Chapter 203: Lowering Her Stance

"I hit you because you deserve it! Jenny—did you single-handedly orchestrate what happened to Harper?"

Jenny’s mind was still in a daze. "Sis, I... I just wanted to get revenge for you. Sophia was throwing her weight around first..."

"Idiot!"

Vivian was furious. "Do you have any idea how big a disaster you’ve caused? My image in Lucas’s eyes has already dropped again and again. If this keeps going, do you have any clue what the consequences will be?"

"Sis, I—don’t worry. I did everything very discreetly. No one found out. They all think I’m the victim."

Vivian let out a cold laugh full of rage. "You’re the victim? Take a good look at what the internet looks like right now! I told you over and over not to provoke Sophia—why didn’t you listen?!"

Jenny froze.

Beside her, Evelyn glanced at the phone and gasped. "Miss Jenny, this is bad—Harper’s PR team just released an audio recording. It’s the conversation between you and Miss Morgan."

"What?!"

Jenny snatched the phone and scrolled through it frantically. Her face turned deathly pale.

No wonder... no wonder Sophia had said those cryptic things earlier.

Online public opinion flipped instantly.

Her already limited fanbase dropped sharply.

And plenty of new people followed her just to curse at her—then unfollow.

"How can this be..."

"Now you finally realize how serious this is?" Vivian said coldly. "Jenny, I’ll be blunt—you’re no match for her. Even I may not be able to take her head-on. And you? You smashed everything with one reckless move. Where does that leave my dignity? I only managed to get you in through Lucas’s connections. And now you’ve hurt his wife. Did you forget the last warning I gave you?"

Outside, angry shouting had already begun to echo faintly.

"Sis, what should I do?" Jenny panicked. "I never thought the consequences would be this bad. I’m scared. Sis, you have to help me—I was wrong."

She was still young—arrogant and spoiled before trouble struck, now trembling like a frightened quail once it did.

Vivian took a deep breath. "Do you think there’s any other option left besides apologizing?"

"Sis... you want me to apologize to Harper?"

"Sophia came all the way from City A to City C. You should know very well that their relationship isn’t ordinary."

Jenny bit down hard on her lower lip.

"I’m going to the hotel to see Sophia first," Vivian said. "You clean yourself up and come over immediately. And prepare an apology gift."

"Yes... Sis."

Vivian turned and hurried away. She had to calm Sophia down—otherwise, the consequences would be unthinkable.

"Miss Jenny... should I go tell the director that filming is canceled for today?"

Evelyn asked softly.

Jenny’s temper instantly exploded again.

She spun around—

Slap!

A sharp slap landed on Evelyn’s face. "It’s all your fault! Why didn’t you stop me? If you had, would I have offended a demon like her?!"

"Miss Jenny, I did warn you, but you—"

"You’re still talking back?!"

Jenny’s expression at that moment was terrifying.

Evelyn immediately shut her mouth. If she said one more word, the outcome would only be worse.

...

At the hotel.

Sophia stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, a cup of coffee in her hand.

"Sophia, your method really worked," Jodi said. "Public opinion has turned sharply. Our online push completely overwhelmed theirs."

"When dealing with brainless people," Sophia said coolly, "you use a harsher method—one they’ll never forget."

Jodi nodded. Nearby, Harper finally let out a breath of relief. "Thank God it’s finally over. Being framed like that... it’s awful."

"It’s not over yet," Sophia said calmly. "Strictly speaking, you were targeted because of me. From what I know, Vivian has already arrived in City C. The mess Jenny caused—Vivian will have to clean it up herself."

"Sophia, you mean Vivian? It can’t possibly be because of Lucas, right? You’re already married. It’s not like she can still break you two up."

Jodi, listening from the side, let out a soft laugh. "People break up when they’re dating. They also get divorced after they’re married. Lucas is a diamond bachelor—his business chains span the globe. What you know is only the surface. I once watched one of his interviews. He’s even involved in oil and energy. Every year he sets up charitable foundations and donates part of the proceeds."

"Jodi, don’t scare me. Is he really that powerful?"

"Of course. More than that—he owns over a hundred properties, most of them villas. His net worth is in the hundreds of billions. He couldn’t spend it all even in dozens of lifetimes."

Harper collapsed onto the bed, turned her head to look at Sophia. "Sophia, do you think I still have a chance to fight you in some dramatic ’best-friends-steal-the-husband’ battle? You get the man, I take the money kind of deal?"

"The sky outside is bright."

"Huh?"

"You’re daydreaming—in broad daylight."

Sophia leaned forward and pinched Harper’s ear. "Get ready. Someone’s coming."

"Who? Jenny?"

"You’ll find out in a moment."

Not long after she spoke, the doorbell rang.

Jodi put on her professional smile. "Miss Cooper."

"Hello, I’m here to see Sophia and Harper."

Jodi stepped aside to let her in.

"Sophia. Harper."

Sophia didn’t turn around. With her back to Vivian, she said calmly, "Miss Cooper, what brings you all the way to City C? Wasn’t the trip tiring?"

"Sophia, I’m here on Jenny’s behalf to apologize to Miss Carter. She’s still young and doesn’t know any better."

"Do you still keep formula at home?"

Sophia’s sudden question caught Vivian off guard. "Of course not."

"Then that explains it. She doesn’t even drink formula anymore, and you’re telling me she’s still a child? She’s in her twenties—she’s long past adulthood. I don’t require anyone to be perfectly clever or flawless, but at the very least, they should have a conscience. And more importantly, everyone must take responsibility for the mistakes they make."

Her words were razor-sharp. Vivian found herself steadily pushed back. "She knows she was wrong. And knowing one’s mistake and correcting it is the greatest good."

"If all it takes to fix a wrongdoing is a simple ’sorry,’ then what do we need the police for?" Sophia replied coldly. "If I framed you, wouldn’t you want to fight me to the end just the same?"

"Sophia, this is all a misunderstanding. And Miss Carter, please give me a chance to compensate you properly. Let me apologize sincerely. I hope you’ll be magnanimous and not hold this against Jenny."

Harper, who had been quietly filing her nails on the sofa, blew off the dust. "Compensate? Miss Cooper, your sister targeted me and cut me deeply. So tell me—can I seriously hurt her first, then turn around and apologize to you afterward?"

Harper loved medicine. And when her face turned cold, the "keep-your-distance" aura was enough to stop anyone from approaching.

"Miss Carter, I’m truly sorry. This matter was a misunderstanding. I wonder if you’d be willing, for my sake, to have a meal with us. I’ll make sure Jenny offers you a proper apology."

"For your sake?" Harper finally lifted her gaze to look at her, scanning her from head to toe before shaking her head with a mocking smile. "Who do you think you are?"
