Quills: the Rise of the Northern Matriarch-Chapter 69: Sign 2
Chapter 69 - Sign 2
"If I was not sure if she was yours, I would be sure now, Kadir." Nora smiled.
"What are you talking about? She gets that from you. I did not talk until I was two years old," Kadir said. He laid down the other bonding pillow or 'nursing pillow' that Nora had created. Nora stroked the fine soft crops of her daughter's hair and hummed 'You're still the one' softly. Her mother used to long to sing and was a talented musician. She recalled how her mom would stroke her hair when she was sick. She could still envision her mother and her sister. Her father was absent on business or, it turns out, possibly with his second family. So they were alone, a lot. She did not notice that Liem and Cerez had stopped what they were doing. Kadir had sat down to rest with the same look and was giving her a tender look. They all knew this song as it was something she hummed to their children to soothe them.
"Hey Nora, what song is it you are humming?'' Kadir finally asked, as it often entered his thoughts when he worked. Nora paused and twisted her head.
"My Mother used to sing this to us all the time. It is called 'You are still the one.' Nora said back.
"Do you think you can play it on the Teere? It goes through my mind incessantly when I work. It might be nice to hear it. We can also play it for them if they are fussy and you are busy," Kadir asked. They had the recording that Liem made of the folk songs that she had played for Daven months ago, but none of 'her' songs. It would be. The thought of being too busy to console her children hit her right in the heart like an arrow. Nora was reluctant to record anything if not for convenience like she did for her nephew, Daven.
"Yes," Nora said after a little hesitation. "Have you been listening to the other music that I recorded for Daven?" Nora said, feeling her ears heat up.
"Yes," Kadir said matter-of-factly. She felt her face flush.

"Do the 'Adele' song in common language. It sounds so pretty in your language, I wonder what it would sound like in ours?" Cerez said, poorly pronouncing the name Adele. Nora tried to rationalize away the shyness that she was feeling. She had been nude, pooped in front of them and even vomited all over herself and the hall when she did not make it to the toilet once. Her mother was a musician and performed in front of large crowds. She knew she had perfect pitch and inherited her mother's talent. Her grandparents were both in the industry. Her own grandmother was from the Courtois family.
"What? You have a very beautiful voice." Kadir said, looking at her red face. Nora smiled awkwardly at the compliment, if they had something to compare it, like Adele, Shania or her mother. They would find her a poor facsimile.
"Alright. These two are done. Can you help me put them down to see if they will sleep properly?" Nora said, time to see if her tea time would truly be taken away from her throughout the day. Tea at night would just not do. She inwardly prayed that they were just being fussy as infants were entitled to be. However, her apparently brilliant heirs could strip her of it. Two hours went by without a single peep.
"Well shit." Nora said in English, cursing.
"We could always put them on nutritional milk. They drink it well." Liem said his Interface picked up her swearing in her native language. It was well worth it to keep the program. Liem smirked.
"No. I will give it up for them, for now." Nora said, looking at her beautiful daughters sleeping soundly. Physical skin to skin contact and breastfeeding were important to her. She did not know when she would stop producing milk when she got deeper into this current pregnancy and then again with Kai's child. If he ever wanted to do that with her. Liem was touched at how much she deeply cared for her family. She reminded him of his father sometimes with her selflessness. "It is getting late. It is time to get you ready," Cerez said. Nora sighed. Time to put on all the clothes and cosmetics that women wear here. It was fun to dress up, but it took time.
Nora would be leaving the building to meet Kai Setton at the factory under the pretense of finalizing the details of the security of the autonomous workforce project that Kadir had set up as Quills' first main line of business. It was now a secondary line of business as Cerez and Nora's food company had developed quickly. They were making obscene amounts of money from the beverages alone. Nora was happy to be leaving the complex for the first time since their holidays a month ago.
Allurai and her spouses would be watching Sirona and Astra while they were out for the evening for their formal introduction which would help with their ruse to the Setton's in bringing him into Quill Industries as Nora's fourth spouse. Kai Setton would be an integral piece to the liberation movement due to the power his familial connections would bring. They had another powerful targeted spouse to bring in, and they would meet formally at the ceremony if they were successful. It was important for how it would look for Nora to have met him before and then have their clan send the request to the Clan Setton to avoid any suspicion. Without the right people and power to back it up, even Nora was not safe. They all had HudaiTech interfaces, and killing them was as easy as ordering 'a meal' for Matriarch Elite. Their collective maternal clans had tremendous power, but even they could not protect them.
Their clan's people did not know their plans and might not ever know. It could put them seemingly in danger. Although Clan Halid could not be dealt with in the same manner as Sedai and Allari, they could be exterminated if the benefits outweighed the good. Setton was the key to their survival. No matter how they looked at it. Even though what they were doing by using Nora as bait tonight was unscrupulous, it was worth it. Their world had two helpless hostages and more coming with Nora's genes. They could posthumously collect her ovaries and create as many healthy males and females as desired. The same could be done to their daughters. They needed to have patience, tonight was important. Regardless of the many lives that were lost, if they were found out before they could do anything it would not benefit anyone.
'The changes could take many generations', Nora concluded. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would play a part in it. Their first mission was to end the need for genetic slavery. Daleth deserved to live long, safe and healthy lives. With Kadir's autonomous work force and Liem, Janel and Nora's research into fostering reintegration to a new equitable society. There would be no reason for Daleth to work after the new workforce was popular. They would be cheap and repairable. Kadir was still working on an untraceable way to protect the Daleth from just being exterminated; it would be implemented if that happened. For now, they have just had the Droids and a fail-safe.
"I feel so gross. Are you sure?" Nora asked. Cerez and Liem finished primping, scenting and dressing Nora. She hadn't had her daily bath purposefully. Nora blew at the sheer veil that was obscuring her face.
"I think it is best, it is not manipulative. Kai, he just might need more encouragement," Liem said. Cerez gave him a sad and knowing look. It would probably take him more than this to want to touch a woman.
"These veils are very annoying," Nora said. Nora was dressed in a dusty rose-coloured, long slit back butterfly dress. It opened up at the bust with a V cut that was held together with mesh and ribbon. Her hair was in big loose ringlets. She looked at herself in the mirror. Cerez had hung a new large diamond necklace on her that dangled between her cleavage. Her breasts were larger now that she was a mother. She felt sexy.
