QT: The Rescue Of The Miserable Bigshots-Chapter 240 - 8.27
Chapter 240: 8.27
"Thanks for the reminder, but Brother Fu and I are truly in love, and he doesn’t love you. A marriage based on family background won’t bring happiness. Please let us go. This is better for all of us, and I will sincerely thank you."
Tang Tang’s smile stiffened slightly. He subtly tilted the wine glass in his palm and sprinkled the powder inside without leaving a trace.
Jiang Jiamian, don’t blame him.
It was far too late to play the wise, persuasive one.
And who knew if this was just another trap, like in their past life?
Just in case, he had to take the initiative.
Tang Tang’s little move was well-hidden, but Jiang Jiamian, whose senses were sharper than most, noticed it instantly. His eyebrows arched slightly.
It seems that he overestimated the protagonist.
The other party didn’t listen at all.
No hope of waking up on the spot.
In that case, he’d already given him a chance, there was no need to be merciful anymore.
Jiang Jiamian smiled, "Of course I will. I’ll see it through to the end, don’t worry."
Tang Tang noticed something off about his tone, but didn’t dwell on it.
He gently raised the wine glass and handed it to Jiang Jiamian, "Then, I sincerely thank you. This glass is for you."
Jiang Jiamian’s smile deepened as he accepted the glass. Then he casually grabbed an empty one from the table, poured wine into it, and held the two glasses, one in each hand.
"Alright. As long as the Fu family agrees to cancel my engagement with Fu Xiaoyuan, I promise never to have anything to do with him again. I’ll even give you a glass in return, let’s make peace and wipe the slate clean. How about it?"
Tang Tang had seen Jiang Jiamian pour the wine himself. Even though he was reluctant, he realized Jiang Jiamian probably wouldn’t drink if he refused. And he had watched the whole thing.
"Okay."
After a brief inner struggle, Tang Tang took the wine glass Jiang Jiamian offered. "Thank you."
Jiang Jiamian clinked his glass lightly, "You’re welcome!"
After all, the wine had already been switched.
This was a matter of technique, nothing to him. He didn’t even need help from the soul space.
After all, in one of the counterattack missions, he’d played the role of an illusionist.
Jiang Jiamian tilted his head back and drank the red wine. When he lowered his glass, he saw Tang Tang also drinking, his smile stiff and mechanical. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Jiang Jiamian sighed inwardly. He had poured his own glass, and Tang Tang had drunk Tang Tang’s. Whether the result was good or bad, it now depended entirely on Tang Tang’s own heart. No one else could be blamed.
He wasn’t sure how strong the drug was, nor did he care to stick around and see the reaction. With a light smile, he turned and walked away with the glass in his hand.
As he looked through the crowd, his eyes landed on Fu Yanchen and Fu Xiaoyuan in a dark corner, one sitting, the other standing. The air between them was tense.
"I came here to toast you, big brother. You won’t even give me that face?"
Fu Xiaoyuan held his glass and looked down at Fu Yanchen with smug satisfaction, as if this visual gap brought him comfort.
As if Fu Yanchen, once lofty and powerful, was now just a cripple with no chance of regaining status.
Fu Yanchen chuckled, "What face do you have in front of me? And when did I ever acknowledge the title of big brother? You’re just an illegitimate child who was lucky enough to enter the family, thinking you’re some kind of rightful heir?"
"You!"
Fu Xiaoyuan’s face flushed with anger. After several attempts to compose himself, he lowered his voice, noticing the nearby guests watching. "This is a public occasion. I call you big brother out of politeness. Don’t make a scene. After all, I’ll be the head of the Fu family in the future. You should consider your own future."
"You’re really confident, aren’t you?"
Fu Yanchen laughed again. It was almost insulting to his intelligence to see this guy as a rival. "Besides, I thought you’d be thanking me. I just saved you from getting replaced out of kindness. You should be grateful."
Fu Xiaoyuan was stunned, "Replaced? What replacement?"
