Ragnarok: Alpha and Omega-Chapter 29 - 28: New Home, Old Threats
Chapter 29 - 28: New Home, Old Threats
After chatting for a while, we fell asleep.
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing. Sitting up, I checked the caller ID—Sam. Jason and Luna were still asleep.
I answered, and his voice came through the speaker.
"The new house for you and Jason is ready," he said.
I barely registered his words because, in the background, a news report caught my attention.
"Breaking news: An apartment downtown was destroyed in what appears to have been a heated battle."
I stiffened.
On-screen, they showed the wreckage of our old apartment. Smoke still rose from the ruins, and the reporter spoke with a witness.
"Yeah," the man said. "The two who lived there—I saw them running while a hooded man chased after them."
A chill ran down my spine. We barely made it out alive, and now our faces were probably being spread across the city.
Sam coughed, bringing me back to the call. "Hey, Ragnarok... are you at your apartment now?"
"No," I muttered, still watching the screen. "I'm somewhere else."
I quickly explained what happened.
There was silence on the other end, then a deep sigh. "Damn... I was supposed to be your protector until you finished the tournament. Sorry, I didn't realize things would get this bad."
I frowned. "Protector?"
"You're part of Red Phoenix now," Sam said. "I was the one who recruited you, which means I take responsibility for you. I should've been watching your backs."
His words made more sense now. He wasn't just a guildmate—he felt responsible for us, like a senior looking out for rookies.

"Where are you now? I'll come pick you up."
I glanced out the window, but I had no idea where we were. Turning to Luna, I nudged her awake.
Her eyes shot open, and before I could react, she karate-chopped me on the head.
"Ow!" I groaned, rubbing the spot.
She blinked sleepily. "Oh, sorry! I usually don't have people over and completely forgot you guys were here."
"Yeah, well, that's a hell of a wake-up call."
Luna sat up, stretching. "What's up?"
"Where exactly are we?"
She yawned. "You mean the street?"
"Yeah."
"Oh. We're at 12th Avenue, down Madison Lane."
I relayed the address to Sam.
"Got it. Stay put."
A few moments later, Jason woke up, stretching as he sat up. He looked over at me. "What's going on?"
"Sam's coming to pick us up," I said. "Also, the new house is ready."
Luna perked up. "A new home? Is it big?"
I shrugged. "Probably."
She hesitated before speaking again. "This might be sudden... or strange... but can I stay with you guys? My rent is almost due, and I haven't made enough money to cover it."
I exchanged a glance with Jason.
For a moment, I considered the risks. We barely knew her. Letting someone into our new home after everything that just happened could be dangerous.
But then I remembered last night. Luna didn't have to help us. She could've thrown us out, ignored us, or even reported us. Instead, she gave us food and a place to rest—no questions asked.
Jason rubbed his neck. "Well... she did save our asses."
I sighed. "Yeah, alright. You can stay."
Luna's face lit up. "Thanks! Okay, let me get ready."
As she rushed to grab her things, Jason leaned over, lowering his voice. "You sure about this?"
I exhaled. "No. But I owe her. And if things go south, we'll deal with it then."
Jason nodded, standing up. "Fair enough."
I looked at the screen one last time. The news report was still showing the aftermath of the battle.
A ruined apartment. A manhunt. A hooded figure.
We had barely escaped, but one thing was clear—whoever came after us wasn't done yet.
And next time, we might not be so lucky.
---
About ten minutes later, a knock sounded at the door.
I opened it to find Sam standing there. He stepped inside, scanning the room before giving me and Jason a nod. "How are you two holding up?"
"We're fine," Jason answered.
Sam's gaze shifted to Luna. "And who's this?"
"She's the one who helped us escape the rogue Ranker," I explained.
Hearing that, Sam bowed slightly. "I extend my gratitude to you. If it weren't for you, these two might not have made it out."
Luna waved him off. "Don't worry about it. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
I motioned for Sam to step aside so we could talk privately. Lowering my voice, I asked, "So... how big is the house?"
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Why? Are you planning on inviting her?"
I nodded.
He exhaled, clearly wanting to question my decision, but in the end, he let it go. "Yeah, it'll fit all of you. It's actually a nice villa—spacious, with a swimming pool and even a training center."
I blinked. "A training center?"
Sam smirked. "Told you it'd be better than your old place. Now, let's get going. The car's outside."
We got into the car, and Sam drove us across the city. The ride was mostly quiet, with Luna occasionally glancing out the window, looking lost in thought. Jason stretched out in the backseat, clearly enjoying the comfortable ride after the chaos we had been through.
After about twenty minutes, we arrived at a gated community. The guards at the entrance saw Sam and let us through without question. As we drove in, the landscape changed—lush trees lined the road, and large, elegant houses stood behind tall walls.
Finally, we pulled up to a massive villa. The black iron gates opened automatically as we approached, revealing a grand mansion with white stone walls and towering windows. The front yard was spacious, with neatly trimmed hedges, a fountain in the center, and a pathway leading up to the entrance.
Luna's eyes widened. "You weren't kidding... this place is huge."
Jason let out a low whistle. "Damn. Now this is what I call an upgrade."
Sam parked the car and turned to us with a smirk. "Told you it'd be better. Come on, let's check it out."
We stepped out of the car, taking in the sheer size of the villa. As we walked up the steps, the grand double doors swung open, revealing a sleek, modern interior. The high ceilings, marble floors, and elegant chandeliers made it clear that this wasn't just some ordinary house—it was a true mansion.
Sam led us on a quick tour, showing off the main living area, a fully stocked kitchen, multiple guest rooms, and even a massive training center in the basement.
"This will be your new home from now on," Sam said. "Everything's set up. You'll find fresh clothes in your rooms, and the kitchen is stocked with food. If you need anything else, let me know."
I exchanged a glance with Jason, and we both nodded. "This is perfect."
Luna hesitated before asking, "Are you sure it's okay for me to stay here?"
Jason grinned. "You saved our asses, didn't you? Consider this your reward."
She smiled. "Well, I won't argue with that."
Sam checked his watch. "I have some guild matters to take care of, so I'll leave you guys to settle in. Just don't break anything."
As he turned to leave, I called out, "Sam, thanks... for everything."
He waved me off. "You're part of Red Phoenix now. Looking after you is my job. Just make sure you survive long enough to repay me."
With that, he left, and we were finally alone in our new home.
Jason stretched. "So... first order of business?"
I smirked. "We train. We're not going to let another rogue Ranker catch us off guard again."
Jason's grin widened. "Now you're talking."
Luna groaned. "Ugh, you guys are really those 'train every day' types, huh?"
I chuckled. "Get used to it."
