Chapter 88: Chapter 86: The Son Is Born, So Am I Unnecessary Now?

He frowned slightly. His figure materialized at Celeste Grant’s residence, and he walked inside. A moment later, Javier Sinclair was surveying the place with a grim expression.

He saw that the woman’s things were all gone. So were the kid’s clothes and his everyday items—all packed up and taken away.

They hadn’t even left the blanket on the bed.

The entire bedchamber was now completely empty.

It was as if no one had ever lived here.

’Where’d that woman run off to with the kid, instead of staying home?’

A thought occurred to Javier Sinclair.

’When Celeste Grant first came to me, all she asked for was my protection for a little while. So now that she has her Cultivation and has given birth to our son, am I just useless? Did she just take him and leave?’

Staring at the empty room, Javier Sinclair was so furious he laughed.

He clenched his fists, and a layer of black-red flames coiled around his body, adding the air of a vicious demon to his already grim face.

’Does she think this is a place she can just come and go as she pleases?’

He strode out the door.

He called out.

"Someone!"

The pair of sisters who served here hurried over, their heads bowed respectfully.

"This servant greets The Exalted One."

"This servant greets The Exalted One."

Javier Sinclair glanced at them.

The two of them were so frightened their legs gave out, and they fell to their knees.

"Where is your lady?"

Hearing the question, the sisters breathed an inward sigh of relief.

One of them hurriedly spoke up, "The Exalted One, the lady packed her things and took the Young Master home... Right, right, back to her maiden home. The Left Protector went with them. The lady said that since the Young Master was born, he hasn’t met his maternal grandparents yet, so she’s taking him to see her parents."

Javier Sinclair froze.

’Back to her maiden home?’

’She has a family to go back to?’

He reached up and scratched his head.

’So, she didn’t run away with the kid! She just went home. I guess I really never did ask about her family.’

’In that case, I should probably go too, right?’

At this thought, his face turned cold. "That woman just left on her own. If she’d bothered to say a word, did she think I wouldn’t have gone with her, or that I would have stopped her?"

’If word of this gets out, people will say I’m mistreating her.’

After a moment of silence, he flicked his sleeve.

He raised his hand slightly, pressing his fingers together and bringing them up before his eyes.

He sent out a call.

"Elder Lawson, make preparations. We depart for Daxton."

On the other end, Elder Lawson immediately received the telepathic message.

"You’re going to retrieve the lady, aren’t you, Exalted One? Heh, I knew it! Your subordinate has already made preparations in advance and arranged for plenty of manpower. I guarantee everyone will see at a glance how much you value her. Oh, and I also had people select some gifts from the treasury. It’s The Exalted One’s first visit to his in-laws; we of the Bloodfiend Den can’t be lacking in courtesy."

Javier Sinclair: "..."

’Are my subordinates all this idle? They’re more enthusiastic about that woman’s affairs than I am.’

’Is this still my Bloodfiend Den, or has it changed masters already?’

’I’m getting the distinct feeling my status in this family is plummeting.’

"Elder Lawson, whose side are you on, exactly?"

He heard Elder Lawson’s voice swearing an oath in his mind.

"My loyalty to you is unwavering, Exalted One! Heaven and earth can attest to it!"

Hah.

"You talk a good game. Fine. Bring the two milk-producing Spirit Beasts."

"Yes, Exalted One."

「Later that day.」

A Spiritual Ship slowly ascended into the air, leaving Bloodfiend City and heading toward the distant land of Daxton.

The Spiritual Ship was massive. It flew the black-and-red banner of the Bloodfiend Den, and its hull was adorned with numerous skulls and other sinister decorations.

It was grand, imposing, and thoroughly impressive.

Disciples of the Bloodfiend Den stood at various points on the ship. Dressed in black, every one of them looked like someone you shouldn’t cross.

At that moment, at the very top of the ship, just beneath the banner, Javier Sinclair was lounging.

He was dressed in dark robes, his ink-black hair bound by a crown at the back of his head, with the rest of it spilling casually over his shoulders.

One leg dangled over the side of the ship while the other was propped up on the edge, a hand resting casually on his knee. Not far from him perched a small chick with a tuft of red feathers on its head—it was the still-young Vermilion.

A gentle breeze stirred, making his robes flutter.

’Since I’m heading to her place, I should probably let the kid’s mother know.’

After a moment of silence, Javier Sinclair stretched out his hand.

He took out his phone.

He infused a bit of Spiritual Power into the phone with his finger, and once it turned on, he placed a video call to Celeste Grant. As long as you knew someone’s Spirit Card ID, you could contact them.

’Have to admit, that woman can be quite clever sometimes. This "phone" thing she created is actually pretty useful. It’s so convenient for finding people—you just have to make a call.’

’Simple, practical functions, and easy to use.’

Soon, the phone screen lit up, and Celeste Grant’s face appeared.

Perhaps not expecting his call, she leaned closer to the screen for a moment, then waved a greeting. "Exalted One, what’s up?"

Seeing her face so close, Javier Sinclair subconsciously pulled the phone back a bit. Only then did he speak. "So, I can only call you when I need something?"

Celeste Grant’s voice came through the phone.

"That’s not what I meant."

"You went home?"

"Yeah. I was going to tell you, but you weren’t around. I figured you might be busy, so I didn’t want to disturb you and just left."

Then she found herself asking, "Where have you been these past few days, Exalted One?"

"Killing people."

Celeste Grant: "..."

"Okay, never mind I asked. If you wanted to see Annie, he’s not here right now. He went out to play with Nerida."

Javier Sinclair let out a cold laugh.

"Mm."

He responded curtly.

As Celeste Grant spoke with him, she noticed he seemed to be on a Spiritual Ship. Clouds and mist swirled around him, and the background was a beautiful sea of clouds. She couldn’t help but stare for an extra second or two. ’It feels like I’m scrolling through videos and suddenly stumbled upon a handsome, historical-style cosplayer.’

’The main thing is, the man on the screen has this look that’s both noble and wicked... It makes me feel like one of my anime husbands just came to life.’

At this thought, she asked, "Where are you? The view is really nice. It looks like you’re on a Spiritual Ship?"

Javier Sinclair nodded slightly. He switched the phone’s camera and panned it to the side. "See now?"

Celeste Grant nodded.

"Yep, yep, I see it! So where are you off to? You seem busy."

Hearing this, he just stated matter-of-factly, "As long as you saw. I’ll be at your place after midnight." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Celeste Grant, who had been nodding along agreeably, froze when she heard him say that.

’Wait, what?’

"Wait a minute..."

When she processed it, she craned her neck. "You said you’re coming? Here? To my family’s home?"

’Are pigs flying? Or did hell freeze over?’

’Why would The Archfiend even think of coming to my home? Shouldn’t he be sitting all high and mighty on his throne of skulls?’

Javier Sinclair saw the look on her face, as if she’d just seen a ghost, and said coldly, "What, am I not allowed to come? That look on your face... you think I’m not worthy?"