Fu Yanchen pulled out a lighter, lit a cigar, took a slow drag, and exhaled smoke leisurely. He lightly pointed toward the front of the hall.
Fu Xiaoyuan frowned, confused. When he followed the gesture, he saw that Mr. Fu, though outwardly composed as he responded to guests, kept glancing toward the entrance, his expression gradually turning darker and more impatient.
"What are you looking at?"
Suddenly, someone blocked his line of sight.
Fu Xiaoyuan frowned, only to find Jiang Jiamian walking toward them with a smile.
"What I’m looking at has nothing to do with you."
Fu Xiaoyuan instinctively sneered, but before he could finish, Jiang Jiamian brushed past him and came to stand behind Fu Yanchen’s wheelchair, one hand resting naturally on his shoulder. "Were you looking for me?"
Fu Xiaoyuan’s face turned red in an instant. His embarrassment greatly pleased Fu Yanchen.
With a satisfied smile, Fu Yanchen reached up and interlaced their fingers, "Yeah, I was looking for you. Sit with me and don’t wander off."
Jiang Jiamian’s lips curled into a smile, "Okay! But be polite. He came all this way to toast you. How can you not drink?"
He let go of Fu Yanchen’s hand and walked back to Fu Xiaoyuan. Before the latter could react, he took the wine glass from his hand.
"After all, we’re all family now. We’re bound to see each other again."
"A-ah? Y-yes, yes!"
Fu Xiaoyuan, who had been struggling to get Fu Yanchen to drink it, was thrilled. He didn’t care about the earlier awkwardness anymore. If either of them drank this, it’d be perfect.
As long as one of them made a fool of themselves, he could call off the engagement and crush Fu Yanchen’s pride.
"But..." Jiang Jiamian grabbed another glass and slowly poured fresh wine into it. "Respect goes both ways between brothers, right?"
He held a glass in each hand and offered one to Fu Yanchen and one to Fu Xiaoyuan.
Fu Xiaoyuan, eager to get Fu Yanchen to drink, didn’t hesitate. He thought the correct glass was going to Fu Yanchen, so he accepted his own without a second thought.
Fu Yanchen, of course, wouldn’t refuse wine from Jiang Jiamian.
Fu Xiaoyuan was blind.
He wasn’t.
And Jiang Jiamian made sure only Fu Yanchen could see his little wink, clear as day.
So clever. So sharp.
And not only had he miraculously cured his legs, but he’d also easily outplayed Fu Xiaoyuan.
Fu Yanchen was certain Fu Xiaoyuan had tampered with that wine. That was why he never planned to drink it.
But Jiang Jiamian saw right through it!
This treasure... was truly something else.
Why did he ever think Jiang Jiamian was a fool?
Clearly, this was nothing like the man he used to hear about.
He’d picked up a real treasure!
Fu Yanchen kept a straight face, but inwardly, he was beaming. He lifted his glass and drank with elegance and ease.
Perhaps sensing victory, Fu Xiaoyuan drank too, smug and satisfied.
"Well then, I won’t bother you anymore, big brother."
He turned and left hurriedly, eager to escape the battlefield.
Jiang Jiamian watched him go and smirked, "That’s it?"
Fu Yanchen’s eyes gleamed, "That’s it."
"That’s it, and he still managed to squeeze you out of the heir’s seat? Old Master Fu must be insane, replacing you with a rotten bean sprout." Jiang Jiamian’s tone was dripping with sarcasm.
He really looked down on the protagonist gong in this world.
If not for the halo, and the overused disabled and gloomy villain trope, this one wouldn’t have lasted to Chapter ten.
Fu Yanchen sneered and turned his head toward Jiang Jiamian. "I should be asking you. That’s it, how did you ever like him? And for someone like that, you fought Tang Tang like a fool?"
Jiang Jiamian laughed awkwardly. "I was blind. Completely blind. Don’t worry, those were all stupid things I did in the past. Now, I only like you."
Hmph!
Blame that idiotic original owner for this shameful baggage!
Fu Yanchen: "..."
Was it his imagination, or did that last line sound... kind of like a scumbag?
