I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]-Chapter 274: Bring Her to Me
The rest of the tea party was like a blur. Did it drag on again, or did it pass quickly? Honestly, Felix himself didn’t know. After Kade’s unfortunate short exchange with Wilder about Vivi, his parents took over the conversation. Kade had listened to Felix and filled them in on what was going on, so they were no longer surprised. Lorelei smoothly navigated through it. Although she hadn’t been able to gain any advantage (at least not yet), she didn’t let Wilder triumph in any way either.
And that was already an improvement from the previous days, both the welcome lunch, and the private conversations Felix, and then Kade, had with Wilder.
Well, that was to be expected. Wilder might have known how to play his cards well, but Einar and Lorelei were no pushovers either, quite the opposite. As the leader and the Luna of one of the supreme packs, naturally, they were skilled in negotiations. No matter what arguments Wilder had to bring Felix back to the Moonhill Pack, they would never let him feel like he had an upper hand. Or, at least that he had a significant advantage - a few times Lorelei played it off as if she was a little bit unsure, but that was just to lower Wilder’s guard.
All things considered, nothing much happened. Throughout the whole conversation, Wilder hadn’t brought up the mysterious condition plaguing Felix’s mother’s side of the family or the remedy he had found for it at all. Why? Felix wasn’t sure. But the whole tea party was like that, just talking in circles, hinting at things before withdrawing, neither side stating their plans, wishes, or arguments straightforwardly...
It further reinforced Felix’s opinion that a life of the Luna of the pack was not for him. He understood why his father and Kade’s parents were being so subtle about it all, it was all a part of a strategy, feeling out their ’opponents’ before making any concrete moves... But it was all so exhausting. He had also done similar things in the past, at least to some extent, when dealing with other Omegas, but he disliked it back then as well.
He wasn’t made for politics and diplomacy, that’s for sure.
Eventually, though, this torture called the ’tea party’ finally concluded, and he was finally allowed to leave.
"Make sure to bring my granddaughter to me!" Wilder reminded him, as they were walking out of the reception room. "I would truly want to meet her soon!"
"...Right." Felix just nodded his head, unable to suppress his scowl. Of course, he had no intention of showing Vivi to Wilder if he could help it...
"How about you go pick her up and come back now?" Wilder suggested, as if reading Felix’s mind.
"It’s her afternoon nap time," Felix answered almost instantly.
Was it really? He wasn’t sure, actually, since he hadn’t even bothered to glance at the clock.
"How about after the nap, then?" Wilder was relentless.
"I’m afraid I won’t have any time then..."
"That’s not a problem. You can just ask her nanny to bring her to me. Of course, I would prefer it if you came to meet me as well, but if you don’t have time, then Vivi alone is enough for me..."
Felix’s face turned ugly. Let his father spend time alone with Vivi?
NEVER!
Wilder never got to see his expression, though (even though it was kind of obvious), because just then, Kade swept in, wrapping his arm around Felix.
"I don’t think it’s a good idea. As I’ve said before, Vivi is not good with unfamiliar people... I’m afraid the meeting would be too stressful for her without Felix," he smiled at Wilder apologetically. "Now, if you excuse us..."
Felix glanced at the hand on his shoulder, but he didn’t oppose it. Quite the opposite, he leaned into it, as he let Kade lead him away. They were still within his father’s view, so it was best to show off just how close and affectionate they were...
Or was it? Honestly, Felix didn’t know...
But, truth be told, it felt good to have someone to lean on. And it felt nice to lean on Kade...
They walked away, just the two of them, until they were at the door. There, Kade quickly glanced around to check if there was anyone around, before leaning down.
"I’m going to go back now to try to find an opportunity," he whispered, his hot breath brushing against Felix’s ear, and making his heart skip a beat. Which was so out of place - they were in such a serious, uncertain situation, and yet his body was still reacting to the Alpha’s proximity? No matter how hot Kade was, it was simply ridiculous! - but what could Felix do? He could smell Kade’s sandalwood pheromones, and feel his strong arm wrapped around him, it was only natural for his cheeks to flush in response.
It was also only natural for his mind to go blank for a minute, causing a visible delay between the moment that Kade had spoken, and the moment that his words registered in Felix’s brain. When they finally did, he just nodded his head, trying to ignore the smile that blossomed on the Alpha’s lips, hinting that he noticed Felix’s reaction.
"Alright. Do your best, I’m waiting," he muttered, pushing Kade’s arm off of himself. They were already at the entrance, after all, out of his father’s view, and they had to part ways here anyway! There was no need to cling so close together any longer, now was it?
Kade pouted in response to being pushed away, only for a moment, though, since he could tell that it wasn’t working on Felix anyway. So, instead, he puffed his chest, "Don’t worry about it. You can count on me!"
What he got in return was a roll of the eyes from Felix, but also a hint of a smile. Because, no matter how ridiculous Kade often was, deep down Felix knew that the Alpha was dependable...
