Quills: the Rise of the Northern Matriarch-Chapter 68: Sign
Chapter 68 - Sign
"If you keep treating me like this then they will get jealous." Nora lied a little. She was getting sick of Kale and fruit smoothies and the bitter greens. Nora found herself quickly pregnant again. Her second pregnancy was going very well since they had learned from the first time. Cerez was pushing really healthy food on her.
"We are fine with you eating healthily if she is healthier." Liem said, convinced that she would give their family another girl. Nora cursed him in her head. She was getting sick of bitter smoothies and various tonics.
"What if there are two again?" Cerez said. Folic acid was very important to fetal development, the smoothies helped her recover more of the nutrients her body needed after getting pregnant so quickly the first time.
"What if I just make it myself? Could you stop me?" Nora said.
"Fine, what do you want to eat?" Cerez relented.
"I would like some meat, fruit, tea and dessert after this." Nora said, pouting.
"No tea!" Liem yelled. They found out why the two, three month-old infants were having such a hard time falling asleep after their afternoon feedings. Nora had been having multiple cups of milk tea in the mornings to wake up.
"Yes, Tea. My Mother drank tea when she was pregnant. I did with Rona and Ra, and they are just fine." Nora said defensively. There was no way that she was going to give up tea either. What she did not know was that it was Sirona and Astra that woke up in the middle of the night fussing because their sleep was altered by the caffeine in the tea. Pekoe was not a common beverage and their physiology had not adapted it to it.
"After they go to bed, then." Kadir poked her left breast gently. "They are drinking it now," he said. Nora furrowed her brows, giving him a warning look.
"Oh, the naps." Nora said frustratedly. She would dry up, and they would be on formula soon. They had not had an issue with formula when she left. She could not be selfish. They were receiving so many benefits from it. They were healthier and heavier than Lena. She insisted that they breastfeed until she could not anymore. They defended her decision to their parents. Nora did not care what their grandparents had to say about it.
"Fine, I am making the dessert then. You'll probably put plant protein in it. The flour just came. Do not ruin my Cookies by making them 'healthy'." Nora huffed with a grossed out face.
"You won't be able to tell," Cerez said in jest.
" I will be able to tell, just follow the recipe." Nora feigned a temper tantrum. She heard the twins start to laugh.
"Even those two do not see through that act," Kadir said. Nora stuck her tongue out at her children and was amazed to see them do it back.
"Since you gave me such smart babies, I cannot hold out on you." Nora said lovingly, pecking Liem on the nose, then Kadir, and lastly Cerez.
"Alright, I will do it. But you have to rest, just tell me how to do it like we used to." Cerez said, caving in.
"Will you do it? Properly, with no changes to the recipe, right? I am serious." Nora said pointedly. He could not let her do it. He loved his daughters, but it was special to know that this was his child growing inside her. She gave him this child out of love.
"I will follow your instructions, my Flower," Cerez said.
"Sugar Cookies? We have company coming tonight?" Nora pleaded, afraid that he would try to pull some health-wise crap. She wanted legit cookies. Tonight she will be meeting Kai in person. He passed all the tests, psychological evaluations, and the 'sniff test'. She would be meeting him to see if they were compatible. He had a rough experience with women that he was supposed to be able to trust. She was happy to take things slow and give him all the time and space he needed. However, she was not opposed to starting off physically should he want to try. It had worked out very well for her before. She loved her spouses. They all felt Kai would be the best next member to their family. They respected him thoroughly and trusted him. Leaving selection to her spouses, meant that she did not really have to worry about inferiority complexes, or them hating each other. She did not bring up their new spouse. She was surprised after her holidays to learn that they had already been thinking about it in her stead. She would leave the selection to them in the future.
She was a little nervous. So she distracted herself instead by teaching sign language to them, hoping their daughters would be able to use it while they learned to speak. Her spouses looked at her oddly when they looked at her, showing their daughter's hand signs. "Is that another language Nora?" Nora nodded.
"This is for people who had hearing difficulties back on Earth." Nora answered back in Korean. "Can we learn it as well?" Kadir asked. "Yes, I am just starting them off with some key phrases. It will allow them to tell us what they need, lessening their distress. It will aid in their language acquisition since they will speak both languages in the future. Maybe more." Nora said. She would teach them everything she knew so they knew their history. She would write books in Korean so they would know their own ancestry. It would, of course, be a clan secret.
"It is about time to feed them. Watch what we have been working on." Nora said excitedly as Sirona started to fuss. "Hungry." Nora waved her hand up and down in the sign for 'hungry'. Her daughter's big green eyes were transfixed on her mother. Astra's blue eyes bobbed as she watched her mother sign.
"Ehhhhhn!" Sirona cried in frustration.

"Hungry." Nora said, repeating the action. Sirona mimicked her so she picked her up right away. Amazingly, Astra followed along once she saw her sister getting what she wanted too.
"Yes! Hungry! Very good!" Nora said, cheering for her children. A proud smile beamed on her face.
Kadir picked Astra out of her seat beaming with pride. She was so smart. He planted a kiss on her. He followed her into the Main room. Nora pulled the strap of her dress down and Sirona greedily started suckling. She made the milk sign. "Milk," she said. Astra signed, Hungry and Milk. Nora saw her and beamed in approval.
"Astra, very good," Kadir said with great pride. He handed her to Nora. She could barely hold her own neck now and she was already communicating.
