mythic treasures here are on par with Epic treasures in the Middle Realm (Hell). However, Mythic-ranked dungeons here are only equivalent to Uncommon dungeons in the Middle Realm.
Jason and I froze for a moment, exchanging surprised looks.
"Uncommon?" Jason muttered. "You're saying the dungeons here are that weak compared to Hell's?"
Sam smirked. "That's exactly what I'm saying. The Middle Realm operates on a completely different level."
Before we could ask anything else, Sam clapped his hands. Alright, moving on—our guild is officially giving you your first assignment.
That got our attention immediately. Jason and I straightened up, eager for what was coming next.
"Follow me," Sam said, leading us toward the guild leader's office.
I hesitated for a moment. Not that place again... I muttered, recalling our last nerve-wracking visit.
Sam chuckled. Relax, we're using the normal route this time.
Instead of the intimidating elevator from before, he led us to a different one. The ride was smooth, no sudden stops or unsettling sensations. When the doors slid open, we stepped into a hallway with a large glass panel on one side. Beyond it, I recognized a familiar room—it looked just like the one Jason and I had fought those robots in.
Ignoring the view, we followed Sam to the end of the hall, where we stopped in front of a large office door. As it opened, Sam gestured for us to sit in the lounge area.
Just then, Guild Leader Xavier stepped out of the conversation room inside his office. He wasn't alone—a middle-aged man and a teenage girl followed him. The man had a stern expression, while the girl, around seventeen, had striking green eyes and golden hair.
"Mr. Peter," Xavier said, turning to the man. I'm sure you recognize these young men.
Peter eyed us before nodding. "Yes, I saw them in the preliminary match."
Xavier smiled. Well, they're also members of my guild. And they'll be the ones handling your request.
Peter's expression darkened slightly. "I've seen them in action, but..." He glanced at his daughter before looking back at Xavier. "I don't want anything to happen to my child."
Xavier nodded reassuringly. I understand. That's why I'll be assigning a Legendary-rank member to accompany them. Your daughter will be in safe hands.
Peter still looked reluctant, but he sighed and nodded. "Alright... I'll hold you to that."
Sam accompanied Peter out while his daughter stayed behind, looking at us curiously.
Jena crossed her arms. "Are you sure these guys can handle it?"
Jason grinned. "You haven't seen us in action yet."
The office door swung open again.
A tall young man stepped in, his presence instantly shifting the atmosphere. He had blue hair, piercing purple pupils, and wore a sleek combat suit. The air around him felt charged, like standing near a storm before it hit.
You called for me, Captain? His voice was smooth, controlled—almost too calm.
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freeweɓnovēl.coɱ.
Xavier nodded. Yes, Ren. You'll be accompanying our new members and supporting them in their first assignment.
Ren glanced at us, his purple gaze assessing. "Understood."
Xavier turned back to us. This is Ren—he will be your leader on this mission. His power and control over it have earned him a Legendary-rank title. Follow his lead.
Jason and I exchanged looks. Having a Legendary-rank warrior with us? This mission was getting more interesting by the second.
Xavier continued, "You'll depart in ten minutes. In the meantime, Ragnarok, Jason—you two will be taken to change into the guild's combat uniforms."
I smirked. "Now that sounds cool."
Jason elbowed me. "Just don't make it weird."
