Chapter 938: Chapter 938: The Crown Prince’s Wife is Very Unreasonable_1
Jiang Yi rapidly pulled Jiang Ning behind him, protecting her while also brandishing a small knife from his waist, he adopted a defensive posture against the unknown figure.
“Third Master, Seventh Miss, it’s me.”
As the figure came into view, revealing his face, it turned out to be Gufeng.
Gufeng was dressed in men’s clothing but had an immaculately pale face still retaining an effeminate touch.
Jiang Ning peeked her head out from behind Jiang Yi and asked in surprise, “Gufeng, why are you here? How did you know I was here?”
When Gufeng saw they were safe and sound, he sighed with relief and said with a smile, “The Crown Prince arranged for me to come.”
“He?”
Jiang Ning and Jiang Yi exchanged a glance, then understanding dawned on them.
They deduced that ever since Li Hongyuan had prepared Jieming’s documents, they knew that Li Hongyuan likely had his own preparations in place even if they made no move.
He dispatched Gufeng, undoubtedly out of concern for their safety, to protect them.
Gufeng continued, “The Crown Prince said it was unlike you to be out of the palace for the day, Miss Seventh. He urged that I escort you back. I wasn’t certain where to find you, but the Crown Prince said you might be found at Lingshan Temple.”
Gufeng looked somewhat bewildered, “I didn’t expect to find you and the Third Master hiding out here. So, what is it you’re trying to do? Climb walls?”
“Just watching the show.”
“Miss Seventh, let me give you a hand.” Gufeng promptly helped Jiang Ning to the top of the wall, even removing his outer robe and spreading it over the wall to keep her skirt clean.
Jiang Yi soon joined her on the wall, sitting side by side, watching as Prince Wutong’s men, carrying lanterns, stormed into Lingshan Temple, shouting loudly.

The monks in the temple were rushing around in panic.
A few warrior monks quickly started arguing with Prince Wutong’s men, inevitably causing disturbance which alerted Master Jieming.
Master Jieming hurried over in a fluster, wearing only a grey monk’s robe and half-wearing his shoes—his demeanor somewhat distraught.
Jiang Ning noticed this clearly and quietly remarked, “This old fellow must have just come out from that secret room, right? He’s even put his shoes on the wrong feet.”
Jiang Yi patted his sister’s head, “Let’s not concern ourselves with his dirty business. Do you think Prince Wutong dares to storm into Jieming’s courtyard for a search? After all, Jieming is the Emperor’s proxy. Unless there’s sufficient reason, a hard charge can’t be easily executed.”
“Somebody will give him the reason.”
Without waiting for Jiang Yi to speak, a man in official blue robes sprang forth, waving his arms and shouting at Jieming, “Master Jieming! How dare you shelter robbers who have grafted from the official treasury? Prince Wutong, you’ve arrived just in time. Please conduct the search!”
Jieming kept a solemn face, “For a sixth-ranked official like you to stir up trouble in the Lingshan Temple… ”
The official sneered, “What of it? I’ve impeached the Senior Grand Secretary in the Cabinet, and advised my Master, the Emperor. Think I’d be scared of a corrupt monk?”
“Sir Imperial Censor, when accusing someone, you need to provide evidence, otherwise it’s slander!”
“I’ve got documentary proof of you exploiting the drought to block relief, forcing farmers to sell their lands at a low cost, and consolidating lands. A monk like you is engaging in these damaging and harmful deeds to the people! Searching you, would that be wronging you?!”
Jiang Ning exclaimed in surprise, “This Imperial Censor is not bad, he even has such evidence. Was he prepared in advance?”
Jiang Yi appeared to be puzzled as well.
The Emperor dislikes aristocrats and ministers who force farmers to sell their land at low prices, effectively turning them to tenants. This old monk isn’t a merchant or an official, but is supposed to be leading an ascetic life on behalf of the Emperor. Yet, he dared to commit such an act.
If this news spread out, wouldn’t it tarnish the Emperor’s reputation?
No wonder this Imperial Censor appeared fearless.
