Chapter 40: Brewing Troubles... The Calm Before The Storm...

After careful analysis, Kranos realized two crucial things. From his previous encounter, he already suspected that the creature had a way to observe everything that occurred within the city. If that were true, then it must also possess the ability to temporarily suppress the Gu worms’ effects.

Of course, the idea that the subordinates themselves could suppress the Gu worms crossed his mind. But on further thought, why would the creature allow such a dangerous loophole? If its subordinates could suppress the Gu worms freely, they might easily escape its control. After thoroughly analyzing the situation, Kranos calmed his thoughts and decided to rest. Despite knowing how dangerous the city was, his child’s body couldn’t take any more stress. Even though he was a reincarnated old man, his physical and mental stamina were still bound by the limits of a child.

He had barely slept for weeks, and the exhaustion had taken its toll.

...

The next day passed uneventfully. Kranos knew a war was coming. Since there was nothing he could do to stop it at the moment, he chose to focus on cultivating. He considered asking Ju Ming for some resources but decided against it. The Safe Haven had likely endured for so long thanks to its accumulated resources—he didn’t want to place more burden on them.

Even though the chaotic environment made it difficult to absorb mana, Kranos purified what he could and continued cultivating diligently. He had a guess that the creature wasn’t from this world so he didn’t want to expose too much of his time cultivation and abilities.

Like that, day after day passed. Kranos was now in the ninth stage of foundation establishment, and almost four months had gone by. In this period of time, kranos had been cultivating, reading books, and living quite carefree, but his heart had been tense because the city was calm... too calm.

Aside from a few corrupted individuals that had been exposed and executed, there had been no signs of conflict. But Kranos knew this was merely the calm before the storm—and that knowledge made him deeply anxious. Taking a deep breath, he stared out the window. The city bustled with life under a purplish sky. Evening was approaching.

If it wasn’t for the fact that these purple suns signify something terrifying, they would have looked... beautiful? Kranos watched silently. People were smiling, working, and living normal lives; they didn’t have to worry about being killed. kranos honestly wished the whole world could be as peaceful, but he knew it was a pipe dream. When humans decide to reach the level of gods, why won’t the gods punish them in different ways?

While kranos was lost in thought, just then, a loud heartbeat echoed through the city. Kranos’s eyes widened. "It’s here..." he muttered in disbelief, the war was finally here! He immediately stood up with a solemn expression, even though he hadn’t seen it yet, he knew his worries weren’t unfounded.

Along with the heartbeat came sounds of countless creatures marching forward. kranos even wondered for a moment if this city could survive this... He wanted to break through to the golden core realm before the battle but he didn’t expect it to start so abruptly. Fortunately, i have some means to protect myself now, kranos muttered inwardly while rushing out of his house.

As soon as he rushed out, he heard panic cries ringing aaround;some parents held their children’s hands and rushed back home, they could tell that something terrifying was about to happen. Kranos scaled through the crowd, heading straight for the City Lord’s mansion.

It wasn’t far from his house, only a few meters, and kranos wanted to minimize his use of mana; he knew that in this battle he had to be prudent. After running for a few minutes, kranos reached the city lord’s mansion. His speed had increased greatly due to his cultivation, if it were before, he would have taken almost thirty minutes to reach the mansion at full speed.

As soon as he entered the main hall, he saw that the city lord, ju ming was seated along with several elders; their expressions were extremely solemn.

"City lord, what is going on?" seeing everyone’s eexpression, kranos heart tightened as he asked.

Ju Ming didn’t respond with words. Instead, he tossed Kranos a mana device shaped like a laptop. Over the past four months, Kranos had learned how to operate them—infuse mana, and the device could transmit long-distance messages, display visuals, and even project images captured from afar.

On the screen of the mana device, the image sent chills down his spine, it displayed Thousands of corrupted beings—beasts, trees, and even humans—marching toward the Safe Haven. The corrupted trees were pitch-black with hints of purple, unlike any Kranos had encountered before. The animals and humans bore the same eerie characteristics.

Kranos watched in shock as they marched forward towards the safe haven. From the view of the mana device, kranos could see that it was being projected from the barrier outside the city.

So the barrier had this function as well? Kranos mused, but the next moment his expression changed drastically. What is that? Kranos hadn’t seen it before because he didn’t pay attention to it but behind the horde of creatures was a thick, blackish-purple mass that was moving in mid-air. flight? Dao palace! Kranos was stunned and horrified.

He had expected the beast to be strong but he was only expecting it to be at the golden core realm! He didn’t expect that the beast could already fly and was at the dao palace realm, he, a weak foundation establishment, would be crushed in its entirety without any chance to react!

Suddenly, from within the swirling mist, a massive eyeball emerged—glaring as if it sensed the spying device. From miles away, its gaze pierced through the distance, landing directly on the barrier.

Outside, at the top corner of the protective wall, a small crack formed.

Meanwhile, Kranos was shocked to see an eyeball poke out from the mist. The next moment he felt something was wrong when the eye glanced in his direction as though it was staring directly into his soul—not good! Kranos was horrified!
