Chapter 29 - Leaving The Village

The following morning, Bai Yunxi awoke to the gentle caress of sunlight filtering through the bamboo shutters. She stretched lazily, her body still nestled comfortably in his arms.

"Xi'er, good morning," he said as he kissed her forehead and greeted her.

"Um. Good morning," she said as she woke up from bed.

"Do you wish to travel more?" He asked.

"Um. Two more days." She said.

They travelled for another two days, this time with a renewed sense of purpose.

They talked of the world beyond the Qingyun region, of the different sects and the vast array of cultivation techniques that interest her.

The journey was a delightful mix of excitement and tranquility. They stopped at quaint inns along the way, where Bai Yunxi would practice her newfound skills, her eyes alight with the thrill of progress.

Not just her cultivation speed but even her comprehension ability is very fast. She could easily learn cultivation techniques and skills now.

She is marvelling at the miraculous effects of the elixir. Her cultivation aptitude, perception ability, soul power, and physical body have become stronger.

"Husband, thank you for this amazing gift." She said as she finished reading a cultivation skill.

Su Kang didn't expect that pill to have such effects. The only drawback is that her qi cultivation realm has fallen a lot.

Her cultivation realm has gone back to her teenage years, or her body has been restored back to her teenage years.

Su Kang was happy for her and also realised why that pill was not suitable for him. If he even lost ten years of his cultivation, then he will be going back to the Qi refining stage.

He is only 24 years old now. If his body is gone decades back, then he might turn into a child. Both scenarios are unacceptable to him.

Su Kang smiled, reaching out to caress her hair. "You deserve it."

She blushed at his tenderness, then snuggled against him. This had become their nightly routine—discussing cultivation late into the night, embracing each other till dawn.

She closed her eyes, listening to his heartbeat. A sense of security, of belonging, settled within her.

As his hands caressed her head, a warmth spread through her, a connection that seemed to flow between their souls.

She felt seen, known, understood in a way she had never experienced before. She looked up at him, her heart swelling with affection, her gaze meeting his, a silent conversation passing between them.

"I think I will get addicted to this feeling," Bai Yunxi murmured softly, resting in Su Kang's embrace.

Su Kang chuckled, tightening his hold around her. "Good. Then I won't have to compete with talented young geniuses from the Central Plains for you."

She blinked, caught off guard by his words. "What do you mean?"

"You are beautiful and incredibly talented... There will come a time when powerful cultivators will seek your hand," he said, his tone laced with mock sorrow.

"Maybe you will realize I am not enough and leave me for someone greater."

She stared at him, utterly dumbfounded. They had only been married for a few days, and he was already talking like this?

"Do you really think I would do something like that?" she asked, eyes widening in disbelief.

Su Kang sighed dramatically.

"Powerful female cultivators... when they become the pillars of their sects, they often take multiple lovers or husbands. My wife might become like them one day."

Bai Yunxi's expression darkened. Betrayal. It was an absolute betrayal.

"You... You..." She suddenly bit his arm.

He didn't even flinch. Instead, he laughed heartily, stroking her hair as she continued gnawing on him in frustration.

"Sorry, sorry! Forgive me, Xi'er," he said, barely suppressing his amusement.

"You looked so cute just now—I couldn't help but tease you."

"I'm not talking to you anymore!" she huffed, pulling away.

He sighed and, in one smooth motion, grabbed her waist and jumped out of the window.

"W-What are you doing?!" she shrieked as they landed near a pond.

Su Kang spread out a cloth on the ground and lay down, pulling her down beside him.

"You're not mad at me, are you?" He asked with a playful smirk.

"How could I not be? You talked like that just now; it's not funny!" She huffed turning away.

Su Kang sighed, finally taking a more serious tone. "I didn't mean to upset you. I just wanted to lighten the mood."

She gave him a sidelong glance, her cheeks puffed in an adorable pout.

"I thought you were a gentleman, but now I realize I was fooled by you."

"Finally, you see it! I tricked you into marrying me," he declared dramatically.

"I don't have such blessings to deserve a wife like you otherwise."

She pinched his waist.

Then, in a more thoughtful voice, he murmured, "Sometimes... I'm really jealous of Li Xiao."

Bai Yunxi stiffened.

"If only you were born in a strong cultivation family," Su Kang continued, "then—"

She immediately covered his mouth with her hand.

The warmth of her palm against his lips made him pause. Her eyes, now held an unreadable emotion—a mixture of sadness, unwillingness, and something deeper.

For a long moment, they just stared at each other. The wind rustled the leaves, the gentle ripples in the pond reflecting the moonlight.

Su Kang slowly removed her hand but didn't continue speaking.

"I..."

She opened her mouth, but cut her words with his.

"I will not talk about past anymore."

He exhaled, then gently brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear. She nodded her head.

They didn't need to say more.

Instead, he pulled her into his embrace again, resting his chin on the top of her head.

"Look at the sky, Yunxi," he whispered. "Get addicted to this soon. If not, I fear that one day... you might seriously run away."

She didn't reply. But after a moment, she leaned into his warmth.

....

The next morning, they ended their travel and returned back to the village in the evening.

Su Kang decided to arrange a banquet for the villagers who took care of them.

He will leave the village in two days with Bai Yunxi and Madam An. The next day, a banquet will be arranged.

Bai Yunxi and he returned back to their residence in the outskirts. He guided her in the cultivation and explained many things.

Since her talent is improved, she is really working to become his strength in the future.

After that he embraced her to sleep. He is thinking about suitable cultivation skills and techniques for her.

Currently he is managing with the cultivation techniques of the Qingyun sect, but he doesn't have all the techniques of the sect.

The Su family didn't have any techniques suitable for her either. Right now her cultivation is low, so he can easily provide her resources.

The next morning he asked the old man He and Madam An prepared for the banquet. He asks Bai Yunxi to join him in Rift Valley City to buy ingredients.

They explore the city's bustling streets and the scent of spices. During their shopping trip, she encounters a person selling treasure maps in one shop.

Bai Yunxi's eyes lit up, like a child presented with a new toy. "Look, Husband!" she exclaimed, holding up a faded scroll depicting a hidden valley and a cryptic inscription.

"A map to a secret realm! We must go there! Just imagine the treasures we could find!" Su Kang, watching her with a mixture of amusement and exasperation, couldn't help but smile.

"Treasure maps are rarely what they seem," he said gently. "But... perhaps a little adventure wouldn't be amiss."

In the evening, the banquet was set up in the village square. The villagers had decorated it with colourful lanterns.

The smells of roasted meats and fragrant rice filled the air, mingling with the laughter of children playing nearby.

Su Kang and Bai Yunxi sat at the head of the table, receiving well-wishers and sharing stories of their journey.

They distributed the gifts among the villagers. The villagers were happy and decided to take care of their house in the outskirts for them.

Su Kang appreciates their thoughts and told them that in the future he and Bai Yunxi will visit this house to spend some time in the mundane world to relax.

He was already going to keep this house; now he will hand it over to them for maintenance. He will arrange a qi gathering array in his courtyard for them to cultivate.

Some of the village kids can practice with a peace of mind in his residence.

Soon the banquet ended, and villagers returned to their homes with smiles.
