Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect-Chapter 601: The Sacred Beasts
When John woke up, it was already 5:00 PM.
He looked around at the familiar decorations, remembering clearly that he’d fallen asleep in the second-floor villa on Trial Island. But the current decor... looked like somewhere he’d been before, though he couldn’t quite place it.
"Right, I was supposed to go to Sky Island today," John suddenly remembered.
His flight had been scheduled for 8:00 AM.
He hurriedly grabbed his phone to check the time. 5:00 PM.
"Five in the evening?! Why didn’t anyone wake me up?" John’s eyes widened. This wasn’t just about being late, he vaguely remembered Emerald had scheduled work meetings for the World Tournament staff. Wouldn’t Emerald be complaining about him nonstop now?
"Gerde~" Gardevoir gently indicated something with a soft sound.
"Ah, thank you." John understood immediately. Gardevoir had directly teleported him to The World Tournament located on Sky Island, while he slept, which is why no one had woken him. They’d let him sleep in.
"How considerate—"
"Marshadow!" Marshadow suddenly burst into the room, its small shadowy form bouncing with urgency.
’I can sense the auras of Ho-Oh’s guardian beasts! They seem to be nearby!’
Although John didn’t particularly care about Pokemon like Entei, Raikou, and Suicune in terms of battle strength, he did need to gather all three to gain their "approval" before he could meet Ho-Oh, thanks to the Rainbow Feather’s requirements.
Might as well capture all three.
It would satisfy his collector’s passion while also obtaining their "approval."
Two birds with one stone.
"Let’s go!" John immediately sprang out of bed, accepting the jacket Gardevoir handed him and putting it on. He flew directly out from the second-floor balcony.
Through his familiarity with the three sacred orbs’ powers, John had gradually mastered some of their unique applications.
For instance, using the Blue Orb to condense a small rain cloud overhead to cool down the temperature, then using the Red Orb to dry his clothes and hair. Or using the Emerald Orb to make himself levitate and fly.
The only problem was that flying this way wasn’t particularly fast.
Following Marshadow’s lead, John and Gardevoir flew behind, heading toward the source of the legendary auras.
What they found were two legendary beasts facing each other in confrontation, Entei and Raikou.
The two Pokemon stood face-to-face, clearly in the middle of some conflict. A human stood between them, apparently trying to mediate.
John recognized this person immediately, it was the Draconia’s former Champion, "Magnus Valaestrum"
John and Marshadow’s arrival immediately drew the attention of both legendary Pokemon and Magnus.
"John! Perfect timing, help me stop them!" Magnus frantically waved, calling John over.
John descended from the air, nearly having forgotten that Raikou had already been captured by Magnus. Duringthier battle, Damien had even used Raikou to fight against him.
"What happened?" John asked.
The former champion scratched his head awkwardly. "I’m not entirely sure myself. It seems because Raikou became my partner, Entei came looking for us."
John stroked his chin thoughtfully. If Magnus hadn’t mentioned it, John would have nearly forgotten this detail.
In the anime, and apparently in this world as well, the three sacred beasts rarely traveled alongside humans. As Ho-Oh’s guardian beasts, resurrected by Ho-Oh’s power, they existed solely to carry out Ho-Oh’s commands across the land. They wouldn’t become anyone’s partner Pokemon under normal circumstances.
When Entei noticed Marshadow appearing beside this human, it immediately began to suspect that this person might be the Rainbow Hero chosen by Ho-Oh.
Very quickly, Entei definitively sensed the Rainbow Feather’s aura emanating from John. Its gaze shifted from cautious assessment to more direct scrutiny.
John reached down to his belt and grabbed a Pokeball.
There was nothing more to say. Whether it was stopping Entei and Raikou from fighting, or obtaining Entei’s approval, everything ultimately came down to battle. Battle was the trainer’s method of communication.
"Don’t fight here! The island hasn’t been reinforced!" Magnus hurriedly intervened. The reason he hadn’t directly battled Entei was precisely because he was afraid of completely wrecking the World Tournament Battle facility.
"Gengar!" John called out. If they couldn’t fight on the floating island, then they’d simply move somewhere else.
"Kekeke~!" The purple blob poked its head out from John’s shadow, grinning widely, its face full of mischief.
Very quickly, a massive hole appeared beneath everyone’s feet, accompanied by a slight pulling force that sucked all the people and Pokemon inside.
The scenery changed! The Distortion World!
Gengar selected an enormous floating rock platform within the Distortion World. Everyone landed on the floating rock without suffering any damage whatsoever.
Entei and Raikou immediately turned their attention toward the distant darkness, where they could sense a terrifying presence. With their extensive experience and knowledge accumulated over long years, it wasn’t difficult to asses, this was Giratina’s domain, the Distortion World!
"Blaziken, I’m counting on you!" John threw the Pokeball in his hand.
A mass of scorching flames crashed to the ground, expanding with violent force that shot skyward. Within the rolling inferno, Blaziken stood tall, its aura spreading like a tidal wave, completely overwhelming the presence of both legendary Pokemon, Entei and Raikou.
Magnus couldn’t afford to observe the surrounding environment. As a former Champion, he was extremely sensitive to Pokemon auras.
He could clearly perceive that this Blaziken’s aura far exceeded both Entei and Raikou’s!
While aura didn’t completely represent battle strength, it was still a significant indicator.
"He’s gotten even stronger than before..." Magnus’s gaze grew complex as he looked at John. He remembered that John’s ace wasn’t even Blaziken, it was that Greninja capable of Mega Evolution, or that Shiny Zeraora!
But seeing this Blaziken’s overwhelming presence, Damien realized with certainty: John had reached a level he could no longer comprehend.
