Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 786 - 784_1
Noah Reyes’s handsome face twitched slightly. Why does everyone seem to be cursing my son?
His son was only five years old, yet they were already cursing him with a horde of rivals, saying he’d fail to win his wife?
Jimmy Horne touched his handsome face. Each uncle had pinched a cheek, making both sides of his face turn red. They were really strong, yet they claimed to love him, even with such heavy-handed pinches.
Those foxes! Cursing me that I won’t be able to catch Camila.
Wait a second, what does ’can’t catch Camila’ mean? I run faster than Camila; isn’t it Camila who can’t catch me?
No matter how clever the little guy was, he was still clueless about love.
The twins dashed into the house, followed by three other young masters, all of whom were very influential.
Noah Reyes tightened his embrace around his son again, tucking the boy’s face into his chest to prevent the remaining three brothers-in-law from pinching his precious son’s cheeks.
He looked towards James Horne. What demands will James have?
James Horne glanced at Glades Horne and then at Noah Reyes, pursed his lips, and remained silent.
Noah Reyes then looked at Marcel Horne.
Marcel Horne gestured for him to put Jimmy Horne down.
Noah Reyes raised an eyebrow. Is this second brother-in-law looking for a fight? If it’s a fight he wants, I’m not afraid.
He put his son down to stand by his side, then said politely to Marcel Horne, "Kill me or cut me up; do as you please."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Marcel Horne threw a punch...
"Marcel."
Ruby Bluen urgently called out in a low voice.
Then she hurriedly walked up the steps, tugged at Noah Reyes, and stood in front of Marcel Horne. She gently pulled down Marcel’s fist, softly saying, "It’s the first day of the New Year, the children are all here, let’s not resort to violence."
"If I don’t give him a good beating, I’ll still be furious. Otherwise, he can forget about entering the house to see Adele," Marcel Horne growled resentfully.
Glades Horne had once beaten up Noah Reyes for his sister, but Marcel hadn’t landed a single punch yet.
Hearing this, Noah Reyes immediately stepped forward to face him again, saying expressionlessly, "Second Brother, go ahead. I absolutely won’t fight back."
"Who’s your Second Brother? Don’t call me Second Brother," Marcel Horne growled.
This tough man was not adept at expressing his emotions. He couldn’t voice how much he ached for his sister, but he deeply empathized with her grievances. He didn’t know how else to challenge Noah Reyes; only by beating him up did he feel he might obtain some justice for his sister.
No matter Noah Reyes’s reasons for leaving back then, he was the one who had caused his sister to become pregnant before marriage and endure such grievances; that was an unchangeable fact.
So, he was determined to seek justice for his sister.
"Marcel," Ruby softly called out.
"Ruby, step aside," Glades Horne, who understood his cousin’s temperament, finally said, his voice deep and cold.
Ruby Bluen looked worriedly at Noah Reyes. Her own path to love with Marcel Horne had been extremely arduous. Even though she didn’t know Noah Reyes well, she sympathized with her sister-in-law, Adele, and this prospective brother-in-law, so she wanted to do her best to help him.
"Sis, don’t worry. If he can’t get past them, he really shouldn’t see Adele anymore," Julia said, walking up the steps with her pregnant belly and pulling her sister into the house. As they passed Glades Horne, she gave him a look that clearly meant ’that’s enough.’
With the Bluen sisters inside, no one in the courtyard would plead for Noah Reyes anymore, and no one could change the minds of the eldest and second Horne brothers.
Noah Reyes looked at Marcel Horne and said coldly, "Please."
Marcel Horne’s stern and resolute face watched him. Noah stood completely undefended, looking ready to accept whatever came his way, be it wind or rain. A glimmer of admiration flashed deep in Marcel’s eyes. This man, at least in matters of love, is much braver than I was back then.
Marcel Horne threw a total of five punches at Noah Reyes, leaving his face swollen and his nose bruised. He said each punch represented one year; five punches for five years, to make up for the five years of suffering Adele had endured as a single mother.
Noah Reyes didn’t fight back, taking all five punches.
His four bodyguards repeatedly suppressed their urge to intervene, desperate to help, but he sharply ordered them to stand down.
"Daddy," Jimmy Horne cried out, the most distressed of all. This little guy treasured his father as if he were life itself. It was understandable—he had longed for a father for so many years. Now that he finally knew he had one, and his mommy had confirmed it, how could he not see his father as vitally important?
Seeing his uncle hitting his father naturally distressed him.
But on one hand were his uncles, who treated him like their own son, and on the other, his father, bound by blood. Who should I help?
I can’t really go against my uncles for Daddy’s sake. Besides, I’m still small; I can’t take them on anyway.
"Billy, Daddy’s fine," Noah Reyes said, wiping the blood from his nose and soothing his son despite his pain.
Jimmy Horne tenderly reached out his small hand to gently caress his father’s face, swollen from Marcel’s blows, and said with understanding, "Daddy, Billy doesn’t blame Daddy." No matter how much the adults felt Daddy had wronged him and Mommy, he didn’t blame Daddy. He truly didn’t!
Noah Reyes was moved once again.
His son’s intelligence, his understanding, never failed to touch him deeply.
After Marcel Horne had thrown his five punches, he said nothing more and turned to go inside, pulling James Horne along with him.
Glades Horne still stood at the door.
Noah Reyes picked up his son again and faced Glades Horne, bracing himself for this most somber and domineering eldest brother-in-law to make things difficult.
Unexpectedly, Glades Horne sighed heavily and said, "A grown daughter will eventually marry out; you’ll need to put in extra effort. I don’t want to keep her to the point it breeds resentment. Seeing you return alive to be with your wife and child, I consider my responsibility fulfilled. As for betrothal gifts, verbal agreements aren’t enough. You must choose an auspicious day to personally present them for the engagement. And the wedding—it’s essential. It must be a wedding that stuns all of T City. I want everyone who gossiped about Adele to know that my sister, Glades Horne’s sister, can marry the best man in the world!"
Noah Reyes looked straight at Glades Horne, then extended his hand. Glades Horne extended his too. The two men, equally imposing, equally capable, and once rivals, clasped hands firmly.
"Everything we say is just talk; what matters is Adele," Glades Horne said, stepping aside to let Noah Reyes into the house.
After all, another challenge awaited Noah Reyes inside—the elders.
If he could get past the five brothers, he believed Noah Reyes would pass the elders’ trial with ease.
In reality, their approval wasn’t the most important thing; Adele’s heart was.
If Noah Reyes couldn’t secure Adele’s forgiveness, even if her entire family accepted him, it would be meaningless.
Mila Anderson was the one who disliked Noah Reyes the most.
