Chapter 533 - Guardian deity's gift

"Altaria, Roost."

After issuing the command, Terrance let out a breath and said to Tapu Koko, "Looks like I lost. However, this battle was a bit rushed. I hope we get a chance to have a proper match where we can both go all out."

Although Terrance didn't know why Tapu Koko had sought him out, he wasn't satisfied with this battle.

After all, opportunities to battle powerful Pokémon were rare for him.

If it weren't for the fact that this place was unsuitable, Terrance would have even considered having Altaria undergo Mega Evolution to properly face Melemele Island's guardian deity!

Swish!

To Terrance's shock, in the next instant, Tapu Koko suddenly appeared right in front of him. Startled, Terrance instinctively took a small step back. However, Tapu Koko didn't make any aggressive moves. Instead, it extended its fingertip and pointed at Terrance's wrist.

"Uh?" Terrance was momentarily confused, then quickly realized—it was pointing right at his Mega Ring!

"You want to see this?" He lifted his sleeve slightly, allowing Tapu Koko to take a better look. Tapu Koko nodded, then, before Terrance could react, it swiftly tapped the ring. The next moment, a faint glow emanated from Terrance's Mega Ring!

"This..." Terrance's heart surged with emotions, unable to understand why his bracelet had undergone such a surprising change.

That didn't make sense—Tapu Koko hadn't released any Fairy energy, so why had the ring reacted like this?

Just as Terrance was about to question Tapu Koko, it turned away without hesitation and flew straight back into the forest. The words Terrance had intended to say got stuck in his throat, unable to be spoken.

The glow on the Mega Ring quickly faded, but Terrance could feel that some unknown and significant change had occurred to it—whether good or bad, he couldn't tell.

"What happened here?"

A loud exhaust noise broke the silence. Terrance lowered his arm and looked toward the rapidly approaching Officer Jenny, who was riding a motorcycle. Feeling a bit awkward, he greeted her, "Officer Jenny..."

"Who are you? What happened here? Show me your ID."

Officer Jenny, who had been on duty nearby, rushed over immediately upon hearing the commotion. When she saw the injured Altaria on the ground and the surrounding forest wrecked into a mess, her brow furrowed into a deep scowl as she questioned him sharply.

"ID..." Terrance was briefly stunned, then let out an "Ah."

Since obtaining the Pokédex, his identification had been registered on it—after all, carrying everything together was more convenient. But right now, the Pokédex was with Professor Kukui. Seeing Officer Jenny's furious expression, Terrance was at a loss for words. Even his other forms of identification were temporarily stored in his luggage, which was currently back at the school.

"I forgot to bring it," Terrance said helplessly.

"Officer Jenny, let me explain. First, Melemele Island's guardian deity, Tapu Koko, suddenly appeared in front of me and requested a battle. So, I had Altaria fight Tapu Koko. The destruction you see here is all a result of the battle's aftermath."

Officer Jenny's expression remained unchanged. "ID?"

Tapu Koko requesting a battle with a human? Officer Jenny wasn't about to believe that explanation so easily.

"Alright, alright... I get it. Can I at least make a call to Professor Kukui?"

15 minutes later.

Professor Kukui quickly rushed over. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Professor Kukui, you're finally here! Did you bring my Pokédex?" Terrance asked hurriedly.

"Your Pokédex? It's currently being modified, so it won't be usable for a while," Professor Kukui said as soon as he arrived, leaving Terrance utterly speechless.

Fortunately, with Professor Kukui vouching for him, Officer Jenny finally listened to Terrance's explanation.

"If that's really the case, then there's nothing that could've been done. I misunderstood," Officer Jenny has already calmed down, "If someone refuses Tapu Koko's requests, it could lead to even more serious consequences."

Terrance could only give a forced smile.

"Professor Kukui, sorry for troubling you with this," Officer Jenny said apologetically.

Since it involved Tapu Koko, the incident—despite causing significant damage to a section of the forest—was ultimately not pursued further.

Terrance, however, felt exasperated. Back in Hoenn, battles weren't monitored this strictly—who would have thought that battling in the Alola region came with so many rules?

As Terrance and Professor Kukui headed back, the professor chuckled and said, "Actually, small-scale battles aren't usually a problem. You probably just caused too much of a commotion."

The corner of Terrance's mouth twitched as he spoke, "Maybe."

"But... did Tapu Koko really seek you out?" Professor Kukui gave Terrance a deep look. "Tapu Koko rarely battles Trainers."

"After all, not many Trainers can pique its interest... The question is, when did it start paying attention to you?"

When...

Terrance didn't know either. He instinctively touched his wrist and then changed the subject. "Professor Kukui, how is the Pokédex modification coming along?"

"It's going smoothly. It should be completed by tomorrow," Professor Kukui replied.

...

Early the next morning.

Or rather, before the sun had even risen, Terrance woke up early and went alone to a desolate area.

"Altaria."

Summoning Altaria, Terrance revealed the Mega Ring on his wrist and said, "Something about this bracelet might have changed. I suspect it has to do with the Sparkling Stone."

Sparkling Stone is a unique resource native to the Alola region, and Tapu Koko is the guardian deity of one of Alola's islands. The connection between the two gave Terrance a strange feeling.

Since returning the previous day, he had been pondering whether his bracelet had undergone some kind of change.

Before this, he had also been looking for information about Fairy-type Z-Moves through various means. With the help of Professor Kukui, who specialized in researching moves, it hadn't taken him much effort.

However, the final result surprised Terrance greatly. He had initially thought Altaria's starlight "mutated Moonblast" was an Alola's Z-Move. But after comparing it to "Twinkle Tackle," he realized that the two techniques only bore about 20% resemblance in appearance, while everything else was completely different. The move Altaria performed seemed more like a weakened version.

"Compared to traditional Z-Moves, the power boost of Altaria's mutated move seems much smaller as well," Terrance frowned.

A bracelet made from Sparkling Stone—yet different from Alola's traditional craftsmanship used to create Z-Rings—what kind of change did it actually bring?

Taking out some time, Terrance immediately headed to an uninhibited location, intending to test it out.
