Chapter 468 - The Scapegoat Hero

Snap!!

Amidst the howling winds from all directions, a series of small yet chaotic noises mixed within.

The shockwaves from the wind and sea waves surged toward the ship almost instantly. The raging force made many people cry out in shock as they clung even tighter to whatever they could hold onto!

Countless people felt as if their entire bodies were about to be blown apart. The bone-chilling gusts made them shiver uncontrollably. Faces filled with terror, they couldn't help but shut their eyes, unwilling to witness the horrifying scene they imagined in their minds.

However, as time passed, someone finally realized that something was off.

It seemed... the commotion had stopped?

As the first person slowly opened their eyes, many others gradually calmed down and looked around...

"This..."

"This is..."

"My god, the wave is gone!!!" When people opened their eyes and saw this unbelievable sight, their faces were filled with shock.

The huge wave was so terrifying! But surprisingly, a sudden Rainstorm and the wave summoned by that Gyarados actually directly neutralized the huge wave?!

In the next instant, an immense joy surged from their hearts, and the people on the ship erupted into cheers.

They had survived!!

Yet, some observant individuals noticed that things weren't so simple. Someone leaned out for a closer look and gasped sharply, discovering layers of frost clinging to the bottom of the ship... No, it wasn't just the ship—almost the entire surrounding sea surface was now coated in a layer of frost. At this moment, it looked... crystal-clear and incredibly mystical.

"Lucario."

"Ninetales."

"Are you both alright?"

Fujiki and Albus looked at the exhausted Lucario and Ninetales with concern.

Completely neutralizing such a huge wave... was no easy feat. Even though they had directly destroyed it, the aftermath was still deadly. Not even the power of Blizzard could completely calm the shockwaves. If it weren't for Albus's Lucario and Fujiki's Ninetales using "Psychic" at the crucial moment to envelop the entire ship, forcefully stabilizing it against the shockwaves, the passengers wouldn't have been able to survive just by clinging onto something.

"I wonder how Castform and Gyarados are holding up!!"

Albus spoke.

Gyarados was an inherently powerful marine creature, while Castform itself had mastery over the power of flight.

But after enduring such an intense aftermath, their conditions still deeply worried Terrance and Albus.

No one knew how much time passed, but as the sea finally calmed completely, everyone gradually calmed down, and Gyarados's figure slowly emerged from the water.

Looking at Gyarados's ferocious and intimidating expression, not a single person on the ship felt any fear. Instead, they were so overwhelmed with emotion that they were at a loss for words.

If possible, they wished they could jump onto Gyarados's head and plant a kiss on it.

"Hero!"

Someone shouted, and the crowd began to gather in the direction where Gyarados was swimming over, eager to get a closer look at the Pokémon that had saved them.

Albus was caught in a dilemma. Should he recall Gyarados? Or... should he recall Gyarados? Judging by the way things were going, if he openly admitted to being Gyarados's Trainer, things would definitely get out of hand.

But in the end, this kind of thing would inevitably be discovered. At the very least, some people had already realized that Albus was the one who had shouted earlier, telling everyone to hold on tight.

Gyarados swam over and stopped beside the ship, its expression unchanged as it gazed at the surrounding crowd. Finally, its eyes locked onto one person, and it let out a deep roar.

Following Gyarados's gaze, the crowd turned to see Albus, who now wore an awkward expression.

Clearing his throat, he said, "You did great. Thank you for your hard work, Gyarados." Then, he took out a Poké Ball and recalled Gyarados.

"This..." The crew and passengers on the ship were completely stunned.

There were actually a few Trainers among the passengers, but even though some of them had Water-type Pokémon, none of them had even considered resisting that huge wave.

The difference in power was simply too vast to even think about!

But as if blessed by the goddess of luck, just as they were about to step through death's door, a Trainer and his Gyarados had stepped forward and saved them from the catastrophe. How could they not be overwhelmed with emotion?

Staring at Albus's youthful face, many people were initially at a loss for words. It was the ship's captain who was the first to push his way through the crowd and speak up.

"You've done us a great service."

Meanwhile, Terrance had also been waiting for Castform to return. When the visibly exhausted little guy finally flew back, Terrance looked at it with a heartache, knowing how much effort it had put in as well.

However, the real credit still went to Albus and Fujiki's Ninetales. Ensuring the safety of everyone on board wasn't just about stopping the huge wave—it was about neutralizing the devastating aftermath.

Shattering the huge wave itself? That was something Terrance could have managed too, if he had his Altaria undergo Mega Evolution. But that alone wouldn't have been enough to prevent the aftermath of such a massive force colliding.

Castform and Gyarados, Lucario and Ninetales—only by working together were they able to minimize the damage as much as possible.

"There's really no need to thank me..."

At this moment, Albus was surrounded by people expressing their gratitude, looking rather helpless. Gyarados was far too eye-catching—much more so than the tiny Castform. The crowd had only noticed Gyarados charging through the massive wave, completely overlooking the crucial role that Castform had played in the process.

"Oh well, if you all insist on thanking someone, then I, Fallarbor Town's Terrance, will humbly accept it." Albus declared righteously.

Bang.

Terrance nearly tripped over himself. Why did Albus always throw both the good and the bad onto him?!

"Hey, (????)?? Hi!"

Surrounded by the crowd, Albus suddenly spotted Terrance looking at him with an innocent expression through a gap between people. His face lit up with excitement.

Seeing this, Terrance's mouth twitched. He had a bad feeling about this.

Sure enough, in the next moment, Albus grabbed him forcefully and dragged him into the crowd. "Speaking of which, we really have him to thank for this!"

Albus seemed to have found the perfect way to escape—shifting all the credit onto Terrance while trying to slip away himself. But in the end, he was yanked right back by Terrance.

"It's not like we did something wrong. Why are you running?"

Terrance raised an eyebrow.

On the deck, Fujiki stood quietly. Her long hair, once neatly tied, had been blown loose by the sea breeze. Strands of black hair fluttered in the wind. Yet, as she watched Terrance and Albus bickering in the distance, an almost imperceptible smile formed on her delicate face.

These two...

Although neither Terrance nor Albus made a big deal out of it, everyone else insisted on calling them the heroes who saved the entire ship. However, no matter how many words of gratitude the crew and passengers had to offer, it was simply impossible for Terrance and Albus to listen to each and every one of them.

In the end, it was the captain who, after seeing that the gratitude had gone on long enough, finally took note of their predicament. He quickly issued orders for a full inspection of the ship and organized the people who had just survived the ordeal, whose emotions had not yet calmed down.

Only then did Terrance and Albus finally get some peace and quiet.
